0:00 Introduction and Rule or Ruin

My girlfriend said to me, she was,

like, separate to me in a car,

doing something, moving something else.

Oh, I saw

her in, it's just, like, old Ferrari.

I had, like, a table

on the back, which is what she refers to as a

spoiler,

which is great.

Kind of sounds like an F40, but it slides.

Could only be him.

It's just not true.

No.

Next day.

Driving the van, again, as I'm doing another run.

F40.

Ben, the camera.

Hello.

That wasn't...

Could we get that a bit more?

I know.

A little bit more verb.

Hello.

Nice.

I like that.

Anyway, very tired.

At the beginning of all these podcasts,

we ask ourselves, do cars rule everything

around us or ruin?

You know, I'm starting with Ben.

Fair.

Let's get this livened up.

Also, just before we start, you may notice,

you may hear, if you're listening just with

your ears, it sounds a bit different.

If you're watching with your eyes,

it looks a bit different.

We're in a little Airbnb, so we're filming

two videos away from home today.

I thought, you know what, still a quick podcast here.

Yeah, brief note, it's next to a train track.

Many multiple train tracks.

So if you hear noises, don't worry.

But Ben, take us away.

No, it's a rule.

It's a rule.

And I'll tell you what, it's a rule,

because nothing has happened of note.

Was meant to do the clear service,

didn't do that, but he doesn't really need one.

I just want to do it.

X5, he still has issues, but that's fine.

I still want to get an S2000.

So it's all my use.

It's all positive.

So no news is good news.

Very much.

I want to get them to yours,

because you've got news.

Yeah, there is.

I'm calling it a rule.

Because, well, partly because the Clio is

actually sort of semi on the road.

Well, perhaps maybe tee up what we're doing tomorrow.

Oh, so tomorrow, this is why we're here,

basically.

Well, there are many reasons we're here.

We dropped a project car off today in

Northampton somewhere for something,

but we'll tell you about soon.

But then also tomorrow, in Bedford,

which is where we are right now,

filming a 147 GTA and a MΓ©gane RS-265.

which I've also bought.

Oh, not the car I'm driving tomorrow.

You bought a nicer one, right?

No.

Oh, no, no.

What's your one?

It's a crash.

Oh, that's right.

It's a crash.

And the reason why we're filming this late is

because we've just been to Peterborough to

buy wheels for it.

Hey, man, you know what?

This is nice.

This is starting to become me,

where you buy a car in years till you go,

all right, wheels, wheels.

The wheels are bad on it, so I was like,

okay.

I also, my first ever aftermarket wheels.

We love to see it.

And they are, they are pro track,

like they're quite track car type pedals.

They're just nice.

They're classic.

The only other wheels I bought before that

were the wheels on Ben's X5.

And they, they were from somehow half a mile

down that road.

All things lead to Bedford.

What a lovely city.

If you live here, it's horrible.

Yeah, it's really quite dreadful actually.

But so you bought the car.

I bought the car.

Unseen, yeah.

I, I've found the previous owner.

I've been stalking that guy.

It's silly style.

But you didn't, you didn't go and see the car.

It was a co-car purchase.

So you just bought the car.

Nice clean.

You said it runs.

Hopefully.

That was good.

But you found the previous owner.

You found the previous owner.

He's given me many information.

What does he, didn't he say he would swap you?

Oh, he did.

Yeah.

He said, um, yeah.

I think when you see the car,

you'll find my dirty washing is still in it.

I didn't get a chance to empty the car.

Who said, if you'd like, we can meet up,

I can take my dirty washing back and I can

give you some information and bits and service history.

I was like, that's fair.

That's a nice trade.

It's a fair trade.

I like that.

I was with a copark car.

Often with a copark, when you buy a car from

copark, which is like a salvage auction,

you know, we don't get anything.

It's like, no, you have car.

You might get a V5.

sometimes not even that.

You might get a key.

It might run.

It might.

We've said it.

We said it does.

It might not.

It runs or it's knocking, but it does run.

It did run.

Does we told you it ran?

It did not run well, but it runs.

So that's the story with that.

Yeah.

Cleo's on the road.

And you're excited for the big app?

I am excited, actually.

You're two French cars up.

Yeah.

That's the dangerous place to be.

Yeah.

And I think I'll, I'll been off the Range

Rover as well.

Wow.

So you've got to be three 50s.

I'm going to be three 50s.

That's three 50s.

We're getting Cleo 182.

It's an interesting town of events.

The three 50s, he's the reliability mainstay.

Three 50s.

Whatever France throws it.

No, no.

Boss, the three 50.

He goes, don't matter.

Yeah.

I will just start and run.

A rule.

Overall.

Overall.

Yeah.

I'm actually quite excited.

That's cool.

And

4:17 Edwin's Exhaust Issue

yourself.

Now it was a ruin because I,

we finished the above video that went out

last week, a week before.

And the last thing I needed to do that I

discovered after we did off our drive and

everything, I went under the car to fix a,

a rattle.

from the exhaust, which is annoying me.

And I saw, oh, there's a split CV boot,

easy.

I asked the guys at Fairby, can you send me

that out CV boot?

Cool.

Not a problem.

You're away that day moving.

So I was like, cool, just a quick,

easy job.

It wasn't a quick, easy job.

Yeah.

I did go to the unit this morning and see.

The above is still on the left.

Yeah.

Because it now needs an entire drive shaft

because the whichever absolute ape has been a

hit before has tried to get the drive shaft

off without hammering.

So what you do is you take the drive shaft

not off and then you thread it on a good

couple turns and then you hit the nut on the

end, not the actual drive shaft itself

because then you mushroom the tip,

the mushroom tip of the drive shaft.

Sorry.

You mushroom the tip of the drive shaft and

then you can't get it out.

And guess who'd already done that before?

You know, once in my life, I have done that

and I paid the price.

But this time it wasn't me.

I looked at it and I was so annoyed.

I ordered another one.

So for that reason, it was Ruin.

The reason I asked you to go first,

I don't want to steal your thunder.

Do you know, do you remember what I said in

previous podcasts that I wasn't going to do this year?

What was that?

It was a never by car.

Yeah.

Until the others are fixed.

Yeah.

Which is a very long list.

Yeah.

An expensive list.

Yeah.

Yeah.

An extensive.

Yeah.

I did this weekend.

You bought a car.

I did buy a car.

Wait, what?

No, I swear.

I have not told Ben or Will less.

Is it an M6?

No, no, no, God, no.

No.

No, hang on, let me let us guess.

Okay.

That's right.

I promise I bought a car.

Throw us a ballpark price.

It was Β£2,300 away.

Okay.

We're talking ratty, Ben.

Sorry, hang on a second.

You've been doing this all day because you've

mentioned not buying cars about a three-time estate.

No, no.

You said this morning that you had something

that you wouldn't tell me to the podcast.

I didn't even know, but this is...

How did it count that in?

It's an E34.

No.

Is it a BMW?

Yes.

Okay.

20 questions, though.

Five series.

No, it's an E36.

It's an E36.

