0:00 Introduction and Rule or Ruin
Was that man Italian, the guy who's shoving you around?
He had an accent of salt.
He was, there was a man man handling.
Yeah, he was, he was reinventing me out.
It
doesn't, but it does look like it says the
word "bom-poo".
(laughing)
George Russell Scott, three molds on his left
chin, molds for.
And if you keep talking, you'll hear it.
(laughing)
I'll say the best with next door.
Please.
(laughing) (upbeat music)
Hello and welcome back to the 40th Cream
Podcast, beside me, Edwin, myself Edwin,
and then Benjamin over there behind the
camera, but we're not doing a retake on that.
It's been a long day, but you did just
introduce yourself as Edwin.
Did I?
No retakes on that.
No retakes on that.
And over down there in the TVL seat.
Is Edwin.
(laughing)
Okay, well just for clarity,
I am Will, that's me.
But Ben behind the camera also,
can we just get there?
Yeah, Ben, why are you sitting on the floor
next to a pile of toilet rolls?
I don't know.
Okay.
The chair that I only sit on is over there in
that room and far, the chair was here.
Okay.
What I had to do was bleen it back a little bit.
Today may be a bit of a delirious podcast,
so bear with us on it.
But at the beginning of every Cars Rule
Everything Around Me podcast,
we answer the question, do cars rule or ruin
everything around us?
William.
Sorry, Edwin.
Oh, sorry.
I'm gonna say rule.
Okay.
Yeah.
Partly because I drove the Clio,
I had to drive the Clio last week.
It was the last thing I wanted to rely on.
Your favorite car?
The Range Rover.
We needed a service of some sort and it
needed something, there was a,
just a few other bits.
I just needed it done so I could use it for
good word and whatever else.
But that went away for like two or three days.
Going up the hill, going up the hill.
Going up the hill, yeah, yeah,
the rally bit though.
And the Mégane obviously currently has not many breaks.
Also, I just hold my Mégane seats to Alex,
which means it has no seats in it either.
So that car's not usable, but I had to look
to the Clio.
The only road, the only like usable car I was
like, this is the most driving it will do
since I did everything.
That's fine.
Yeah, that's fine.
It did about 200 miles, three,
four days of driving.
No issue, I mean, it's not perfect,
but like it was just,
Hey, it's just ran.
It's a project car.
No overheating, no some rattles and noises,
but it just worked.
And it wasn't careful driving,
it was driving driving.
We were driving driving.
Oh, we were driving driving?
Oh yeah.
Yeah, and then I ran into his back,
so that's all good.
So yeah, I'm overall rule.
Benjamin, we're back in rule for me.
Oh, yeah.
One of the last, the last thing the creamers
would have heard was the saga of your gearbox.
Gearbox, yeah.
Gearbox on the Clio.
Get in the car back this week.
Lovely.
Apparently.
Well, it has a belt.
Allegedly.
Allegedly.
I know it is being done.
It should be done.
He's a drive shaft.
That was what the big clicking noise was.
Gearbox.
Hey, listen, we'll need one.
Okay.
At some point, but not necessarily.
But tomorrow.
Perhaps like your defazer that you put off
for a year.
Yeah.
Now it's time for the gearbox.
Sure, sure, sure, sure.
Hopefully we'll see what it's like.
And then drive fast in.
That's arrived apparently today at my house,
so right down there.
Get it fitted up and we're so back.
And luckily, X5 bushes, they're all done.
They're still screwing.
Oh, they're screwing.
Oh, okay.
Just a little bit.
And they can't earn you tires and stuff.
Oh, okay.
Lovely.
Small bales all the time.
You know what, Ben caught flack earlier
'cause he said he went, "I'm considering
changing the wheels on the X5 to smaller ones
so that I don't have to spend as much on tires."
How did that go, Ben?
Was that rough?
Surprisingly, unabusive, but also
expectingly, be abusive.
But if you do it, you know, the creams are
gonna be happy.
Sure, I looked at it, I couldn't do it.
We all know why you do it, it's more comfortable.
Of course.
It's more economical in terms of buying
cheaper tires and you can buy perhaps better tires.
If you were coming.
Possibly.
They're only upsides.
They're only upsides, but you are trading in
three, one, five riz and 20 inches for peasant wheels.
Yeah, two, five, five.
Oh.
If they're 18s or two, seven,
fives or two, five.
I actually looked at getting this on 20s now,
I looked at it in 19s, the tire size isn't actually any.
It feels like an MTV Pimp My Ride discussion.
Yeah, I'm on the 20s right now,
might go down to the air.
Basically, I looked into it and it
4:08 Goodwood Festival of Speed Invite
would just look worse, but I wouldn't really
get much benefit out of it, so not worth it.
But so overall, your rule.
Sure.
Sure.
Yeah.
Lovely.
Why not?
And you know what, I'm gonna round it up.
It's a rule for me as well.
Three rules.
It's three rules.
Also, just quickly, for the non-visual
watches, we've got burnout on the screen,
and we also do have my shins out.
The long shins of the law are out.
I saw a lot of comments about that when I was
wearing pink shorts, duly noted,
no more pink shorts.
But for me, it is a rule because we got
invited to the Goodwood this weekend.
Goodwood is a few weeks ago for you listening
now, but we were invited to the Festival of
Speed by perhaps the
coolest people we could be invited by,
the WRC.
Crazy.
That's actually crazy.
I thought it was gonna be like a spell it,
it'll be a different type of WRC.
Yeah.
It's like the world really close.
Or just the WC, just the water closet.
Just Goodwood's toilets have invited us,
which would make more sense for us.
But no, because of you guys watching and
listening, we got invited, the WRC went,
"Yeah, you wanna come down?"
And would you like to be a co-driver as in,
would you like to jump in the passenger seat
of one of the world rally cars going around
the rally stage?
And we said, "Absolutely."
And you had a...
Well, it went badly at the start,
but we got invited, and I was excited,
I was buzzing.
And then a message came up with the group
chat saying, "Can we just confirm you guys' heights?"
And the moment I saw it, I went,
"Nah, man, come on."
And so I put it in there, little flex,
six, five.
And then Will put it in six foot for Will,
and then she went, "Yeah, you can only be six
foot one, Max."
Benjamin, how tall are you?
Six foot one.
So I graciously gave up my position to Ben.
And I was, I knew I was going,
I was still happy to go to a good one.
I was still excited, but I was like,
"What's gonna happen?"
We got there.
(laughs) We were just like, "Man,
how are you fine, you can go,
yeah."
Yeah, we've had bigger people in there
before, so it's fine.
And Ben, how did you think it was that snatched?
It was snatched from your grasp.
Sure, in the moment, wasn't actually that
upset, 'cause I was a bit scared.
I was genuinely scared.
I'll admit that now, I was actually scared.
But then, while I was driving home
afterwards, I
was a little bit agree with Andy.
So, we got suited up, we got made,
Will got put in a black racing suit,
just for no reason.
And then, all of us, all the other people got
put in the Hyundai, we were with the Hyundai
WRC team, got put in the Hyundai Rally Suits,
so Will was just early steak looking.
Yeah, just wearing a black suit.
I said to Ben, you looked like the owner of the team.
You were both, genuinely, you were like,
what's that special going on?
I'm ready to drive off the end of an aircraft car.
Exactly.
And so, anyway, Will and I, Rock Paper
Scissors for who went in first.
I won the Rock Paper Scissors,
famously, Ben, what's Will's record for
winning Rock Paper Scissors?
I think it's a loss, is it every time?
It's basically every time.
No, I've got a couple, I've got a couple wins
on them up there.
Edwin's told me before that he actually knows
how to beat every time.
I actually do.
It's not chance, it's a method.
No, because before that, I won two in a row.
I lost at this crucial stage.
Yeah.
So anyway, we'll lost.
I got to go in with a very talented driver,
who is I believe the coach, I forgot his name
now, which is very bad at me,
but he's the co-driver of the WRC winner in the Hyundai.
We got my car, I was, I genuinely,
I feel like I'm pretty happy in cars.
I don't think you can do much to scare me,
I was scared.
Then he slid it sideways into a wall.
He confirmed your fears.
Yeah, yeah.
To be fair, in the moment, in my head,
I was going, we were going much quicker,
we were going like 30, it wasn't that quick.
And it was also, there is footage coming.
I'm fairly sure the moment we hit the wall,
I started laughing, which is not a good fight
or flight response, which is something
dangerous happens when I go,
"Oh, cool."
But anyway.
I'm bad to die.
Because of that, it was good.
And a jump.
And a jump.
A rally jump.
A big old jump.
Also, yeah, a little bit sideways coming off
the jump, that was quite scary.
We also got incredibly dusty getting to the rally.
Ben wasn't happy.
Ben was it, Ben going up the hill in the
tractor, he was angry by the end.
No shade on good with themselves,
but I'm sure it's a better system.
I was saying ski lift, 'cause I get,
it's not always that dry.
Ski lift's quite difficult to build.
But sitting in a tractor trailer with the
tractor, like kicking dostle of myself.
And I got that, we got that at what,
seven or 13 in the morning.
So about eight o'clock, I was kind of dirt.
And I was like, this is just not,
it's just sad.
Goodwards of state is massive.
And most of the actual festival speed by the
hill climb is all very, you can walk around
that all day.
You don't need to travel anywhere,
you just need some feet or wheels.
Either.
But to get to the rally stage,
which is sort of near the race course,
it would be like a 45 minute walk,
I think.
It would be a big walk.
And it's all uphill and through woods and you get lost.
So they do a tractor.
But you feel like, you feel like Pink's going
to slaughter.
Yeah, he's in a trailer.
You're not all just standing on the side step
on a tractor, no it's this.
40 people, be careful on me.
Thing is, I'm not a snob about it.
I don't mind being a backup tractor,
that's fine.
It is the fact that, because I spend my whole
week here--
Those are my new cows, be like.
Yeah, I spend my whole week here in this,
when you can't see the whole of it.
Our unit is a workshop, it's quite dirty.
So we're always wearing dirty clothes.
I thought it's not a weekend.
No, but no.
Best for speed, I'll wear some normal clothes.
In 20 minutes, I was like, "How's hair?"
Ben, I don't know what you're talking about.
I wear my finest clothes.
Yeah, nice shins.
And I look great.
I was picking dust out of every crevice.
Ooh, hey highlights?
Yeah, like my nose, I blew my nose and just
brown came out.
Tough, that wasn't nice.
So, yeah, that wasn't the best.
But worth it, so we waited around.
So, would you like to tell your part of the story?
My what part of my story?
Of the rally.
I didn't go.
So, you were supposed to go out after me.
Yeah.
So, firstly, firstly, the way it was gonna
work is that you literally jump out,
passenger jumps out, next person jumps in,
they go straight back into the line,
you go out.
Because the crash, we had to pull in,
they had to tape up the car.
So, it was a bit of time.
And we still don't know what happened.
Yeah, just didn't get, just didn't fit.
Was it an Italian man?
Was that man Italian, the guy who was shoving you around?
He had an accent of salt.
He was, there was a man man handling you,
he was, he was, he was also,
he was like, "Watching someone solve a maths problem."
He kept pulling you out, like physically
pulling you out and then shoving you in from
a different angle, like forcing your head in first place.
I was fully aware, I was like,
"Why are you shoving me in?"
Like, if anything happens, I'm not getting out.
Like, if there's a ball of fire in this car,
I'm simply not going to be able to get out.
I'm just going to die.
You know those test things where you have to
get out of the car within four seconds.
You crash and you go, "Well,
I bet I hope the roof rips ripped open.
I'm coming out of the sun roof."
In your defense, it's a small car.
It was a very small thing.
I was bent up like a pretzel.
And what about when I went in the car as well?
He really threw you around in there.
He was chucking me around like no one's business.
The thing is, it was your helmet.
I don't think so, it was my helmet because it
was just very small.
No, I was watching that as far as...
Because Edwin was behind like 20 years away
and I was next to Will filming for whatever
we were doing.
It was, you got in, and then it was the
little clip that your neck brace attaches to,
you got caught on the side of the door,
then you got...
Yeah, you went ape shit at me.
He did.
He was like, "Yeah, it's fine."
And I'm like, "I heard a noise,
so I backed out."
And he went, "Yeah, it's fine."
You went ape shit.
Cool.
Anyway.
It was a great experience and thanks to WRC.
Yeah, it was.
And also the track to road was worth it for a
good one, 'cause it's just a cool event.
But so, because Will wasn't gonna
11:22 Speedhunters Shutdown and Car Culture Impact
go, we missed our slot, so we waited around
to see if we could get Ben in there.
'Cause we wanted to send Ben down.
Ben was on the road.
The moment I went out, I got out,
'cause Will was next, I started telling Ben everything.
I was like, Ben, Ben, you would agree,
it's pretty hard to scare me in a car.
And I got out and I was like,
Ben, it was crazy.
I was, we were jumping, we crashed,
we were sliding, we were bumping all over the
place, and then we can go in,
and then they went, so does Ben wanna go in?
And I saw Ben's face turn white,
just immediately realizing that all of the
jokiness of how Will's gonna have to do it.
The thing is, I'm, I actually,
when I'm in the car, I'm fine.
I don't often find myself genuinely scared in
the car, I just trust the person,
'cause I've never been with someone you can't
drive, but it's the anticipation,
I can't hang this person, and I was,
I was in, I don't think it was a station.
See, I'm the same, but it was scary,
but there was a lot of build up.
Also, you'd had it, you'd gone in today
thinking it might happen.
Yeah, it was taken away, so you thought,
okay, cool, I'm good.
And then it came back that you might go in,
so.
I didn't eat.
You know what, next time we'll get in.
It's an E.
Next time you go in, it's cold.
I'll tell you why you didn't eat.
A little bit.
Crazy.
I was a little scared.
So I guess it's a rule.
You may have thrown out.
I wouldn't have thrown out, it was more like,
I just can't, I couldn't, I couldn't,
I couldn't eat.
Ugh, I thought anxious.
So yeah, for me, it is a rule because of that.
And also for the visual watchers,
just down here, there is a contraption looking thing.
And that is a custom turbo manifold to fit to
the TBR Camara behind us, which is gonna be very cool.
If handle when it ever works,
'cause the dashboard is, it's an empty shell
of a TBR in it.
It's wires everywhere.
It's really tough to look at,
but I'm quite scared.
But other than that, Rule, Rule.
Three Rules.
Three Rules.
Huge.
Tentative.
They're not our best.
They're not our strongest rules.
No, they're just okay.
But a Rules of Rule.
But also, as always, leave your rules and
your rules down in the comments.
Let everyone know how you're doing this week.
Shall we get onto news and anecdotes?
There's not many news, so let them know.
No, I'm gonna spray the news in amongst the anecdotes.
Okay, crazy.
Now, one thing we've missed out talking about
this for the last two weeks,
but our burner phone.
Yes.
We keep forgetting about it,
so I wanna get it out of the way.
Yeah.
So we did a video on the TDC YouTube channel recently.
We kind of cooked up on the podcast,
the idea.
Genuinely.
We said, shall we buy a car without using the internet?
And then we randomly thought,
like, weeks later, we just do that.
Let's do it.
So we did that, and we ended up buying a 205
GTI for a very good price, which eventually
died at the end of the video,
and we are gonna fix.
It's a proper rally car, very,
very cool.
But during that video, we obviously,
we had no internet, so we figured we need to
buy our phone.
So we bought a burner phone,
a little flip phone from Sainsbury's,
it was like 20 quid, put a sim in it,
and some credit, and that's all we had.
We didn't touch our phones that night.
It was genuinely all off the grid,
which made it quite a difficult action.
The
way I unfolded it was very difficult.
The way I unfolded was genuinely great.
We said afterwards it almost felt fake.
It was that good of a story.
It felt dire.
We were like, we're gonna fail this because
there is no car with an MIT.
And just 'cause we happened to go and look at
that other voxel, you went, "Yeah,
you can have that."
It was the way it just went.
That's not 10 grand.
And then even then, we were like,
okay, yeah, but it's like eight.
And then we got it down to like six and a
half without all the spare bits.
But yeah, it seemed too good to be true,
but it is.
Well, though, that car is sat in a puddle of
oil in the car.
But anyway, we got this bar and a phone,
which had a phone number and we were leaving
notes on cars, which actually,
I don't think we heard back from anyone.
So, but we left the phone number on screen.
Which we thought was funny and we did it deliberately.
It's on screen for like four seconds.
Yeah.
It wasn't like an accidental little show.
Yeah.
But yeah.
Yeah.
Some people thought it was like my phone
number because I was writing it.
It's not my phone number.
Very, very sorry.
Also, God, I'm pleased because some of the
messages that came through a wild,
but we've got thousands of interactions on
that mobile phone.
I believe the final tally is 130 plus miss
calls and then the messages was around about
100, just a voicemails on voicemails.
Yeah.
There's a man voicemail who sent them out 37
voicemails asking to buy Cadillac.
Yes, we've got lots of, some funny,
some not so funny.
But yeah, we still have to burn a phone.
Maybe we'll pull it out.
There was one that was quite funny that was high.
It's Barry.
Can I have my sunglasses back?
No, no, good stuff.
I like that.
That's good.
It actually is Barry.
He's like, no, I'm serious because I actually have one.
No, Barry, but that's it.
That's the burn a phone.
It may make a return.
We just use it to phone Vauxhall.
Also, just so you know, because I think
you're probably looking for it now and
someone's already tried it.
It's now out of credit.
Plan has been canceled.
You can't call it anymore.
And that's genuinely true.
We had a conversation before this exact
podcast where we said we were upset because
it now shows that we have voice bells.
We can't access the voice bells 'cause we
can't call anyone.
So don't bother.
And we've got like six photos on it,
which you can only ever have six at a time.
Also, they have to delete them.
When you look at them on the phone,
they look how you'd imagine a flip phone
since he does.
But we transferred some of them off the phone
onto a computer.
And they're great.
They are like a 2010s digital camera.
It's in like a small, like a budget.
But not like you can see what's going on.
You can read the number plate,
you know, you know, what's what,
it's no blur.
Next up, we've got the Speedhunters Dead.
Yes, we have to shut bed in Detroit.
No, unfortunately, Speedhunters,
which was for a very long time,
my favorite car related thing on Earth.
It before Carthrel genuinely before Carthrel,
before I ever knew about it.
What is this mythical site?
So Speedhunters was it was, well,
in the end, it was owned by EA by Electronic Arts.
And it was basically there to document car
culture all across the
17:03 Breaktapping Rant and Road Etiquette
world.
So they would send photographers,
very talented car photographers to go and
cover someone's build in Sweden,
in Antarctica, in all over the world.
And then they had, just an ugly,
just a snowboard bill.
And then they would have, they would
sometimes have builds, they would have all
sorts of stuff, but it was a very like
aesthetic, nice, it wasn't just car photos,
they were done nicely.
So this is their website.
And I'm not joking you from probably the age
of 12 or 13, till when I was maybe 20 or 21,
it was the first thing I would do in the morning.
The first, I would wake up and I'll type in
speedhunters.com and I'd read the new
articles and stuff.
It was like a magazine, but online.
And unfortunately, as you see here,
the 8th of April 2025 is the last time they
have posted on the website.
And it appears that EA has shut down
speedhunters and it's gone, confirmed dead,
not confirmed, not confirmed shut,
they've been destroyed.
But if you click on their store,
it goes to a dead link, if you look on their
Instagram, their photo is blacked out,
there's nothing on there, and no one's been
posting on it.
No, surely that's a brand worth saving.
Oh, absolutely.
But like, the best thing is the archive.
So like, you can go for basically any car,
perhaps give me a car right now.
What would you like?
Vauxhall Omega.
Sure, I don't know if we're gonna get
anything for that.
But you never know, it's speedhunters.
So there would probably be something,
well, I wonder if the site's even working.
We've got, no, we've got--
It's just Google.
That's a Carlton, Opel Omega.
Wait, what is this?
This is the site.
But that says, it looks like Google.
Here we go, a gap bill.
So a gap bill, gap bill used to do great
coverage of gap bill, which is all of the crazy stuff.
No, it's not, not strictly an Omega,
is it?
No, Ben, but--
But it's really, it's featured in this article.
He'll be featured in this article.
He'll be somewhere in there,
if I search Omega also people listening right
now, please.
Omega.
Omega, there you go.
And Omega Wagon, there he goes.
There he goes, there we go.
There he is.
With a, oh, with a Carlton engine.
Oh, that's quite cool.