It's an E36.

It's white.

It's white.

Yeah.

Is it that...

Is it the one from the ocean?

It's the one from the ocean.

Why?

So you got...

That's your third one.

I can't remember if we mentioned this before,

but the Corsa...

Yeah.

The Corsa...

Explain the whole story.

Explain the whole story.

We did a series where we bought 90 hot hatches.

Yep.

You bought a starlet.

I got a Corsa B with a Sarb engine.

We gave those cars away.

The winners took them.

The winner of the Corsa was really pleased with it.

Next day, it was for sale.

And now, an auction company has it.

We don't know what's happened,

but anyway, auction company has it.

And then...

You looked at the link and gone,

"I don't know if this was sale."

Edwin showed a lot of interest in one of the photos.

We got sent, so a guy who works for the

auction company sent at the M saying,

"Oh, by the way, we've got your Corsa."

So we were interested.

We were like, "Where's this Corsa going?"

And he sent at the M and it was a photo.

It was just a photo of the Corsa,

sat outside their unit.

And in the photo, next to it,

was a white E36 saloon.

And that's...

Sorry, you don't have one of those.

No, I don't think so.

I don't think I have one.

Sorry, how many you have no E36 saloons?

No.

No.

Okay.

So that's why you buy one.

This is your first one.

This is my first one.

Okay.

All right, fair.

Three times.

Was it an E36 white saloon?

Okay.

I said, "What's the deal with that?"

And he said to me, "Oh, that's also in the sale.

It's in no reserve auction.

There's loads of cars going with no reserve."

And so I had...

I didn't really have plans of buying it,

but I was like, "You know what?

Let me just keep an eye on that guy."

And then the morning came, it was Sunday,

it was yesterday morning.

I was like, "Look, I don't need this,

but if he's going cheap, I'm not letting

someone else have it."

He didn't need the first deal either,

so...

That's true.

No, no, he didn't need the first,

the first one.

First one's daily.

Second one was track build.

Admittedly, lagging behind the mat.

Sorry, hang on.

It's your daily when you serve one.

Where's that currently?

He's in storage, but he's got bigger plans.

Okay, okay.

And then when you...

So that one hasn't been daily,

at the minute.

Hey, when you did day it for a while,

when we were...

What do you mean for a while?

I put like 25, 30,000 miles on that car.

Where is it now?

In storage, because he's waiting for the greater good.

It's not gonna happen.

It is, that is gonna happen.

100%.

I don't believe it.

Okay.

Do you know why the reason that's gonna happen?

'Cause I'm not gonna be the one doing it.

Okay.

I'm gonna pay a man to do that,

'cause I won't have to be done right.

Okay, yeah.

And then your white E36 alone.

Yeah.

That track build.

How many tracks have been on?

Now, look, I'm gonna hold my hands up here.

That's on me.

The other stuff, you know, TDC happened.

Can we admit that?

Can we say that?

I think, yeah.

We can confirm it at the very minimum.

Confirm TDC did it.

9:01 E36 Auction Experience

TDC, yeah.

It's one of the things that has happened to

all the time.

Okay, so what is the spec of this car?

What is it?

What is it?

Yeah, what is it?

Is it a three to eight?

It is a no.

Is anything of interest?

Well, if it's not a three to eight.

It's a three to eight.

It's a three on six.

It's a three on six.

Oh my God.

Sorry, you have a three on six.

I have a three on six.

You have a silver three one six.

Corto.

Yeah.

Hang on.

No.

It's a manual.

It is a manual.

Okay, so it's a variation.

Yeah, it's a variation on a theme.

Exactly.

It's a Pokemon.

Pokemon.

It's Pokemon.

Okay.

But plans?

Now this one, I haven't seen it because it's

30 years now.

Well wait, I have to tell the story first.

This is quite funny.

So I was bidding on the car.

I got to the unit to work on the mark and I

was bidding on the car and then so I was

bidding back and forth.

And I got a text from my mate,

Will, the guy I've mentioned before on the

podcast, the works on the Land Rover's vestige customs.

And he said, is that you bidding?

And I was like, oh yeah, he's there with his family.

He and his family like to go out to car

auctions and watch them.

And it's down the road from him.

I was like, ah, okay, he's there.

And then I went, hold on, he can drive it home.

'Cause I haven't worked out how to get it home yet.

That's a good enough reason to buy it.

Exactly.

Yeah, absolutely.

But so I'd said to myself, two grand maximum.

If it goes to two grand, I'll have it.

'Cause it's cheap for a, it's an 83,000 mile

white saloon, which is my, it's the speck I love.

What I was like, it got to two grand,

and I actually went, I'm out,

that's it.

And then no one bid, and I want it.

And then I got a message from him going,

so I do, I need to deal with this.

I was like, yeah, you need to take that home.

Jumping the 316.

Jump, it's gonna be a hell of a slow ride.

But sorry, what he said, he was like,

oh, we're gonna head out early,

'cause I tried to call him to pay for it.

And they're like, we only let you pay once

the auction is done.

This was a lot seven out of 120.

Okay, great.

And so they were like, yeah,

you're gonna have to call like a 435.

And they said to my friend, Will,

I was like, how long are you there to?

And he was like, ah, we're probably going to

be there into like lunch, 'cause we're

probably not gonna buy anything.

I was like, ah, that's fine,

man, ah, don't worry, I'll go get the car.

That's fine, it's fine, it's fine,

that's all right.

And then, while I was working the background,

I had it playing.

And then I heard, ah, 'cause his mom was

bidding on stuff.

Oh, man, your son seems to be interested in this one.

I was like, hold on, that's him.

There's only one person that's gonna be

bidding with his parents there.

And he was bidding on a race car,

a junior hill climb, 1300 race car from the '70s.

Like a single-seater.

Single-seater, it looks like a Formula One

car from the '70s, but small.

Okay.

And 'cause it was going, it was,

this whole, basically, most of these cars

were no reserve.

And so, it was going for like a thousand pounds.

And so, I know he's just gone,

right?

We've done a couple of track bays recently,

so he's like, right, I'm getting,

this is a track car, I'm a racing driver.

He's won it for 1300 pounds.

It's a race car?

Yeah.

It's old, it's very old.

But the moment that happened went down,

I was like, oh God, yes, he's like,

now he has to wait until the end of the day.

I said great, but I said great by him.

You bet, you did well.

You know, Will, congratulations on your race car.

I had you out, are you sticking around?

'Cause then he was like, yeah,

I'll come back tomorrow, I'll pick up your

car on that one.

So, currently, he's sitting in my mates unit,

he's both my, three, one sixes.

So, he's seen it, is there a,

is there a, he says, it's pretty good.

And so, next question, plan.

plan is, that is, road car, not,

not, so, the white, that's three,

one six road car.

No, no, no, no, no.

Okay, three, one sixes, that can't stay.

But, for the next few months,

12:43 Future Plans for New Car

slap some wheels on it, get them looking

nice, band it around, 'cause now I'm gonna

get rid of the Merc.

So, the Merc is now, the moment the hammer

went down, Merc sold.