But so yeah, so speed hunters are very sad.
If it's not buying, please don't,
please let it be.
Please get it on the old life support,
because it's called brand.
Cool brand.
Also, that'll be where you, if on Need for
Speed games, you'd have seen like the--
Speed hunters logo, yeah.
Also some very well-known photographers,
not got their start, but were just as
well-known because of people writing in the
car world that you will have seen that have
done stuff on speed hunt.
Yeah.
It's like a gelop neck type.
Exactly, yeah.
Yeah.
Sad.
What do we have next?
We've got Benjamin, you here,
have put breaktappers.
Are you adding another group to our list?
No, they're not even worthy of it.
Oh, okay.
People, why are we breaktapping?
Now, are you talking, you run the motorway
and they're just breaking forever?
Right, so this is what happened in the
morning coming to work.
I was finding it, I just want to have an
open, honest conversation to understand the mentality.
Right, of course.
It's people who drive too close.
So imagine, there is a, there's congestion,
right?
Everyone's trying to get past each other,
but they're in the outside lane just trying to overtake.
Yeah, a line of 400 people.
Yes, and there's one person at the front,
going seven miles an hour, whatever,
fights way too slow.
Yeah, if I'm out of it.
Yeah, exactly, that's crazy,
it's dangerous.
Yeah, exactly.
So basically, you're behind them and you try
to keep a safe distance, right?
And what that means is that when the traffic
slows off, you lift off your accelerator and
you just carry on rolling and no one happens.
There's always one person in front of you who
likes to go, they see the cuts of the traffic
slow and they slam on the brakes.
Just tap the brake and you've got to tap the brake.
The person behind you got to tap the brake
and I was, and there was someone in front of
me doing it the whole way.
I was getting I was getting quite riled up.
Not at them.
I was getting, I found myself really,
if I find it really quite difficult.
Now, have you considered this that perhaps
they are to you what you are to doctors?
They don't like X5s for some reason.
They're just trying to keep you.
They're just saying stay back.
I can see where the car, I can hear all these
smell the comments coming in being like,
well I've got to taste certain medicine,
isn't it?
Well, guess what everyone?
Doctor.
I've got two things to add.
Go on.
I've got two things.
One, you just thought I've just remembered
I've had many times in the car.
No cars that are like autonomous or they've
got radar crews and it breaks for you.
Did a brake lights come on?
Yeah.
They must do.
They do?
Yeah.
They must do.
Because of course, you're just wearing them.
That's what I'm saying is, do they come up?
Because sometimes when I'm behind a newer
car, I'm like, is it the car doing it?
Or is it the useless piece of meat behind the wheel?
Yeah.
But possibly is that.
But the thing is, as well, you may say,
if that's happening, maybe I'm too close.
But what happens is-- Yes, they do.
They do.
Is that I'm a decent distance away.
And if that person in front of just lifts off
and we just gently both-- I would then see
they lifted off and slowed.
And I would have then also done the same.
We both just roll gently and slowed off,
right?
If you suddenly brake, I'm obviously going to quick it.
I got a then break again.
The person who's got a break.
And then you-- And then, trav--
moves again.
And they accelerate away again.
Gets traffic instead.
I was finding it.
And it's when people are behind someone.
And they just tap it occasionally.
It gets with corn.
Tap the break.
Tap the break.
Do you know what it is, though,
Ben?
It is the old average.
There will always be a circus full of clowns somewhere.
It's just people who are-- they come drive.
I feel you're going to say it's the break tap
that you grew up with.
My second point is have you ever been behind
someone who appears to be holding the brakes
all the time?
Yeah.
Now that I always wonder, I'm always confused.
Is the car broken?
Or are they?
Because you could very lightly tap the brake.
And just enough to-- It would slow you down a
little bit maybe, but you wouldn't actually know.
Are they just resting their foot on a brake?
Because there's been so many people--
and because a brake light's a brake light.
You know what a brake light is.
Brakes on fire is a good part.
Because that wouldn't be on other ways.
And you can see that they're brighter.
I've been behind people.
This is rare.
But it's happened at the time.
Shiny version.
It's a super shiny-- holograph.
I'm in like 100.
Yeah.
But I'll just drive behind someone.
And there's just a brake light all the time.
Go around the corner, come to a stop,
brake light's still on.
They're just going like-- If I always hold the brake.
Yeah.
Can't crash.
It's safe.
Turn the car off, get out, brake light's still on.
But I don't know.
Is there something wrong with your car?
Or are you just something wrong with you?
Maybe it's an accelerator light.
The one you know.
It's green.
But I don't understand.
Let's all just have an anticipation.
Just let's all chill.
Well, we've got to be erratically breaking.
Let's just-- it's A in the morning.
What were you rushing for?
Ben, Ben, do a good motivational speech.
Come on, guys.
What the cream fuck us.
It's a new positive driving experience.
I don't.
I would have their tires blown out.
You probably would do fair.
Anyway, people that have stopped with
restrictions moving on to another.
Now, this is my rant of the week.
I hate everyone.
I hate the ball.
All of them.
Now, near here, there is a very tight road.
It's the wiggy bit.
It's where we jump the Cadillac.
Sorry, it's where we drove the Cadillac safely.
The beginning of that road, there is space
for two cars.
There's space for two vans to get through.
However, I am
usually trailering something.
I'm the designated trailer
man.
Why do these little fools, bastards?
Why do they just stop and make it my issue?
Why is it that they go, no, I'm not doing this.
You're going to go around me.
I have a trailer.
I have 700 foot of car behind me that I now
have to get around and merge up and around you.
You are a car.
Just drive through the gap.
Also, most of the time, they're already through it.
Yeah.
You're already in the gap.
All you've got to do is drive straight.
Just go.
Just go.
If you are that unaware of the size of your
car, give up.
Get out.
Take the keys.
No, no, get out.
Leave the keys in it.
Yeah.
Someone else.
Someone else more deserving will use it.
Someone else will take care.
I don't know why it rolls me up so much,
but they just stop.
They go, nah, nah, not for me.
Yeah, I can't be done.
No, it's simply not possible.
No, but what if the situation can't be fixed?
That's one thing.
What do they think once I go past,
do they go?
It's a miracle.
It's like someone chips a ball and pull.
They just think the cars just flip.
Just don't flip over them.
Just drive away.
It annoys me.
I've heard this before.
Some people think that the actual genuine
issue with people driving, who aren't good at
driving, is the actual lack of knowledge of
how big their car is.
Yeah, absolutely.
Because realistically, in a car,
right?
It's kind of like a hit and a wall,
but you know, relative to where you are
looking at what part of your car is,
from your perspective, going to overlap
against what is...
Yeah.
Also, I think I have much more slack for a
younger driver.
Young, I remember my...
Never really slack for me.
But you're not, you've been on the road.
Like, we're talking five years now.
I'm talking like, if I see a younger driver
in a in a Connor box, fair enough.
When I was in my golf, I remember seeing with
restrictions and being like,
I can't do that.
That's not possible.
But as you go, you learn, but I'm talking
about, I'm seeing people in their middle to late ages.
You should know by now.
You've been driving along how this car works.
You should not be thinking you're driving a
Cadillac around.
It's fine.
It's what always baffles me.
or even like taxi drivers.
Anyone who's been driving, some of these
people have been driving 30,
40, 50 years.
If you haven't grasped it at this stage,
how do you eat?
You make it in for years, just throwing food
down yourself.
Someone walks the walls a bit of corridor and
they just stop and go, whoa,
whoa, whoa, Ben didn't go right.
I know there's something I've got to do here.
It's something like one foot.
Look, it's tough.
You know, I'm just going to stop and wait for
someone else to do it.
Look at the standard doorway.
I just don't see how I'm getting through it.
There's no way.
I just don't know.
Absolutely no way.
Someone gets through that door.
No, I think they should implement into the driving test.
You have to drive through with the friction
at a certain speed.
You have to take a trailer through the wiggly
road mirror and if you don't,
your car explodes.
It's like speed.
There is a bomb in this car.
Maybe you just fell the test.
No, I think it explodes or like a,
or, or, or, or, or, or, or, yeah,
just explodes.
Or your car falls into a hole.
Or they, or right at the end,
you have to use your personal car.
And if it's a fail, as you drive into the
driving center, like strip your car.
You're just out for tires.
Straight away, test stop.
You can't go out on the road.
No, you're, you're, you're stupid.
You're done.
We don't know what help though.
If you had like a little bit of restriction
in a test that just said, listen.
Yeah, no, I agree.
Go for this.
But we'll see what we have.
But the speeds build up.
You have to do it at like every time you pass.
What's the TV show?
A hole in the wall.
Now, now I'm going to put some,
some people may remember this.
I think we may have talked about this early podcast.
World's, world's worst driver.
World's, it's the Canadian show.
Cano Canada's worst driver that if you would
like to watch, to be angry at someone and to
get catharsis through seeing bad drivers
failing and being reprimanded for it,
go and watch it.
Basically, every episode is on YouTube.
It is a show that they put on in Canada.
You, you could nominate people.
So you could nominate Ben and say he's
blocking doctors, whatever, on the most like,
they, they'd, they'd, they'd have an
interview with him.
Really smoothly in the crowd.
They'd have an interview.
Take them out the most way.
Watch what happens.
And go, leave a few comments.
Yeah.
You go, you do realize that was a doctor.
And so, and then you'd, you'd get,
you'd become one of the people on the show.
Maybe there's like 10 a season or something.
And they would put, you do like advanced
driving test stuff.
So that would be a problem.
People driving through it through stations.
Let me put them, I remember this in a 300 ZX.
I made them drive through like,
styrofoam, things that were just as wide as
the car at like a hundred, like a 60 mile an hour.
And they would just mash them up because they
would, but they were trying to teach them
through entertainment.
And it went on for many seasons,
but it's really good.
New Top Gear did it.
It was like a celebrity guest thing.
This is like post big three era.
I can't remember which, who was presenting it
at this time.
But they had a challenge where they put
celebrity in a car and they would have to
drive as fast as physically.
I think it was JAG.
It was like a, I remember this.
Oh, I remember this.
Yeah, through the bollards.
They had to go through these bollards.
And they looked like solid metal,
obviously they weren't, but they were,
I mean, it was enough to like not wing
mirrors off and stuff.
But it's amazing.
Like the amount of times you could do people
just fly through it like 80 or something and
it would unmark.
So bad as I thought.
The worst thing with the cameras,
worst driver thing is at the beginning of
every season, they would have a new nice car,
like a Camaro V8 or a Mustang or something.
And they would use it for lots of the tests
that would include like damage.
And so by the end of it, you had a car that was mashed.
But I'll show you, here is a,
Will, what's on screen over there?
That's just a green Camaro, the man doing a
thumbnail pose.
Yeah, he's on YouTube days before.
And then that's a little bit later.
That is just a Camaro completely mashed.
Maybe with like Mustangs, challenges,
all that sort of stuff, just gone.
Now, can I pitch a question to you too?
Please, honestly, honestly.
If we set a challenge on a track,
not every will, but I'd say hypothetically we do this.
I challenge on a track where we put bollars
on each side of you, and they'll call it 15
centimeter leeway on each side of the car.
How quickly do you think you could drive
through the bollars without touching the,
honestly?
Not that fast, I think I would end up because
I don't know, maybe since I've been trickling
centimeters.
So it's a total bit, half on each side.
I'm going to say 60.
Imagine a hot subway each side.
60.
60.
Where are the barrier?
Where is it?
It's a bollars straight
out.
400 meters each side, because that's always the thing.
50 centimeters.
No, no, but is it a bollars straight out?
Because sometimes with restrictions,
no, no, no, no, hear me out here.
Where's restrictions are different in the UK sometimes?
Sometimes they get a voice restriction,
where is the curb?
No, there's that one, where there is
possibility that I'll mash a wheel,
not have other.
There's a little clip of the wing mirror,
which is unlikely to be.
So, it's a straight up bollard,
a little cylindrical guy.
How big is the wing mirror?
Your classic bollard.
A wing mirror is probably 15
centimeters.
So realistically, you have a foot on each
side,
because it would be 15 centimeters.
It's got like a wire it
or something.
It's a foot from the edge of the wing mirror,
because obviously they count,
and it's called...
60.
In what car?
I'd have to build up to 60.
What car?
A wire.
No.
I reckon 15 centimeters.
I reckon I do it in the Range Rover.
I'll do it in a PLP 50, I'll be safe.
I'll do it in the key number.
No, but I won't get to you.
What do you recommend?
140.
10.
Okay, it's a fast little guy.
No, I think I've realistically three.
No, I reckon you do more, Matt.
We should set this up.
No, because it would be, you'd get nervous.
I actually think I think you'd probably be,
there's probably a point where the faster you
go, the easier it is.
So like, I actually think 100 plus you're
going, so, no, yeah, I think you'd be,
I think you'd be so, 'cause you just be,
you can't, well, can't speak.
You don't have time to overthink your actions.
Yeah.
That's fair.
You just be going towards the object.
And if you look past it, you just go through it.
We're gonna set this up.
Now, use this clip and cut back to the part
where I go through a styrofoam figure,
120 mile an hour.
I'm going to wipe out the side of my car.
I think people would be more confident.
Should we bring in members of the public?
Well, should we bring back?
Should we do Canada's restaurant?
I would love to do that.
The pull of the talent pool is endless.
Might have to just
exclude Birmingham and Bradford.
Otherwise, it's just going to be
representation from there.
On that note, how quickly could you go
through an elbow delete?
Oh, God.
Like one
hand is.
For people who know that is,
that's where people...
You lock your arms completely straight and
you just put in way too much steering input
while you're usually going through it.
straight and there's no need for steering at all.
How fast could you go through on the phone?
What am I doing on like a business call?
Steering wheel on the knees and you're like
playing a game?
Not very quickly, because I don't go on the phone.
What Ben, what do you think could be the
fastest phone call to be...
If you're doing a lap, but you're also on the
phone, one hand on the phone,
you're driving.
Just like you when you usually do that.
No.
Doctor behind.
What do you think the call would be?
that would make you drive the fastest?
I guess maybe like if you've got to do a lap,
then you have to go and visit an unwell fine
number or something.
So you think it is the tension that would do it?
Of course.
Not if it was just like a relaxing business call.
There's a chap out here on the motorway in a
Land Rover product.
Where are you going?
With sort of an assuming light bar.
Okay, interesting.
On the roof, but not quite the roof,
perhaps like the windscreen.
Perhaps around the windscreen.
Okay.
And he's got a stethoscope wrapped.
He's got his headphones on.
I think bloody people listen to music in a car.
On the phone.
On the actual phone, I think
quite, I reckon not that.
How many seconds slower are you?
It's like we have to hold a phone.
Yeah, you're holding it.
You could do this.
I'm holding it.
I'm pitting my head to my shoulder.
Okay.
I reckon three seconds later.
34:30 Range Rover Rebranding Discussion
But with the amount of steering input from Ben.
Oh, that's fast.
That's not even actually joking.
I'm actually saying.
I can actually rip into 15 minutes.
No, no, but would you not agree?
If you had it to your ear, and then you tried
doing those, the phone's coming loose.
Well, yeah, of course, but I hope from your
car, it wasn't understeering quite like that.
Okay.
So what would you be trying?
I don't know.
If I had to scroll through reels,
though, my perfect car to drive you on the
phone is this.
But is it work?
Because on the phone, like on your phone,
could you send a text?
Obviously, this is on track.
is all theoretical.
What would you be, what if you had to be on your phone?
What would be the thing you would prefer to
be doing most?
This is all.
I'm like, I'm Gen Z, so probably scrolling through reels.
Keep myself like, I can only concentrate if I
had a family guy in the background.
Subway, you'd be using sub minute laptop.
Yeah, straight up.
Also, this is a perfect representation of
what TDC you did is throughout the day.
It is ridiculous hypothetical questions.
Shall we bring it back down to earth?
Bring it back down to earth with a Range Rover.
logo.
And here it is, the front of a boutique shop
for some reason.
But, dumbest thing since January.
So, can you explain for people listening who
haven't seen?
This is a Range Rover, is a product of a Land Rover.
But Range Rover is not actually a--
It's not a brand.
It's not a brand.
You have a Land Rover Range Rover,
that's the thing.
But, on a Land Rover Range Rover,
it will say Land Rover in a few places.
But most of the time, it will say Range Rover
across the front.
It's very recognizable.
But now they've gone, you know what?
I think it will change I think we'll brand it up,
proper.
You know that car that hasn't needed a logo
since the '70s?
This needs a logo.
I think we'll put a logo on it,
and-- So, if we take an R, and we'll put an
upside down R under it.
Oh, I like that.
That's actually nice.
So they are just connected.
Also, I thought this is the first time I saw it.
It doesn't, but it does look like it says the
word "bomb".
Oh, Bob, yeah.
Do you see that?
Or "dod"?
It's very weird.
So, why can I say something?
Oh, no!
Also, someone from
Land Rover's Design Department listening.
Oh, God, no.
Can't believe it.
It does say "boo".
And we're not seavings.
We're
gonna say "boo".
I quite like it.
But I want to know where it's going on the
car, because if it is on Range Rover,
you have, it says in words on the front Range
Rover, around the top of the boot.
It says Range Rover.
If they're replacing that with that,
then it's gonna look weird, 'cause it's not
used to it.
But if it's that little, there's a little
Land Rover badge on the grill,
and on the back, if they're replacing that
with it, I'm gonna hear it.
That's what I think they are gonna do,
because my first thought of this is,
I wonder if it's to distance themselves from
Land Rover, which has the image,
especially in America, of being an unreliable
car that you don't want to be associated with.
I wonder if, 'cause Range Rover is now such a
hot brand, that they're like,
"Oh, it's big luxury."
It's just a Range Rover.
It's not that.
having connected.
If they're just Range Rover,
could you go and ask 300 grand for something special?
For something special, yeah.
Whereas if you've got a disco that's
connected to it, you can't.
But it's like, it's never seemed to be a huge problem.
I was thinking about this in the Jaguar one.
Obviously, there's people that think that the
Jaguar one is actually a good thing.
I can't see that, because I know that brands
have gone through revisions and they change
things slightly, but when you think of the
actual, the biggest brands in the world,
the biggest and the, the ones you recognize
instantly, it's like Ferrari,
for example.
Yeah.
Have they ever changed a logo?
No.
This is the logo.
Well, yes, but no, but nothing,
nothing drastic.
Not in recent times.
You showed like an early one compared to now.
It is minimal.
I think the original one is the crest.
Is the one on the side of the car.
Yeah.
Is the, what do you call it?
The shield.
Yeah.
And obviously they, on some cars,
they just have the ores, which is just
without like the shield on it and whatever else.
And Lamborghini, again, relatively,
there have been some changes,
but it has always been recognized they've never gone.
You know what?
Get rid of the bull.
Yeah.
Let's have just the bull's nose or just a
tail of a bull or just a ribeye steak or
whatever it is.
Even Rolex, Rolex again, there have been
changes, but you could always look at it and
go, I know what that is.
Yeah.
If you look to that, you wouldn't have a clue.
Oh, that's to poo, mate.
Oh, that's to poo.
You know what though?
I did think about this this morning because I
was behind a here, a 2019 here that had the old badge.
Yeah.
And when that KN badge, came out,
I was like, what the hell?
What's going on here?
But I saw an old key about it this morning
and went, that does look old.
But I think it's because they're so recent
that they can still mess around with it.
Something like Ferrari or Land Rover,
it's iconic.
Yeah.
It sounds a bit wanky to say that.
But it is.
But it is.
It is instantly recognizable.
Now, will we have the same conversation in 10
years when we go, that's just a radio logo.
I don't know.
It's the poo logo.
The poo, mate.
I think that's poo.
That's dumb and poo.
And someone's been paying a lot of money to do that.
Yeah.
It's insane.
So, one type R in Impact and then hit Command
T and it comes on that guy around and went,
"Hold on.
Let's just cook
something up."
And then they sent it and goes,
"Oh, that would be 10 million,
hands raise."
And 40 of us came up with this idea.
Equally though, if you asked me to do it,
I would probably never stumble onto it.
Maybe I would, I don't know.
Anything else we've got?
Anything else we've got?
Any other uses?
Yeah.
Oh, the Veilside RX7.
This is good.
Word related.
Yes.
And I was, I was utterly stunned at this.
So the Veilside RX7 we're talking about is
something that Ben, we're speaking gibberish
in front of Ben right now.
Of course.
It's a very famous car from Tokyo Drift.