So, if you wanna buy the C55,

I'm gonna finish the last bits on it,

there'll be a video on it soon,

it might actually be out by the time this,

this is gone out.

It's for sale.

It's springy, it's all, hopefully.

The 8C is coming back out for the summer.

I was telling myself, it's springy.

I just wanna clear something up,

but what about the other YE36?

That's an angry, a track car now.

Sorry, the other YE36 stays,

I thought what you were saying was,

is that you've now picked a better shell,

and you were gonna pillage parts,

the nice parts, AKA wheels from that one,

but you're not doing that.

Maybe you're gonna buy more wheels for the new YE36.

I think so, yeah, I think so.

I think that's business.

I think that's BVSRCs, I think we'll buy something.

I'm gonna say it.

Your other YE36, my least favorite car you

have, you know what Ben?

Yeah.

You're my least favorite friend.

Wow, that's probably true.

No, that's not true at all.

You know what?

It's just, it's a sad car.

Yeah, do you know what, that's the only

thing, that other car, as much as I enjoyed

saving it in inverter comers,

I always, there's something,

there's something off about that car.

Someone's ruined it, and as much as I try and

help it, it always fights me,

and it annoys me.

Because this is, for wonder of a better term,

I'm molested.

It really is.

The only thing there is bad on it,

it's got black, it's got black grills on the front.

These can be changed.

So I have, I have many sets of chrome,

E36 grills at home, but taking a set up to

change them to drive back up.

Wasn't the old way of '36, it had the wrong grills in.

That had a pre-face lift grill,

so I swapped the compact.

So the compact.

Yeah, that was my blues coupe.

Sorry, okay, sorry, it is difficult.

What color is the interior?

It's black.

Is it cloth?

No, full black leather.

Wow.

So this is a really late car,

so my one is a 91 and then a 97.

Okay.

So this was, that was a genuine reveal to

Will and Ben.

I've been trying not to tell of all that.

I'm stunned, but I'm not surprised.

But also when we were in the Cayenne on the

way, do you remember how I looked at my phone

and it said, "Ham's absorption."

I started reading the text and it said,

"Can you please call us back about yours?"

And I stopped reading it and we went,

"Oh, is that from the call, sir?"

'Cause you're messing with the DM the guy.

I went, "Yeah, that's, yeah,

that's it."

No, I don't like this.

Is this how we're running this now?

I think, do you know why?

Ben, you got anything to say?

No, I would like to buy a car in auction now.

'Cause if I've done that, I thought I left out.

The reason that I held this,

held on to this is 'cause I knew I would be

met with this.

I wanted to save for the podcast.

'Cause that's a genuine reaction of why.

Yeah, that is, no, there is.

Yeah, that's actually why I confused.

Do you know what?

And Ben earlier asked, "What's your most impulsive buy?"

Oh, you were saying in a Cayenne.

Literally when I was, the reason I was going,

"Ah, it's 'cause it's that."

I think it was a jumper I bought recently,

actually.

So

yeah, I can't be helped.

So that's 10?

Might be 11.

Okay.

No, it's 10, it's 10, it's 10,

it's 10, it's 10.

Okay, so where are you gonna drop it?

Drop another one.

That is really one of the greatest questions.

Well, it's being kept right now.

It is being kept.

So thank you very much to Will and thank you

to Vestige Customs going following.

More of your cars are going,

aren't they?

Yes, or what, and why is that?

Yes, because--

Let's talk about this.

Oh, yeah.

So it's now a rule, because I've bought a car.

Okay.

Therefore, I'm riding the high.

I haven't even seen it yet.

I've bought a car, so I'm happy.

I'm excited.

Okay.

If you understand that in the comments,

please let us know, the high of buying a

car--

I think it's potentially, I genuinely think

it's akin to what some people have with like

gambling or drinking or anything like that.

Absolutely.

Where you get this.

It's also, there's something about when

someone else does it.

You've done that now.

Yeah.

Now fortunately, I have also bought a car,

so there's not as much of an effect.

No.

I bought a car.

You'd be upset.

I would be upstairs in bed this evening

going--

I need to buy a car.

Yeah.

I need to feel what he feels.

I was talking about this because MX-5 will,

as we refer to him, bestiege will,

he's the same.

Yeah.

If I buy a car, he's got a bar car.

Yeah.

It's not good.

And he bought a car last week.

Yeah.

And I went, oh, I'll buy this back.

He then had to buy a car in the same auction.

It's trouble.

But you haven't even seen your car,

but do you not still feel it?

Yeah, I still feel it.

You still feel like--

I feel like--

Oh.

Because it's something new for me to do.

I'm not googling wheels.

I'm looking at--

Yeah.

What can I buy?

It doesn't even have a headlight.

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

But I'm still like, oh, I need to buy this.

I'm in the group going, do I go for the C.A.E.

or the cooler works?

Meanwhile, the MΓ©gane's sick with no front bonnet.

So yeah, that is trouble.

That's all rules and ruins for the week.

Shall we tangent onto something that came out

a few weeks ago, but we haven't talked about

on the podcast yet, as we

17:22 BMW M6 DCT Test Drive

drove the BMW M6 from Ratdog,

the DCT car.

God.

And if you didn't watch that video,

essentially, a very talented friend of ours,

we were calling you our friend.

Peter, we were calling him Peter.

You shouldn't really be a Peter.

Nah, he's always Peter.

He's always Peter.

They have finally got DCT

working.

We spoke about it on the podcast,

the dual clutch

transmission from the E92 M3 working in the

M5 and M6.

This

was in an M6.

We drove it and I kept saying this to people.

I'd not trying to be melodramatic,

but it was life changing

in terms of like, it's truly special.

(laughs) 'Cause we drove Taylor's M5.

Yeah.

And that was great.

I'm not trying to bash it at all.

That, you know what, that, I didn't drive it.

It actually let me down.

Exactly.

The sound was great and I was happy,

but it was such a bad gearbox that I was

like, I don't know that I care that much

about wanting one as much as I used to.

And then we drove the M6 and it was

everything my brain had ever wanted from that engine.

It just all made sense.

instant, it was just, it was a multiple car.

It was a race car.

What's funny is that Nuno, who owns that car,

he's like, yeah, it's not really like a track car.

Nuno, mate.

I don't know if you listen to this,

Peter, you're listening to this,

that's a track car.

That's the rack spaces.

When you got in it, you got in it,

you were driving.

It was a squeeze.

Yeah, it was tough for both of us.

Which is to be fair, on us, that's not his.

Nuno ran over and he's, oh, by the way,

there's a rack spaces or on the steering rack.

So like, you know, three points 10.

10s are just a bit of a problem.

Three fine turns aren't the problem.

Just turning.

Just turning.

We turned, we turned at the petrol station at

the end, which a dump truck could quite

easily, Ben's dump truck could get around.

Just about.

And Will went wide into the petrol stations.

Will was in the, it was alongside the pump.

Let's go.

Just pedestrians GTA style jumping out of the way.