It's a car driven by Sun Kang or Han,
is the character.
And it became very, very famous.
It's almost unrecognizable as an RX7 because
it's got this Veilside kit on.
But one went through a genuine movie car.
There is, in orange bannies.
A genuine movie car.
I think it was one of two remaining or
something like that.
Yeah.
went through the auctions at Goodwood.
And I couldn't believe that.
I said to you, I think it was at Goodwood and
I said, oh, that's sold.
How much do you think the price was?
Have you heard this?
Do you know?
So the estimate for this was half a million
pounds for a...
What is it?
It is an RX7 with a Veilside kit.
Veilside in the '90s, '80s and '90s was very
well known for doing really big custom
wide-body kits and making them look outrageous.
This one in this, this was a kit that you
could buy you could just buy this kit.
That's a shame.
Wow, I was at L for you.
And painted in this scheme is the hero car
from Tokyo Drift, Fast and Furious.
Don't worry, you'll never watch it.
I will watch it.
We might do it for a little one year.
We might do a street, a watch along,
a live stream where we strap Ben into a thing
that he has to look.
He's like an MK Ultra experience.
I think it's very low pin designs open.
But so this car, Ben, how much did it sell for?
Half mill.
1,000 pounds is what it sold for.
But why?
What's different about half of my body kit?
Yes, no, not much.
I don't understand.
The body kit is the thing.
What's a, why are they taken in RX-7?
Yes, correct, FD.
I would say in RX-7.
The 90s, you know, the RX-7.
The gun that you know of.
The one we had, we were filming with a car
throw, the red one.
What are you talking about?
The one with a body kit, yeah.
Oh, yes, yeah, yeah, sorry.
That's correct.
Sorry, that was the last of most people.
I think the original car is better.
But why have they taken that and they made it
look like a Supra?
It's Mark IV Supra at the front.
Yeah, kind of see what you mean.
Why do it?
To be fair, they did.
There was a dail side Supra that looked a bit
more like it, an anabflug and all that sort of stuff.
But it's a, it's simply a, it was a Japanese
thing to create the most wild body kit
possible to be different than everyone else.
And for Tokyo Drift, they picked up on
Vailside and went, cool, we'll make it.
There was also the NSX in Tokyo Drift.
And that was, that is, I can say,
is horrible.
Because they ruined the back of it,
an NSX.
So all your listeners, you don't know what
this car looks like.
I'll describe it.
It looks, imagine RX seven.
So all of the listeners know what this looks like.
Don't offer it.
Don't offer it.
Don't offer it.
Go on, go on.
Well, I'm loving in person.
Can we get your, your new, new,
new.
Okay.
Right.
So imagine an RX seven, the one,
just the one you imagine is the right one.
Okay.
And then imagine that this one's injected
some McLaren Center into it.
And then imagine that looks really quite bad.
Okay.
And it's an odd, color and there's weird
decals and you're sort of there.
Oh, someone's described a center to you and
then faxed it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And a child has picked up the facts.
Also, the wheels look weird.
Okay.
So how about this, Ben?
So here we have a, again, this is more for
visual learners, but we will explain a first
generation on the NSX.
A lovely, lovely machine.
More importantly than that is the rear of Honda NSX.
Everyone at home, picture the rear of Honda NSX.
Now, this is a Vailside NSX.
So they got rid of the pop-ups and went kind
of like the RX-7, like an angry,
you'd like that.
I love a Hennessy Venom F5.
It does look, yeah, it does have a bit of,
and I don't actually mind it the most,
but here we go.
Here is the rear.
And the thoughts on that?
Oh, that's GTO car.
That is absolutely power.
That's a Ferrari F50, but in GTA.
It is.
It's a Turismo R from Express.
It's basically what it is.
But yeah, it's horrible.
They put basically Ferrari quad lights,
and I think from memory they are Ferrari units.
The outside is hit and miss.
This is a truck, but well over a million
dollars bought an RX-7, which makes it,
I think, well, it obviously makes it the most
expensive one of those.
But it's one of the, one of only two of the,
it's not like a recreation, which there are a few of.
It's genuine movie car, which is why it has value.
So it also says not used for one of the
drifting sequences.
So I've seen that means it's one of the,
I forget what they call them.
People will remember in the comments a show
car, a, there's a stunt one and a whatever
one, a beauty one or whatever.
So interesting, when you set one then.
So yeah, that's-
Also, UK car.
Yeah, UK, UK.
We actually got off to look around the car.
We said, if we could drive it,
we'd happily come and do it,
but we wouldn't have that.
We realised it's a million pound car.
We'll never get near it ever again.
Also, the people that offered it right now.
I'm glad I didn't let those idiots have it.
This is the thing.
It looks like a self like 20 grand.
Or Ben, you put in here, this is more road
related things.
We've got average speed check for emissions.
There is an average speed check for emissions.
What?
Yep.
And basically, if you're not from the UK,
or you, I don't know, you're not from the UK.
Fortunate enough.
We have got speed cameras and we have different types.
There are cameras that you drive past at a
speed and they just, they measure your speed
at that moment.
And then you have average speed checks,
which are zones of many miles,
which have pairs of cameras,
I believe.
Pairs.
(laughs)
Now firstly, before you carry on for people
abroad, the first one that you mentioned.
Yes.
If you go through, if it's a 70 mile an hour
road, you go through at 70, you're fine.
If you go through at more plus or minus a
couple of mile an hour, you will get a ticket.
It will take a photo of your car,
you will get sent it to your home,
your name is attached to your number plate,
et cetera et cetera.
Doesn't your photo go, look at this idiot.
Yeah, look at this.
You're cool.
I'm sorry.
What was I saying?
You were saying it, but then there are
average speed chairs.
Yes, average speed chairs, they're basically,
they're pairs of cameras.
Of course.
And essentially, you go for the first one and
it goes, you're going 75 miles an hour.
Yeah.
And then the next one, you go--
You wouldn't do that.
No, but for this example of speeding.
Oh, of course, because obviously I'm speaking
hypothetically, yeah.
Of course, of course.
Go for 75 miles an hour.
And then the next one, say you then drive,
you can go on.
I'm gonna lift off a little bit,
my chill.
Yeah.
A 65 or a 60.
Yes, the next camera, that camera will then
read your speed then.
Yeah.
The time it takes you to get from one to the other.
Yeah.
And it works out basically.
I don't know how they work.
Well, if they work or how they work.
Well, it's maths.
Yeah, it's just time it was dis-fired by time.
Yeah, but like, are they on?
Because the amount of times I have been in an
average speed check and I see someone,
some walk was blind back.
Sorry.
(all laughing)
That's literally the cut of hair.
It's a tough one.
So it was a tough one too.
No, I don't mind talking about it.
I was on the way to go and get peep hot.
And this is last year, and I was on a journey
all carriageway that I genuinely also hand on
heart didn't know, which is the worst bit.
I was just on a dual carriageway.
I had the Speedo set on the cruise control
set on 70, turns out it was a 50 average speed check.
Which is so I got done for 67 mile an hour
hence, 'cause I was doing 70 on the way there
and 67 on the way back.
The same night.
You hit it on the return.
I hit two, I got two tickets on the same
night going one way there, one way back,
'cause I am a clown.
Nice little encore there.
You know what?
Average speed checks work.
That's good evidence, but I've seen so many
fly through average speed checks.
I don't know.
What do they know?
Well, perhaps I go through the first one at
95 and there's only 20.
I know, it starts next on the go.
The skies go in normal speed.
Some of them are like lorry drivers,
and that's when I start to doubt myself.
Yeah, they know something.
They're doing like 60, amount of times I've
had a lorry up my ass.
Ooh, okay.
Okay, and then what about the speed?
So I was just one for the hour contest.
They've just been a lorry, just right up,
up me.
I mean, like the slow lane, I'm just trying
to cruise along, 'cause I don't care.
I've had the same thing.
And then they're actually like angry at me.
They get aggressive in other speed changes.
Well, I guess 'cause they're trying to
conserve speed for when they go off a hill,
you know, whatever.
But also, so they're the one example of
someone knows something about anything at all.
Yeah, they know something.
But anyway, back to the back to it.
So these cameras, a lot of the time they were
not, you typically won't have one that often
in a 70, in a normal, not always speed area,
it would be just a normal camera
Yeah, if you go past average speed checks,
are typically used for either road works or,
I'm about to talk about which annoys me,
which is emissions.
So there's one that goes between Bristol,
where I live, not Bristol, but you get over
the bridge into Wales, and then when you get
to Newport, which is the first city,
there is a section of road, which feels like
a thousand miles long, which is a 50 mile an
hour average speed check, of course.
And that is because, I believe back in the
day, or at, quite recently, sorry,
until quite recently, quite high emissions
area because of manufacturing and stuff.
And because of that, they're like,
we've got too much in the air,
so we've got now that you go slow,
because your engine is more efficient at 50.
But does that mean, if I buy myself a nice
new Tesla, obviously there are 120 miles an
hour as fast as you like.
You do 50, but in second.
So you're just eight thousand.
It doesn't make sense.
You will get me.
I understand, I understand if it's a road
works, it's safety for the people who work on
their own, and it's to use traffic,
I get all of that.
But for emissions, that makes zero sense.
I had it on, I thought, I want to say,
because it was on the way to Goodwood.
that.
It said, like, you know, you see the red,
it was on the M25 or something.
Oh, yeah.
But part of it, we got past London,
saw past London.
Yeah, I felt just outside London.
Yeah, a big road that goes around it.
And it said, I could see it ahead,
it said like 50, and then it went down to 40.
And then I read it, it said,
for emissions.
I'm like, what
the?
Sorry, I'm what?
Man.
Yeah, again, I know people are going to be
joking about fine.
It's not for emissions, because you might do
one MPG better.
But you're not going too much more.
Yeah, but it's to say it's for the government
to say they tried.
Yeah, but there's a massive factory blooming
out of smoke next to me.
And in my car, but it's easier to go,
hey, we'll just change this border that can
already say something different.
What have you speed up to 120 miles an hour?
You go to the speed check zone and then you
just chuck it in neutral or to the engine off
and just cruise through it.
Staring like comes on.
Ben, go to the government.
I've got ideas, right?
You can go as fast as we want,
internal the speed.
Well, someone we know is a videographer.
I'm not actually going to name him because
the stereo was kind of wild.
It was basically saying that it's for emissions.
So he's like, what we're saying is,
is that if we speed at that time,
it's going to kill someone along the way.
But if you speed, you're going to kill someone anyway.
So you might as well just speed.
So wait, or if you're doing,
if you do 71, might as well do 150.
(laughing) Because if it's about speeding,
then that's what you run it through properly.
(laughing) Emmett to it.
But I would like to pitch the question to any
sort of government creamers,
any high maintenance reasons that know
anything about anything and can answer.
I was honestly, 'cause I have a genuine
question why this exists.
Also, you are allowed anonymity.
You may retain your name.
You can perhaps even have a name from the list.
To pick one.
If you'd like and you'd like to be anonymous,
Johnny Moose, I will pull a name from the list.
Well, no.
If you have your own name, please DM me or--
Don't do that, please.
Or any, well, or--
We will use your government.
We will not use your government.
Just say, this is what I would like to refer to as.
Okay, sure.
Please message Ben.
Or, yeah.
You could.
Or, if you don't want that, I will provide
you a name.
Yes.
If you cannot afford a name,
what will we provide for you?
But you can't reject the name.
No, you have to have that.
Yeah.
Bearing in mind also, if you do,
let us choose a name, it may be a silly one.
Of course.
You know what, I might even pull one up while
we're looking for the next one.
So next up on this list, we've got F1 movie tropes.
So towards the end of this, I have a rant and
it's actually
not related to cars, but in the meantime,
let's talk about the topic at hand.
I went to watch the F1 movie last night.
I was really impressed by it,
actually.
I liked it.
And I thought on my way home,
reviewing the movie in my head,
alone.
I know, yes.
52:22 F1 Movie Review and Cinema Manners
What's we're just gonna say?
Will's great with the F1 movie is that it
wouldn't happen in real life.
No, no, no, no.
But they bring an old guy to come and play.
And all of my worries were put to bed.
Okay.
Well, I want to start.
I apologize.
Please continue.
And I very much enjoyed it.
It was very, very good film.
Very entertaining.
Okay.
And a rating?
A rating?
I wouldn't go past like an eight.
Okay.
I'm gonna go with an eight.
Sure.
That's...
It's pretty good, isn't it?
No, that doesn't matter.
When you consider it's out of 19,
it's not so great.
I watched it, and obviously there are car
movies, and there are very good car movies,
but there are always a trope.
Sure.
Now, even like Ford versus Ferrari,
what is one of my favorites?
It has an element of realism to it,
but there are still horseshit things going on.
Of course.
They're still, I'm racing, but if I go down a
gear, I go faster.
I go faster.
And I realize, I got to the,
again, this is probably like on my way home
after this, I thought, that just didn't
happen in the movie.
Really?
Again, there'll be F1 people out there going,
"Well, I'm actually here, and it's right at
the BRS zone at turn three, but it's
certainly not possible."
I used to have 20 cars now, and actually
George Russell's got three molds on his left
gym, no fault.
Where did we get an actual F1 sports show in the podcast?
That's wild.
But again, there's probably mistakes in it
because it's a movie, but to me,
who is a sort of into F1, but not,
I watched it and thought, "No problems here."
Yeah.
A sight approved.
A sight approved.
Some of the driving is a bit wild,
it's a bit, 'cause again, I think some of
it's like Brad Pitt driving.
They'll be like, it'll cut to like,
Formula One drivers are very smooth and
weird, and there's just a man hacking at the wheel.
The man hacking at the wheel,
but the fastest of the lot, not quite.
Oh, okay.
That's again, that's another one of the
tropes I like.
I thought, I got into the movie and I
thought, this American bit spoilers.
Yeah, it's a little, no, these aren't spoilers,
really.
Okay.
That I thought Brad Pitt's gonna rock up,
97 year old Brad Pitt's gonna rock up,
and win every race and win in the championship.
I was like, if that's the case,
I'm leaving, 'cause that's dumb,
but it wasn't like that.
It was okay.
But I thought, yeah, no car tropes,
no, there was no side by side with Louis
Hamilton, bangs it down again,
accelerates it.
Now, I like the idea, though,
that it's successful enough that it follows
the same arc as the Fast and Furious is.
Well, where the first one is,
it's a little bit bullshit, even,
it's got some actual car stuff.
Where we get F-17, or F-17, perhaps,
and they're going to the moon.
Yeah.
There's one of those just five-style ramps at
the airport, where they're just gonna,
he just flies over the map.
But doing the movie, I had to go to a cinema
project, 'cause I--
That's a crazy--
Some people don't, but I enjoy the cinema.
Oh, sorry, okay.
I enjoy the cinema.
Anyway, this feels like a French oral exam.
Throughout the movie, there were people talking.
Oh, I hate that.
I would like to suggest a solution.
It has death in me.
I agree with that.
I've got a softer version.
So during the movie, there will be cameras in
there, and if you are talking,
either, the seat will sense it,
and then just a time will start to go off.
Oh, okay.
(laughing) (laughing)
30 seconds.
(laughing)
So that's
the lethal version.
Okay, 'cause if someone explodes,
you're
front of me.
(laughing) (laughing)
You go, shh.
(laughing)
I'm less bothered by that, 'cause at least
they won't
talk afterwards.
But how is that a solution?
It's a
small whispering bit.
'Cause these people need to be
around the corner.
A C4 go go go.
How are you paying?
All right, Ben, this ticket was 22 pounds.
Oh, where'd you go?
Per person.
I sat in my seats.
I sat in my seats.
What cinema?
Oh, do you?
Well, that's why.
You went to a fantasy cinema.
Yeah, well why?
I'm not sitting on a wooden seat.
Is that fancy?
I think that's meant to be a license.
I'm not there like three cinemas in the world.
Yeah.
In the world when you say it's fancy.
Oh, you're the only person in the world.
(laughing)
Sorry, I said before we get into it.
But I couldn't, there was just people.
(laughing)
You are the youngest person ever.
(laughing)
I'm sorry, this is a bad point.
You get the meme.
You get it.
Yeah, okay, so let's move on.
But there's just people talking,
and again, someone who might whisper,
like, I have my girlfriend with me,
so every now and then I'd look just to make
sure she doesn't form the sleep.
That's it.
I can deal with that.
Or if there's something in the movies call
and you look at them and go,
it's cool.
I'm cool with that.
But these are conversations happening.
Now, my other solution is that these people
get marked and when they leave the cinema as
a sniper across the street and they get picked up.
Or what if it's because you're on cinema
property when they come out there marked and
you're legally allowed to do,
you may take things from them.
Yes, yes, you're the purge.
Yeah, exactly.
You can inform criminals that they don't know
what they're aware about.
But do you know what?
I've thought about this before in the same time.
There is, there are no more social cues
available to tell you you shouldn't be talking.
The lights are off.
That is a cut from childhood.
A recognizable trope of it's time to stop,
time to be quiet.
We watch things now.
It's silent.
Even the adverts.
There's like a cinema thing that goes,
yo, shut the fuck up.
(laughs) It says like, turn your phone off,
make sure to just shut up.
And then even add some of the adverts go,
yo, be nice, shut your phone off,
shut the fuck up.
Be quiet.
There is one time you're allowed to talk.
No.
And after an advert, you can,
just in between the adverts you can lay over,
you're supposed to go, oh, what's here?
It's rubbish.
In the trailer, in the trailers I'm less cool with.
Let's start rolling, let's get serious.
We're in "Movie Town" now, let's start.
But when the movie, when the lights go down,
dim and dark, or off, as the--
Something like that.
Like, just be quiet.
But now, imagine how much more impactful that
first thing would be, it would be like,
you've come to the movie theater,
please be reminded, your seat's going to
explode if you talk.
I'd be like, I'm willing for a less lethal
version where the seat, again,
that you get a warning countdown goes off.
It just gives away.
It's the floor.
I want to talk about it.
But you have to stay in there for like a day.
But it drops into like a children's playroom,
seeing as that's what you want to do.
Yeah.
But you become gal for a good day.
No.
You need to watch movies, then.
No, it's a day, 'cause then you have to
inconvenience them.
Otherwise, they do it again.
You drop it, it's like a jail cell.
How long have you been in it,
mate?
23 hours.
I've been in it now.
I've been in it since the Godfather in the '70s.
I want to know, this is just not a car podcast anymore.
I want to know, why they can't invent a bag
that doesn't rustle.
'Cause that annoys me more than talking.
But it's not the bag.
Popcorn.
Nice, the bag.
There's some munching going on,
but I can accept that.
If you're picking like, no.
You can't drink popcorn for a straw.
Interesting.
But when they feel movies, right,
spoiler alert for anyone who...
Does never watch the movie.
It helps the movie.
The audio is fake.
So you know when they have a,
they come out from the shops,
paper bag with all the groceries.
That's made of like a material that doesn't
actually make a sound.
Yeah, okay.
Why can't we use that?
I don't care.
I'd have a gambling gun mounted just above the desk.
Because they won't learn.
This is some sort of...
There is no punishment.
There is no punishment.
Enough, because they'll do it again.
They wear a gambling gun.
It doesn't have to be lethal.
They're all shot to the knee.
Or just the first one's a warning shot,
just over the top of the head,
just a...
Or Taser.
Or Taser.
You can see the person in the seat there,
if you go...
This would all be much more disruptive than a
little bit of whisper.
But I'm willing to have that disruption,
because I know that they're being punished anyway.
It's crazy.
Also, such a wild thing to bring off the cover.
No, I did watch F1,
What I really want to talk about is
dismembering people with cinema.
This is my final point on this.
If you're doing it in a bad film,
fair.
But this was, no, there is.
Okay, no, no, there's some of us.
Good film, that's a good taste.
Cars two.
Now, move on.
Do you know what, it's a good film?
Cut us one.
Do you know what's not a good film?
Cars three.
Correct.
Lovely.
Cars two.
Glad we're all on board.
Yeah.
Shrek.
Shrek.
Shrek.
Shrek.
Oh, yeah, we'll move on from that.
But if you eat or make any noise in the
cinema, just know.
What do you do?
Just know that when I come to power,
you're done.
I know, this is such a will thing.
You're gonna see that in the glint as you
come out of the cinema, and that's it.
You're gonna hear a Tom Clancy.
Anyone listening who doesn't know Will in
real life, this is liquid will.
This is how we operate.