It's not a mate, like, it's a track car,

but it was, it was incredible.

And I came out the other side saying,

I'm gonna sell multiple my things.

I said to Peter, I'm pretty fake.

Can we have one, please?

No, he said it's quite, well.

He did say he reckons it's repeatable.

He's also like, I don't know for sure,

but also I have faith.

He knows.

So I'm gonna do up my 850, I sell that and

the Merc will sell that.

There is some of that money's now kind of

gone on a work car, but you know what?

I'll get, I'll mess around with that work car

for a bit and sell that for an M6.

No, it's just not true.

I will, I will.

Ben, can you do something else?

No, okay.

Absolutely.

Also, you said, this is also crazy because

today already you've already said,

why did you say you was gonna sell your black

hate series as well for it?

No.

I never said that.

No, I never said that.

But sure you're gonna need to.

Yeah.

It is gonna cost 6,000 pounds to get the

programming done.

Look, I'm not saying it's gonna happen,

suit.

I'm just saying that there's a fund that's starting.

I will sell one of the white 36s.

Okay, worth it.

So you've got 2,000 pounds now.

They've got, I've got to save up.

I've got to keep saving.

Okay, so, all right.

I do not, I'm gonna place a bet right here today.

That, how many cars are you saying go to,

by what day?

It's a great point.

In the next month?

No, good.

Next two months?

No, no, no.

Three, that's--

By Summer Solstice.

Next year.

Next year?

Sorry, sorry.

The Blue Eight series is gonna need like six

months alone.

That's a rubbish bet.

I'm not playing this.

Scrap it.

By next Christmas, I'll about this Christmas.

Next Christmas, I forgot we're at the

beginning of this year.

By the Christmas, you will sell two of 11 cars.

That's tough to hear about.

10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10.

Coming up upwards of 3,000 pounds.

That's tough to hear, but it's true.

Towards a potential 20,000 pound bill.

Really, it's the thought that counts.

For the audience, I must say customers then.

For the customers, sorry, at the end of time.

In the shop.

For the customers listening,

to quantify just how important this is to

you, what would you sell in your collection?

Like, realistically, collection.

It's a little sale.

Realistic thing, what would you sell first?

Everything.

Everything but the MX5B and M3,

which is, and the issue here is that the M3

is the only thing worth any amount of money.

No, A-Series, a black A-Series.

Yeah, he's also one of the Rope estate series around.

But it's right, he looks great.

The value is obvious.

Yeah, yeah, he's probably worth ever.

Just about more than what I paid for him.

So, seven or eight.

Nine-eleven.

Yeah, part of me would, but I think,

'cause that car is that, nine-eleven is

pretty soon to be back.

We're working on the gearbox as we squeak.

So that should hopefully be,

on the road soon, but I have a feeling once

it drives, I'll be less wanting to sell it.

Okay.

But equally, just maybe, but probably not.

But probably, yeah, I'd get rid of the year,

nine-eleven.

Cloud set off, it's tough.

I'd buy the nine-eleven, that's worth it.

Yeah, you know what, Ben, if you know what,

for you, you can have it for what I have into it.

Which is 95,000.

No, no.

Well, he's actually not about there.

He's not about there.

Five grand, I think, plus the,

I think it was 1500 quid for the gearbox,

plus the bits and bobs.

I have to build it in 24 hours.

Oh, it's a seven.

You know what, oh, Ben.

It's got a little video there.

It's got a little video there.

I think I might die.

Yeah, I think my money's safe.

(laughing)

Would you work hard for that?

Yeah, also people, the other thing is,

I had this every day, someone said to me,

they re-elected 9/11, who I mates did,

who's seen the video recently.

That car is not nice.

That's horrible.

That car's wild.

That car's wild.

Yeah, behind the scenes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Even at seven grand, that's still cheap for that car.

Oh yeah, it could be the worst 9/11.

I think it really might be.

Yeah.

Back one of the videos that we did the other

day, and it looks great.

In the videos, you're like, pass a clean,

it's horrible.

It's actually really not good.

The drive to the Nurburgring was tough.

It was tough.

However, as of today, randomly,

kind of perhaps, what do you call it,

serendipity?

I don't know.

I don't think that's correct.

No idea.

Steve, the 9/11 breaker said,

oh, by the way, I've just got a full 9/11 and

9/16 interior coming in.

Let me know if you want it.

Okay, Ben, don't make, don't you want that?

But we moved it earlier, to get the trailer out.

I just forgot how rough it is.

Yeah, I think everyone always forgets it's a

track, not it's a track car,

but it's like, it's been stripped inside.

There's nothing, it was made,

we've purely made it so that it worked.

Exactly.

Engine ran.

Steel wheel turned the wheels,

kind of, sort of, sometimes.

Windows didn't go up and down.

Oh, they did.

And it's hot water.

It did, yeah, and it's not hot water.

Yeah, it was rough.

But it's still best case now if that car,

that car was that car.

Oh, that car was done.

It was fire.

Going for braking.

Yeah.

It's still on the road with us,

that's what counts.

Well, soon enough, it will maybe be on the road.

Do we have any news?

Not much.

Great, many ways.

Thanks for listening.

No, there was one thing that did catch my

eye, and that was that, you know,

the R8 is dead, right?

Yeah, for about a year now, apparently.

It might come back.

Oh, okay.

How do you come back?

Yeah, as that is it, but also not.

Trick to you.

I thought it was a good Germans called Cuba.

We had you for a whole year.

You know how like the R8 always shared like a

platform with Pericam?

Pericam, before that, and then the Hurricane.

Oh, there was a terrarium now.

Interesting.

So there's a platform there.

There are a lot of memories and thinking and

there's been a couple of concepts about other R8s.

With the same engine?

With the high-roving engine?

I can't tell you.

They go now, we get the four part of it from the A1.

That would be tough.

That would be cool though.

The four part of the A1.

No, they were just a 10,000 RPM V8.

Do you know what?

I must have said Audi more.

The thing I would quite like to see is like

Lamborghini were good enough about evolving

it, if that makes sense.

Like if you look at Gen 1 Gallardo versus

5.2, there was quite a drastic change.

Yeah.

And then that to the Huracan,

and then the Huracan changing throughout.

Whereas Audi just always went,

"It's just the R8."

And then it's the R8?

Yeah, and like the facelift.

And then it's the R8.

And then it's the R8.

It's very similar, it's just lights and rear.

And then the Gen 2, very similar.

If they could go a little bit,

you know,

Good work.

A little bit different that I'd be interested in that.

So I always had a soft swap for the R8.

I love the R8.

It's just cool.

Oh, so I really liked the original R8.

Real nice.

The first one doesn't look like a 2007 2008.

No, it still looks clean, but the facelift

version of that Gen, the first,

ooh.

LMX lights, those later lights,

those nice lights.

It's just a nice, it's just a good looking car.

Yeah.

It's a bit, not dull, but like,

in terms of supercars, it's Audi.

It's just a good design.

But speaking of now, I was trying to remember

earlier before we started what the news was

that I was gonna talk about,

maybe you haven't your list,

but focus being dead as well.