It is, I have an opinion and therefore it is
correct and the most intense opinion that I
could physically have.
Can you please remember the one from Goodwood?
It was, I can't remember.
We'll come back to it.
Will does this thing where he never has a
mod, I respect it in a way, but it's always
something completely obscure.
Yeah.
And it's always really aggressive.
So we'll go like, okay, yeah,
I'm not a massive fan of--
Spoons.
Sort of like--
Flip flops.
Smoke salmon.
Flip flops.
Flip flops.
Yeah, yeah, flip flops.
Yeah, yeah, flip flops.
Flip flops.
And we'll all come in there and we'll go flip flops.
I hate flip flops.
Flip flops, you know what?
Anyone who wears flip flops,
I hate them.
Why would you wear a flip flops?
You're an idiot wearing a flip flops,
and you'll go all like that for ages.
Yeah, but I've never seen Will go,
you know what?
I'm a bit impartial.
Yeah, they're okay.
Flip flop people, talking cinemas and tap the
brakes on the motorway.
You know what?
And for that reason, reporting,
you're getting mud dud.
Moving on, this is a kind of,
oh, actually, we've got Brian O'Connor's back.
He's so back.
Speak your movies.
By how?
Yeah, that's what it's interesting.
Now, are they gonna do the same thing they
did before, which was so if you don't know,
Fast and Furious, Benjamin.
I don't know, I don't know.
That's gonna ask a little man.
Okay, you know who it is.
You know who it is.
That's Paul Walker.
Paul Walker, he's called Brian O'Connor.
Or Brian Spillner, which is his fake name in
the first one, spoiler.
He's a federal agent.
Anyway, he unfortunately, in real life,
passed away.
Yeah, I know that.
So, they were filming the movie at the time.
So, what they did was they asked his brother,
who does look a good bit like him,
which I think his name is Kyle,
could be wrong, to step in and they would
then CGI his brother's face.
I've heard this, yeah.
Over his face to complete the movie,
to have it all be done.
'Cause he passed away mid-looking.
I think it was in, or towards the end,
so there weren't that many scenes to go,
but there were things, they had to shoot with him.
Right, okay.
But supposedly, news via Vin Diesel,
Brian O'Connor's back in the next slash last
one, which is the last one, or second last one.
Yeah, I think it is the last one,
right?
Which is...
The last one that came out was the first part
of the last one.
I've seen that.
Right.
Right.
Yeah, Ben has seen that.
I've seen it.
I've seen it.
And it was not very good.
But Vin Diesel, also, you know,
I'm not saying I'm the perfect specimen of a
human, but Vin Diesel, you're looking rough right now.
Vin Diesel?
Yeah, I do believe he has the power of
speech, which is interesting.
Yeah, well, not, I only just.
It's true.
I watched the video.
Ben's too badly.
Ben's gone again.
I watched the video of him announcing it.
It was tough.
It was tough.
It was not a great watch.
No, David, but he has, if you ever like to
be entertained, go and watch Vin Diesel's Instagram.
Perhaps more incoherent than the cream podcast.
Yeah.
He just kind of switches left and right to things.
Well, we'd have him on.
Oh, of course.
Sure, we'd have him on.
But I just want to know how this is going to go down.
Yeah.
And if they go there.
Because also, it was a nice,
like, jokes aside.
It was actually a nice way to end that.
It was really good.
There was no reason to go on for it.
Also, they will see you again.
We can't run, see you again again.
Well, I did say they were a seizure again.
That's true.
Well, I've heard the song.
I've seen him the most recent Fast and Furious.
I want to admit that's the creamers,
but I don't understand what was going on.
That's when he dies, though,
surely Vin Diesel.
That's the idea, right?
I'll see you again.
Vin Diesel is dead.
I'm not Vin Diesel, but the idea is saying,
"See you again."
Die.
Oh.
Anyway.
Oh, are we doing lyric analysis now?
Yeah, anyway.
Okay.
But yeah, he's back.
So back, apparently.
Well, what does he do when that's true to you?
Well, is he, is he, I don't want to spoil it.
We don't know.
We don't know anything.
But in the movie, is he, is he--
No, we just disappear.
He goes off.
I mean, it's like a, it's a one last job.
I've got a family.
I don't want to do this anymore.
Oh.
And after the, after the, the,
at the end, the epilogue, is what you call it?
I don't know.
Anyway, at the end of the movie,
they are driving and they pull up at the lights.
Exactly, yeah.
So it's not implied that he's died.
It's implied that he just, he's moved on in life.
It's implausible he could come back.
Well, it's plausible that also the actor is--
Exactly, the actor's not around.
That's the technical difficulty.
And I haven't seen many movies pull up.
Like a CGI human particularly well.
Isn't Blade Runner, there's a CGI woman in
Blade Runner or something?
No, it's got a lot of stick for it or something.
What, Anna Da Armas?
She's not actually in the movie,
just the old woman.
Oh yeah, there is that, it's an old character,
right?
It's a bit like style.
The original.
Oh, sorry, yes, yes, yes, yes.
But there was a load of people being like,
this looks whack.
Yes, 'cause it's like de-aging stuff.
Yeah.
But listen, I can't respect her though,
'cause you basically chose them to make be
more difficult to produce.
Yeah.
But if it's actually meaningful to the plot,
fine.
Yeah.
But I have a feeling it's not,
it's just gonna be, it's gonna be like a,
you know, what we call it, like a theater
show ends and everyone comes out and claps at
the end of the mail, say hi,
I wonder if it's gonna be like that.
If he pulls up in the skyline.
Crazy, crazy.
No, then I'm there for it.
Is that what he had?
Yeah.
And.
Well, if he could jump over the top of Vin Diesel.
Yeah, sort of like over it.
And then perhaps go, (laughs) like,
you know, sort of access to closing a bridge.
Yeah, he could lift bridges if he wants.
Not with telekinesis, but he has minions.
I remember a bomb rolling down a street or something.
Is that the one you watched?
Very different to the ones we're referencing.
There are some actually, like in the Fast and
Furious world, and again, I haven't watched
many of the recent ones.
They're just some crazy, like the idea that,
so Sunkang, who was Han, who drives that RX-7 dies.
Dead.
Quite, not perfectly.
So you're not gonna watch that.
We're gonna watch you for the one year,
okay?
Okay, we're too late dead.
He's dead.
Well, I don't know what you've done.
He's dead.
But wait, he's dead.
Oh, of course he's dead.
He's coming back.
But who killed him?
Yeah.
Jason Statham killed him.
He's gone.
Jason Statham was driving a Disney 140S class
into the side of him.
And he's playing himself.
Am I correct in saying that Jason Statham's
brother is who?
He's not John Cena.
I think he is John Cena.
Is he John Cena?
That's the one.
This is all spoilers.
Yes, but also, Jason Statham hates the rock,
but they're best friends.
Yes, mate.
Wait, in the movie?
Sure.
Wait, no, wait, he hates him in real life.
Who, what's the...
All of the above.
I wasn't sure it was like an offshoot movie.
Ben, can you, I'm gonna just give you two
couple of quotes from a phosphorous book.
Sure.
Wouldn't you tell me what they might...
I guess.
Sure.
I ain't going back to Barstow.
Barstow.
Lovely.
Okay, cool.
The sports thing.
How about both of these things wired up like
I had never seen before?
I would assume two things had been wired up
in an interesting manner.
Yeah, like he's looking at it and going,
"Okay, that's an interesting way of doing that."
What is it?
What is it?
What is a spoon engine?
I've never heard you say that before.
A spoon engine?
Is it like cutlery based?
There's spoons in the engine.
Is that like some sort of mod?
Yeah, exactly that.
What would happen after someone says,
"You ain't gonna do what I think you're gonna do."
No.
Surely, then you get called like a crazy ass white boy.
Yeah, I would assume you'd just do it.
But you might see a boat that then realise
you're in a car.
But then you do remember there is a boat out
there and then a car.
Also people who are not that enthusiastic.
What are you talking about?
Yeah, welcome to the club guys.
Completely putting anyone off of us.
Have they not made the part two of Fast X?
No, that's what's coming.
They haven't made it yet?
Do you mean that was two years ago?
Do you mean Fast and your seat belts?
That's a great thought.
That's the classic internet meme.
I don't know anything about it.
So yeah, Fast and Furious, we've got to do a
watch through with Benjamin.
We'll see if it's plausible,
but we would like to do for one year of cream.
There's myth busters you're thinking of.
Okay, yeah.
(laughs)
That's conspiracy, isn't it?
Yeah.
We'd like to do a live watch through for the
one year of cream.
Will it happen?
Perhaps.
We'll see if we can make it work.
I've ruined all now, so.
Do we have anything else?
There's a couple extra bits,
which are sort of newsies.
It's a couple of bits, we sort of good words,
the 959.
Yeah.
I think I'm saying correctly,
is the, it's Lanzante who were a race team
who now build some of the coolest stuff on planet Earth.
You bought a t-shirt from them.
Well, I missed out on the ones that I wanted,
which from McLaren F1 based,
if you work at Lanzante A, you don't,
because you're not listening to this ridiculous podcast.
But also, I would love small shirts,
I want to buy things.
But they decided, we are gonna build on
McLaren or something based on McLaren,
that has a seat in the middle again.
Yes, McLaren F1.
It's a three-seater, so that is a 959.
I cannot remember what those numbers mean.
It seems to do with a year.
959 is the year that they won the Le Mans,
and then 559 is the number of the U.A.
in a clinic car, which is about a penis
enlargement, if you didn't know.
Is it actually?
That's what the U.A.
in a clinic did.
Nice.
Yeah.
Nice.
Which is also what a car like this does for you.
Exactly.
But this is based on a 750S,
but it also, I think it looks amazing.
That's a great looking thing.
If Lanzante were doing McLaren's styling,
you wouldn't notice any difference.
No.
If that came out as the latest McLaren,
McLaren, you wouldn't buy an eye,
but anyway, three seats, so you've got one in
the middle, which just looks nuts.
Yep.
Insane.
Very interesting.
Again, Lanzante favorite people,
we'd love to have someone who worked in on
anything developing anything to do with
anything at all on the podcast at some point.
We promised to be on our best behavior and
not mention Gatling guns.
Yeah, no more cinemas, no more games.
And we apologize for that time we came to
your HQ and looked for the window in the rain
in a clear mark one.
In a clear mark one.
That was not great.
And your receptionist, very nice told us that
we probably wouldn't be allowed in.
Completely leave.
Basically, please leave.
But we don't really want you in here,
please leave.
The way the Vailside Honda in a safe is on
the screen and burnout.
After that, we got the McPura.
Oh, of course, the McPurray.
I'm so hungry, man.
Benjamin, tell us about this,
you were the one that told us about this.
Maserati MC20 is a mid-engined Maserati
Supercar, which has been out for a few years,
and I don't like it.
Neither do I.
Will?
I think it looks good, but there's something
about it that.
I think, 'cause it's V6, right?
I think maybe that's it.
Why is it going into a granite shoulder?
If that had 458 and AV8 type thing,
I think I'd be able to--
Even the old Maserati V8.
Yeah.
Like the old like the 4.7 or whatever,
that would be cool.
But so Ben, why is this in the news?
'Cause this is not a new car.
So it's sort of a new car.
There are bits that are different.
It's basically, it's effectively a facelifted
version of this car.
Right, but they've renamed it.
It's now called the MC Pura,
but it's just the McDonald's menu now.
The way they've typed it, and I was just
looking at it now to pull the photo up,
all caps MC P-U-R-A.
So it looks like a Scottish surname.
It's just the McPura.
I actually'm out in McPura, man.
You want two doors and two seats?
I've battered me car.
So yeah, interesting, you know what?
As always, interesting move,
Bazzarotti.
Let's see if it pays off, brackets.
It won't.
Still anti-CEO going absolutely crazy right now.
How could we lose more money?
Yeah, I don't understand why.
I don't really know what's different,
but...
Mc, Mc, Mc, Pure is a cool name to be the Mc20.
A Mc, Pure.
Yeah, it sounds like a new sort of...
It's sort of like a, you know when you look
at like a foreign McDonald's menu.
Yeah.
I've got something that you don't get ahead.
You go, "Ooh, I have that.
What does it mean, Pure?
Let's try that."
Like a tempura prom.
From the Donalds.
We can't come to that, it's just a matter of the...
Yeah, I'm not so keen on that,
it's just a bit of math.
Yeah.
But do we have a forum or any sort of forum?
There are forums, conspiracy.
Here we go, Benjamin's reaching for the phone.
We have a forum.
Lovely.
Do you have one?
It's from C_understore Douglas.
This was from Spotify, I believe,
Mr.
Douglas.
I'm gonna have to do this in a weird way,
because it's very wide for my phone screen.
Forum topic for you guys, rear wiper delete,
yay or nay?
I love my rear wiper, and have never
understood why people delete them.
What's next, wing ridly?
Please help me understand why,
if you guys are in favor, I just don't get it.
I understand where you're coming from.
I understand that it looks more clean.
but the use of it is, the M3 does not have a
rear wiper, it annoys me.
I'm pretty sure they were saying that they're either.
They are in favor of having a wiper.
No, I
agree, that's what I'm saying.
I'm agreeing.
I'm saying I understand where people come
from, 'cause it looks cleaner.
Oh, sorry.
More clean, sorry.
But I prefer the use of
it.
Also, I think it's case by case.
You know, you're a Range Rover,
if you delete the rear wiper,
which is hidden anyway, there's not much point.
Yeah, but I would maintain, I don't think I need it.
You have mirrors.
You need it in the winter, I'd say.
Yeah, I agree.
You get road salt and stuff on there.
What are people doing in vans?
Well, people do that.
Crashing.
(laughs)
You see it in the sleep, correct?
Yeah, you see it in the sleep,
you sprint to ever.
Oh.
I actually have a rear wipertally on my
clear, I didn't do it, it came with it,
thanks Will.
I didn't do it.
You know what?
It looks quite clean.
Also, that is, again, it is the
implementation, as with any modification,
it is the implementation of the modification.
Agreed.
Agreed.
It's the modification you grow up with.
If you have one screen, where?
Oh, Matt, Barry.
If you have a rear
screen, and you put some rubber bang in
there, and it just
sticks out like an sore thumb.
Perhaps, but the 996.
Oh,
like the piece of wood.
Piece of wood.
Not even rubber
bang, just the original bang.
Just the bang.
There are
some that are quite clean, there are some
that are designed to look like,
oh, they are a little piece of glass,
and they match, because sometimes a wiper
goes in the sort of black, tinted bit,
even if you don't have a tint that goes
around the edge of the glass,
and they put a piece in that blends in with that.
If you're just blocking it off with a piece
of cheese, or whatever, you're full.
So my clear has that.
It has a little arch where it would be,
and it has a sort of vinyl piece that goes
over the top of it, and you'd never know.
Well, you would know, but unless you were
looking for it, you would probably never notice.
Sorry we're
keeping up with it.
(both laugh)
Well you just started doing this like I
started talking before.
Thank you for blaming up being,
getting up on.
We'll see how this works.
I'll get a one or two jab of occasionally.
And then you put a giant stick above that
that says, "Real why I put the late mate,
that I'm so much better, 'cause I haven't got
one in big letters."
Yeah, that's ridiculous.
What's the point?
When will front wiper delete happen?
You know what, it's a great point,
wing mirrors.
You know that's an actually thing.
Tommy F.E.A is a YouTuber I used to watch
back in the day, and I remember him at,
I think it was a, it was an S13 or an S14,
it was moss green, nice color,
and he deleted, he deleted the wing mirrors,
'cause it looked clean without them.
And I remember you going, huh?
What?
I mean, that's, yeah, sure, that's a point,
but I was like, yeah, I got rid of my seats,
just thought they looked nice about.
Yeah, I'll suit that delete.
Way cleaner.
Hate that look when you're driving just across you.
Ugh, nasty.
But I get it, but it's, again,
it's the, it's the, it's how you deploy scent
modification is, is how you'll be judged by the gods.
I've seen, is it BMWs, is it like,
the ones or something, the rear wiper delete,
it becomes a button to pop open the,
the glass.
Yeah.
I see, that's cool.
That, you know what, that I can get on board with.
That's cool.
I think the E61's like that.
Something in your old five series,
Ben.
1:16:14 Forum Question - Rear Wiper Debate
Ooh, sorry, caught you in a couple of days.
Sorry, mate.
Boring up.
Boring up.
No, I don't know what you mean.
I said your name when it took possibly three
seconds, you took clock calls.
Can you say replay?
Yeah, I think some cars have,
so it has a function which makes it harder to delete.
I do think, 'cause it's a random,
it's an afterthought piece most of the time.
Yeah.
There's never design to Real Wiper,
so you could have the most beautifully
designed rear end.
Thank you.
(laughs)
But then someone goes, wipe a blade's gun,
big piece of plastic.
Okay, so did you put our wife blade on?
No.
And also, I think this is a pet peeve of mine
for front windscreens, or windscreens,
the most green thing to say,
is the, I don't like using a Real Wiper,
because it looks like shit, as in what the
water--
I don't like the arch, the clean arch,
or even the sort of muddied arch you end up with.
True, but you can then see out the back of
the car, but I don't need to.
No?
No.
Okay, interesting.
That is a curious one.
I don't need that.
Now, my question is, is why do--
(laughs)
Just keep an eye on who I'll be.
It took me a second, and I realized that I
was getting all roasted.
I think I was going to say, before I got a
review, I forgot.
No, it was, you know, like some cars,
so the Jaguar I-Pace, and a Tesla Model 3 of
a two that spings mind, they don't have rear
wipers from standard, and it's because the
factory go, they go, no, no,
no, the aero means that all the water gets
blown off, just naturally, but that is--
What about the dirt?
Yeah, when a massive seagull comes along and
does a po in the middle of my rear
windscreen, my back window, what's the wind
gonna do then?
That's why you need a surface to missile system.
Once again, Gatling gun will be used.
A little gun that pops out the roof and takes
down nearby flying birds.
So that is annoying, and in the winter,
in my cleo, it's not, especially 'cause if I
bring it here, you do a lot of motorway,
all of the salt comes up, the rear window is
just dumb for, and then you just can't see a
thing and you can't get rid of it at all.
To be fair, you're rear, oh,
sorry, whoa, hold on.
Okay, say that again.
To be fair, your rear wiper has been useless
for some time.
Is that correct?
Ooh, sorry.
Oh, lovely.
Giving you away from your ebay.
Well, we've been in combat just quick.
Your drive shaft's been delivered.
Lovely.
I think we're coming to the end of this point.
Sorry, yes, so I've never had a car with a
working rear wiper.
Okay, you crashed yet?
Ooh, actually, yes.
No!
Oh, you know what, that's a throwback.
We haven't had that one in a while.
No, you said crash had been our doctors.
I get to choose what you did.
That's true, you did, guys.
No, no, no crash had been, please.
Respect the doctors.
Sure, I'll have to go back to it.
Much more peaceful time in my life.
In every car I've ever had, there has been
some feature that doesn't work.
Mostly the washer jet on the rear doesn't
work, so then you just doesn't work.
On the X5, it has two contact points,
which are the very start of one side of it in
the very end.
So you get these two little eyeballs on each side.
I've got to like duck down and see if I can
actually see what's behind me.
Perhaps, look, perhaps on the part of your
defense, I don't know.
I didn't see him back there.
Right, shall we end this week's Cars Rule
Everything Around Me podcast?
And thanks for listening.
Well, I forgot what we say.
Well, thanks for coming along,
folks.
We will be back next week, as always.
Oh, hold on.
In a few weeks, we'll be in Monterey.
If you got this far and you're a person that
knows of cars going to Monterey Car Week that
are cool, let us know.
We might do, shouldn't put this at the
beginning, maybe the next one.
We may do an impromptu car meat style thing.
Well, we might even film a video on driving
some of your cars.
So we will let you know details of that as we go along.
Follow the Cars Rule Everything Around Me at
the Grand page.
We have one.
Which is Cars Rule?
Sure, it's something, and I can't remember.
Just type in cars and see what comes up.
Yeah, just all of them.
Yeah, George, initiative guys.
Let's get in there and find it.
Ask a friend.
Also, very, very sorry that the podcast was
late two weeks ago.
Sorry, sorry.
We didn't know about that in the last
podcast, but we're sorry now.
Yeah, Will didn't know how to edit any of the look.
No, Ben was on the ATM at the time.
Anyway, thank you for listening.
Remember, cars are moving around me.
Cream get the money.
Shoot the seagulls.