Yeah, that's on the list.

It's not in use.

Force focus is dead.

Yeah, that's actually--

Force, man, what are you doing?

I'm a big focus enjoyer.

Number one, weakest full focus in these yes.

There's many on my, well, there's,

or?

And all that.

And all that.

And all that.

Hot versions as well.

Yeah, I've had two STs, two RS's.

Yeah, all mark two.

And he's one.

And said, yeah, that's my guy,

mark two is my guy.

I would love a mark one.

Oh, I would love.

And I'm always annoyed because it was,

I can't remember how many years ago,

but I was considering a mark one RS.

And it was like, they were like six grand?

Seven grand?

I just don't wanna speak like that.

I just don't wanna speak like that.

Like Ted and got you a nice one.

Got you a nice one.

Yeah, couple of bods, couple of hours.

And those bods, like, oh, we want 20.

Well, there's a tough piece of news relating to this.

Obviously, we're looking at,

we've both been looking at mark one RS's and

the value is just keep going.

Land beginning, that's your logo.

No.

Did you talk about it?

This was a, you could document our sadness in real time.

Yeah.

It was really quite tough.

I actually don't think I felt sadder.

Do you tee up the story?

So, actually, there was a, I can't remember

your name, I'm very, very sorry.

A subscriber, a follower, a man tagged us in

a post on Instagram that was a Lamborghini

Mercy Lager for sale.

I don't, neither of us could afford

that.

So we thought, well, say well look,

how much is that gonna be?

Of course, you're gonna be.

How much is that gonna be?

How much is that gonna be?

'Cause I like to track the price.

Yeah, and we were saying we,

Mercy Lager is something we don't track as closely.

Yeah.

'Cause we know them.

We know where they are.

I know that.

They're always sitting around 100,

125, 150 gets you like a nice one.

Yeah, you're paying silly money for those special ones.

Yeah, no, not anymore.

Yeah, this is not, this is tough.

So I've gone into, I think it was on piston heads.

It was a yellow manual 6.2, so like the very

first Mercy Lager basically,

to me, perfection.

Exactly what I'd have.

It was, wasn't 100 grand, wasn't it?

No, it wasn't.

Just a bit, oh no, it was 300,000 pounds.

That was it.

And it sold.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And then there's also another car on there,

a Roadster 375,000 pounds.

Yeah.

These are cars that were 100 to 150.

Actually, at one point, 80.

Yeah.

And it's, it's just, it's actually upsetting.

It's upsetting.

It's really upsetting.

And the funny thing is, I then,

the thought, that dropped my memory and every

other friend who has a 6.2, coupe,

and he went, "Oh no, I just,

I put it up for sale.

It's on piston heads.

You might have seen it."

That one.

That one.

That one?

Mm.

That makes sense.

I thought, 'cause we didn't know that before.

I thought 300,000 pounds, maybe it's super low miles.

It had 23,000, which obviously is a very low

amount of miles, but not that low.

In height, super slash high per car territory.

Yeah.

It's not, it's nothing to write home about.

No.

The road star I was just talking about had

300 miles on it.

Yeah.

I was like, "You know what, fair enough."

I was calling you a nearly 400 grand,

but it's car selling for 300 grand?

It's tough.

Look, we can dream, but not our price.

No.

That is now unobtainium.

Yeah.

By the time if I sell all every white 36 on

Earth and put together all the money,

by the time I did that, Mercy Logos would

then be half a mill and then a mill and two

mill and three mill.

And then it just keeps getting worse.

I then saw a DK engineering post.

They posted it as a black Mercy Logos 6.2.

What you get in theory is the least desirable.

Yeah.

Not the one that everyone wants.

Yeah.

Supposedly.

It just had sold before it even hit the market sold.

It's just--

I don't know the price, but I'm just gonna,

it's just lots.

Yeah, full focus is dead then.

Go.

I'm upset about that.

I was thinking about this, is that obviously

the full focus, it's not necessarily,

there's been others before.

Before that.

Yeah.

The Escal era and whatever else.

So there's a chance.

There's a chance, but also I'll see forward

at the moment.

Seeing what they did with the Capri,

I saw Capri the other day, Ben,

you and I were together when we saw,

I saw my first Capri, and that's a pollster.

Yeah, that's rough.

That's straight up, not good.

No, I don't want that at all.

Ford, sort it out.

All the old best Fords are old.

Fords anyway, just an old man speaking.

I don't have any more news, so there's a

section there called General.

Okay.

This is just General stuff.

What's the General stuff?

General car stuff that we've seen and spoken about.

Salute to him.

Now first thing actually, there was a trailer

for a series that's coming out in the end of

this month, probably soon actually by the Sunday March.

29th of March, it was 30th of March or

something like that, end

30:23 General Car News and Discussion

of March.

A new Guy Ritchie series, immediately.

Always good.

I'm watching it, it's got Tom Hardy in it.

Good.

Cold, Pierce Brosnan.

How did Marin, Pierce Brosnan doing Welsh and

Irish accents at the same time somehow?

Yeah, he's giving it the big Irish on this one.

But there was an E92 M3.

Now I was watching the trailer,

like the first trailer, and there was a flash

of a gray pre-face lift, E92 M3 on those wheels.

On those wheels.

Okay, I'm watching this no matter what.

Yep.

I thought this is, that's all that we'll see

in the trailer.

Maybe six or seven more clips of just an E92

giving it large.

Skid round.

Just absolutely giving it the beans.

The only thing, as you told me about this,

I was like, okay,

Also, you put it in our chat,

we have a chat for topics for the podcast.

And it just said, Guy Ritchie E92 M3.

And do you know what I went straight winded?

I went, does Guy Ritchie own an E92 M3?

Because I was like, nah, surely not.

I watched the trailer, you showed me.

I watched the trailer, first noise.

It's baby driver, RB26 sound effects.

It's, again, if you make programs and have

cars in, we're here.

Yeah.

We're always willing to work with you.

Free advice or paid, either,

or just want you to get it right.

Because it's not like you started out with a 320D.

You have an M3, you have the good noise.

Yeah.

Unless it's got a diesel in it.

I don't know, maybe.

Well, that's fun.

This is, I'm wondering, perhaps you can

confirm if you're in the know.

Is James Dean driving that car?

Because I know he, E90X chassis cars,

especially M3s, are his go-to for skidding.

There's a video, so skidding around the field.

An interlaugus.

Oh, on the go-kop track.

A standard M3 just on coilovers,

they're like, "No, nothing to do with steering lock."

And I've never seen a car move like that in my life.

He's swaying--

Just all the angle.

Yeah.

He finds angles with no other man and find.

He's a protractor.

(laughs) They call him the protractor.

But yeah, I'm quite looking forward to that,

because, well, a series looks good,

but also, E90X2 and 3.

But if I watch that series--

And it's awesome.

And it's also, I said to you earlier,

I've been re-watching Ash to Ashes.

Oh, Audi Quattro, just one of the cool,

but none of the noises it's all four cylinders.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

And I never, I watched that when I was a kid,

didn't, wasn't actually that bother-bought,

I didn't really know.

Watched it recently, and like,

fired up the Quattro.

Celebrated away, it was like--

You have a five cylinder.

Yeah.

So again, if you're in TV, what's going on?

Although it's one of the best series.

Yeah, one of the best series.

Even life on Mars, cars, lots of good old,

lots of good things, skinner.

Ash is better.

Ash is better.

Yeah, Ash is better, Ash is better.

Recommend it.

Yeah, just don't listen to the car scenes.

You've put, or someone has put BYD drone.

Yes, that's something I sort of saw around

him on Instagram.

There is now, I don't know the facts about it.

Sorry, what do you expect us to bring you

news or something?

A BYD, there is now a four by four BYD that

has an optional extra of a drone.

So when you get stuck in traffic,

you can send the drone up to go and see what's happening.

Yeah, roller.

Oh, that's a great idea.

But so yeah, no, that's an actual factory with DJI.

It's an actual collaboration.

Do they make the hopping super car or is that

someone else?

Yes, I think so.

Just doing side questions.

Just messing around.

Sorry, I think it's like a $2,000 optional

extra, but to buy the drone would cost you

like four grand.

So if you just needed the drone and you

wanted a discount, buy that car with the

package, sell the car for like 70 grand,

save yourself two grand.

Now, it makes sense.

is a business tips.

Have they ever used ways?

Apparently there was a way.

Because also it's work out what's ahead.

Because even if you have the drone,

you're in a traffic jam.

Yeah.

What do you do next?

Can the drone come and pick you up?

Sell the sell the sell the footage to the

news so that you make up money while you're in there.

If it was a helicopter, I could understand it.

You can lift the car and you can you can

actually skip it.

But a drone feels a little bit of a videographer.

It is an interesting to you.

No, thanks.

Oh, okay.

What do you do to get your interest as a videographer?

Oh, that's build your dream.

Perhaps it could perhaps hire me to film you.

Perhaps it could export the footage at the

end of the day on the way home instead of

meaning you're at the computer.

Oh, maybe it could do the edit at 1 a.m.

rather than myself.

That would be nice.

That's interesting.

No, no, I think you prefer when you do it.

Yeah.

I'm quite excited about it.

Sadly mate.

See you on Saturday.

Yeah, always.

Yeah.

Sadly morning.

Working on the weekend, like usual.

Okay, be on the next list.

I've got Ferrari Table on back.

Yeah, that's a great start.

That's something I put in.

Again, this little channel we have,

it's just words.

It's just random words.

It's just on us to then remember it come podcast time.

So I've been moving house recently.

I've been driving a Newton van around last

weekend, which was truly wonderful.

I have the most basic of vans.

The most wonderful of vans.

Sorry, just quickly.

We might do a We Bought Vans series.

If there's an app type for that,

please let us know in the comments.

If there's not, we're doing anything anyway,

because we just want to buy vans and skid

vans and modify vans.

But driving along in my van,

multiple runs, obviously, doing this,

this house move.

My girlfriend said to me, she was like,

separate to me in a car, doing something,

moving something else.

And we got back.

I saw her, it's just like old Ferrari had

like a table on the back, which is what she

refers to as a spoiler, which is great.

I was like, well, it kind of sounds like an

F40, but it slides.

Could only be him.

It's just not true.

No, no one's driving an F4 theory up,

isn't it?

It's just not true.

Next day, driving the van again,

because I'm doing another run.

F40.

In like the same area where she said there's

this long road by a mushroomish way,

but the lanes are very, very wide,

and this F40 comes hare down there.

And I, oh, my window is down.

And then I have this just popped and like

cracked in the back.

Oh, and I had my mum in the van with me.

I was mid-conversation.

I just went, oh!

I was like, this is an F40, just on the street.

I don't think I've naturally seen an F40.

I've seen an F40 out about the life.

It might have been, there's a car event or

there's something, but it's just driving.

driving F40 around.

I was like, was it on that road?

She's like, yeah.

There's just a guy cruising around.

He's driving up and down.

Because also the weekend weather was,

oh, it's lovely.

So he was like, you know what?

I'm just going to hop in the F40.

Also interesting, you said this before,

but that road, first time will I ever drove together.

Yeah, that is a car throttle hood.

Sorry, we couldn't legally call it a hood.

No, it was a meat of some sort.

It was a company social.

That was the one that was coming social.

On the weekend.

You can van.

And now, you know, you know,

started from the bottom.

Now I'm driving past the hood spot.

Your value is actually like pen-tuple.

Driving past the hood spot in the loon van is

a huge dump.

Was it, was, did see you again start playing?

Yeah.

But yeah, that was just seeing an F40 on the road.

That's cool.

And now imagine what that looked like in '89

or '90 when there's cavaliers and things driving around.

I haven't actually been in an F40.

In the paddle up one?

Yeah, the paddle up one.

That was, I didn't fit in the seat.

I didn't care.

Because I was not in an F40.

But also my drive consisted of the average

speed check on the M4 and then through central London.

That's nice.

That's fair, you know.

It was quite upsetting.

Yeah.

I was like, this is damn cool.

I got an F40 at 25 miles an hour.

But you weren't driving.

I wasn't driving, I'm sorry,

no, no.

I would have really been upset.

You know, I put it just on speed.

Yeah, speed tickets would have happened.

Yeah.

Also, you and F40, they're going to send you

a speed ticket.

Whoever owns it, they can pay it.

It's not me.

Oh, this is a good one.

Air Fryer versus PMS.

Oh, this is a nice one.

Also, Ben's suitably delirious enough today,

so this is great.

So, Ben, can you see us up?

Then you own a

38:18 Ben's Clio 182 Court Case

Clio 182, correct?

It's a great car.

Let's hold court.

I'll sit here, I'll understand.

Benjamin Rogers.

Hello.

You stand accused of owning a Clio 182.

Sorry, allegedly.

Allegedly?

See?

I don't see my lawyer.

This guy.

Yeah.

He confirms, yes.

Now, you have owned this Clio for coming up

for a year now.

Yeah, 10 months.

10 months.

All right.

He's trying to get funny business with him.

I'm just caught on accurate.

OK, fair.

Yeah.

Now, at the beginning of your ownership for

the video in which it was purchased,

you did quite a number of mods.

Indubitably.

OK.

Now, tell me, have any more mods been done since then?

Yes.

Scratch the wheels.

OK.

And my girlfriend broke the seat.

Lovely.

Lovely to see.

Now, the court has the stenographer typed

down no because that's the answer.

Let the record show no.

Is there or is there not something since they

were you've wanted to do, which is a PMS shifter?

Yes, since you drove wheels.

Context being that in the video,

we did a longer shifter because whatever man

designed the clear 182 driving position was

bent up like a pretzel.

and didn't.

You essentially need to be a human being that

doesn't quite exist on this planet.

You have to have my arms.

But also very short legs.

Yeah, you actually have to be in a ring of

time to do that.

It's a horrible driving position and one was

fully stocked.

One thing that does really help is getting a

longer shifter and you can get one from a

mark one scenic, which is just the same thing.

It's longer.

We did it for the video because it was nicer.

It was nicer and it was also cheaper because

it's just a longer shifter.

The actual, the throw is still really like an OEM car.

It's wang about basically it.

I can a lot of slop.

Yeah, and also because it's longer,

it feels like it's wang about more as well.

So I wanted a PMS, a pure motorsport shifter

for every wheel has, which is basically standard.

Ben's trying to drop the main,

getting a drop of it.

It's a pure motorsport.

They're on Instagram.

I think they haven't actually had an NBA.

Specializing Renault parts.

Great guys.

But basically it's those gearbox kind of cheese.

it blows it up.

But all it is, it just means it's normal

shifter, normal throws, but it doesn't have any movement.

These parts of the mechanical.

Drove wheels one, it's lovely.

And I've won one, but they're at 400 pounds.

Okay.

Now, before we get to that, I want to talk

the PMS shifter.

If you know this stuff, this is niche.

But also the economy of the PMS shifter.

It's the most stable market.

It's completely stable.

It is a used one.

It's 300 pounds.

That's it.

It's 300 pounds.

It always has been.

A super rough one, might be 250.

But honestly, they go instant.

So I want this one, cakes.

Actually, hotcakes couldn't touch PMS shifters.

You know what?

They're selling like PMS shifters.

Someone listed a PMS shifter.

And in record time, there'll be some of it sold.

Sorry, someone's already picked it up.

You posted this 60 seconds ago.

Yeah, gone.

It's already fitted to the car.

Done.

They go.

I've already sold it again.

And because Ben is just very lightly treading

around this, I'll send him one.

It's because I sold.

I don't know.

I don't send them to you anymore.

I don't like that.

That is the amount of money I die spending.

Now, here's the thing.

I was going to say 300 pounds at a time.

It's the worst amount of money to spend.

That is a meaningful amount of money.

300 pounds is not a

little amount of money, especially when you

haven't bought

that many before.

But the reason we're in court here today as

we see-- No, it doesn't.

He's picked us.

He's been going for weeks and weeks.

It's because you say no to buy one.

And then the next day, thing goes,

just want a PMS, man.

Just wish I hadn't.

It was funny there was some available.

If someone could just send me a link,

I'd buy one right here and now.

And now, after many months of that,

what has been purchased instead?

Tell the jury-- Tell the obvious

next choice.

It's an air fryer.

Ben, tell the jury.

Is that a mod?

Yeah, you can put it in the car.

I don't think it runs.

Air filter.

But what's wrong with it?

I don't understand this because as we go off

for weeks now, I'm not allowed to spend any

money inside by a PMS.

Nobody wants to say it's crispy food.

I bought air fryer.

Which, bearing in mind, was maybe a third of

the price of a PMS.

How about you make your shifts,

nice and crisp, by the

way?

Yeah, I don't know.

It's not the lack of purchasing.

It's the fact that straight away after it's--

Wish I could buy a PMS.

You know what?

We're disappointed.

Yeah.

Nice.

Just quite disappointed.

I'll be honest, right?

The reason I haven't bought one is for one

reason, and it's because when we did that,

you didn't see it on camera 'cause we didn't

really film it, but fitting that exhaust and

not making it blow was a massive issue.

It has, after my cat on it, a legal cat,

obviously.

That was a legal cat.

A very nice saver like that.

A legal.

No, a legal cat.

Oh, okay.

On it, and the way it mounts is,

how would you describe it?

It's not a sleeve, but it mounts--

I describe it as bullshit.

Imagine pressing two pieces of metal against

each other and hoping nothing leaks doesn't

work, 'cause you have to then put putty

around it and then it like, like a special

clip, and it was annoying, and it took ages,

and it's exactly where I'd have to take that

out to the-- But, I don't know if it's long.

I also don't know if I want to keep that car.

Now, I was expecting-- that's what I was

expecting, and I can respect that,

Ben.

Can I give you-- can I have some chemistry

right now, 'cause I don't know what to do?

Sure.

I want to keep the car.

Mm-hmm, great.

Now, just before we preface this,

you are speaking to someone that has just

bought an identical same car.

I'm speaking with both of you,

and Will gets bought in cars quite quickly,

but it's not on board of the car,

I want to change, but I also don't want to

get rid of that clear.

Have you had, it's exactly how it goes.

The thing is that you're not choosing which

parts to go down.

Do you get on this part?

Do you choose the 10 car path?

Yeah, I don't see that.

I can't see 10 cars 'cause I don't have any space.

The clear is not only a good car as a model,

but that specific one is a good one.

And I know, I know if I get rid of it.

No, if I get rid of it, it's a great car.

It's a great car for about $2,750 if anyone

wants to get me an offer, but it's a good

one, and it's had a lot of stuff done to it,

which would otherwise need to do the belts

that I've been putting off.

I've been doing defacing it before.

Yeah, I need to do that before the pistons

hit the valves, but you know.

Or belt leaves.

Yeah, apart from that, I know I will regret selling it.

If I sell it, however, I fancy a change.

So what I would like to do is put it in

storage somewhere and then just forget about

it until at the time where I have a house of

a driveway where I can just then dump it and

then work on it.

Are you saying you could sell it,

buy something else, and enjoy that for a while?

Yeah, because that's what I would recommend.

No, but I don't want to get,

He's gone.

No, okay, fair, but now, now look at it like this.

You sell it for $2,750.

Yeah.

Are you looking to add money to that pot?

Yes.

Okay, you are.

Yes.

So in that case, you can upgrade.

Yeah.

If you sell, 'cause I'm, if you sell the

$1.82 and look around about that same budget,

you're gonna end up back at a $1.82.

Yeah, yeah, no, it would be,

it would have to be more, like an S2000.

Okay.

But does it not make sense to perhaps like

Mike and Andrew and with the M6,

which is what I'm telling myself,

keep it, up until you save the rest of the

money, so that you can then sell Clio and go

straight into it.

'Cause if you sold it now, you're then

looking at either saving for a long while,

or going, "Oh, I've got to spend all this

money now at once."

Well, the other thing is, is that I probably

shouldn't commute to hours to work and back.

That's a great point.

So it's probably smart that I get rid of the

car entirely and then actually move closer,

but...

No, that's not fun.

That's not fun.

Just get in the cars.

Just creep, just buy a car.

I also saw it on Z4.

Have you considered buying a car?

Of what variety?

Sure, something.

Yes.

It's got B.

Okay.

I still really like, this is a controversial one.

I still really like the 2010 Z4,

the facelift on the second generation one.

It's just okay, the only thing is the one I'm

buying has an M54, and that's tough.

Is that sadness?

Yeah.

Like what gap's happened?

Ah, sorry, okay, sorry.

It's gotta be a 335 engine one,

'cause there are therefore sadness.

Yeah, I just, M54 ones are tough.

Is that what was in the 335?

Yeah, actually that one, not having one of those.

Yep, there you go.

Anyway, that's beyond the topic,

what I'm saying is that I don't want to do that car.

I think you should keep it until you have a

solid idea of what you want.

That'll never happen.

Well, then it looks like the--

It's a great car, it's a great car.

Do you want to go in?

A 130i.

I can hear that.

But the coupe one.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

A 130i.

I think you can.

I think you can.

I don't want to go in.

I know you can get one for furious and get a 135.

Which is, I'm fairly sure.

Surely.

I think you can.

I don't want that.

I might be wrong, I might be wrong.

Won't just get one, really.

I don't want that.

Yeah.

One, two, three.

One, one, six, four.

It'll chain round.

Ooh, it's a little, ooh.

No, I don't want anything.

I don't want anything.

I would like, if I have to go out to having

one car, I'm going to buy a 46 330i.

Well, there you go.

That's a good all round.

But here's a question for you,

Ben.

Yes.

Put yourself in these shoes.

No.

About 12 hours.

That's fair.

They're also quite big.

You get rid of the 182.

Yep.

You're driving an E46 330C iron and you

haven't driven one that much.

Sure.

But you get to a nice twisty road.

Yeah.

Are you as happy?

I don't know.

I'm going to say as someone who's driven

both, you're not having anywhere near as much

fun in a 182 in 90% of the cases.

However, I don't know why I said that like a politician.

We must.

We must enjoy the 330C iron.

However, if you

want to get on board with the real drive

gang, do some skids

and have junctions be fun, then there's

something worth

doing.

I just really like having one really comfy

car and

one car that is dedicated to just doing fun stuff.

'Cause also, it's now quite,

I dated the Clio for a few months and I put

like 4,000 miles on it.

And I really started, not like it,

but it didn't become special.

It gets on nerves.

It is now, what I try, what I want,

this weekend when it was sunny,

I was like, right, I'm taking the Clio.

There you go, dang.

That is the beauty of the two car garage.

I've felt great, but the second I have to

rely on that car, like if I had to,

'cause today we've driven 200 miles,

at least, I would have hated it.

X5 though, doesn't care, part of more the

issues it has.

Yeah, but the issues that you can drive on.

Yeah.

So--

Cars, anyway.

So perhaps, this is Ben's new Rule or Ruin.

It's what he's feeling that week in terms of

where he's at with his car.

I think I'll just buy it.

And choose.

Join us next week where Ben chooses his path.

When Ben chooses to crisp potatoes instead of cars.

Speaking of potatoes.

I did buy some frozen hash browns for it.

Oh, and not the potatoes.

Are they crispy?

They're crispy.

They're crispy.

Lovely thingships.

We look like a couple of potatoes today.

We've been, this part of the reason why we're

up at this neck of the woods,

is we took our new project car on a name so far.

Still a secret?

Still a secret.

Well, some people have figured it out.

Some people got, a lot of people said Lancia Delta?

No.

I know the left hand drive thing threw you

off, but it's not a Delta.

I would be very happy if it was,

but it's not.

Or me or is it?

No.

And also, we're not trying to keep the secret

because we're, it's a game or anything.

It's just that we don't wanna post a video

and then something happen where the cast go

away for a few weeks a month doing

49:51 Project Car Ice Blasting

work that we can't do or film and then you guys wait.

So, we're not trying to keep it secret from you.

Don't worry, we will post at the moment where

we know there's a talk timeline that you guys

will get the good content.

But yeah, we were.

So, we were at the Ice Blasters,

which I mean, we've heard a fair amount a bit.

Yep.

Fair amount about because they've worked with

other YouTubers, that kind of thing.

I dropped the message and said,

"Yo, our thing is from the '90s."

And he is-

Cross the underneath.

Cross the underneath.

He is rusty underneath.

And we need it, we, when it cleaned,

basically, 'cause it's covered in mud.

Why would, why would-

That's why it didn't mud.

I think it caught, bring it to us.

It doesn't have an engine in it.

Today, we've just been blasting.

Straight blasting like that.

Just blasting its underside,

non-stop.

And that car has been so caked in dirt.

Obviously, it has to go somewhere.

It's ice blasting is amazing.

And I think it isn't complete mapping.

I think it found where it wanted to go.

Yeah.

And where it wanted to go, was it our hair and eyes?

(laughs)

Air eyes face, or soup bin who was filming.

Just getting absolutely domed in the corner.

You're saying, "Ben hasn't showered."

We got back to it.

You got back and the first thing they did was

hop in the shower.

Not again.

(laughs)

I saw your brain computing that even.

(laughs)

Although, on adding, our Airbnb does have two

showers in the same room.

Two showers, so we could have.

We could have been dead on.

They both showered, I haven't showered hence

why I look dirty.

But we'll put a couple of pictures on the

screen of what we, of our faces.

We were caked.

It was so much dirt.

It was the fact where I actually got

concerned for like the camera gear.

I had to put what I had to disappear for a

bit and like, take it all apart and clean it

all 'cause I thought we were gonna actually break stuff.

But Ben made the joke today that at least I,

well, both of us to be fair,

all of us look like a potato that had been

freshly pulled from the ground.

We're gonna move on to the forum,

which is a section we like to do as often as possible.

We give you guys commenting the chance to ask

us a truly afflicted car nerds,

as you can kind of tell from this podcast,

answer question to us.

So Ben, do you have a question?

Well, first of all, I can today,

'cause we're in the air.

Airbnb and not the unit, I can reach.

Oh, Ben, you go in the button.

Here we go, sports fans.

Here we go.

Here we go.

Lovely to see.

Lovely to see.

Now, what's your question?

This is from on YouTube, Natalie B942.

Lovely.

Genuine question for you, and maybe for all

of the creamers, that's painful.

Oh, that's tough.

That is not a bad face.

We're not gonna call the fan base that I don't pick.

If you'd like to call yourself that is a bad

face, sure, but I'm not sure we will.

What things could a non-slash casual car

person look at and ask a seller for when

buying a used car, i.e.

oil spots on the drive equals bad,

full service history equals good,

less can about change if older/high mileage.

What are the important ones that I could help

find a bad car and what I walk away from?

I think there are two classes.

There is like a physical side that's about

the car itself.

And then another side that's,

I guess you're not emotional,

but you call it like what things you can

glean from the owner.

The ones from the car ones from the owner.

Practical things, brake discs,

checking brake discs.

I always like to do that.

Check if there's a lip on the brake disc.

Have a look at the meat on the pads.

If one side is mega thin, the other side's

thick, you might have a caliper that's

sticking or someone has only done one side.

You can gather evidence, if that makes sense.

You get a gut.

I do believe there is a gut feeling around

buying a car, but that is normally because of

the factors when you, if you get there and

the seller is not formal, but you know,

like it's not.

You haven't said I'm coming at three o'clock

to see the car and they turn up at four.

All those kinds of things can affect it.

And you know, if they're storing the car

somewhere, naff, or they're like,

oh, sorry.

Yeah, the car's stored somewhere else.

I need to go and get that.

There are lots of little things like that

where you start to not trust the seller.

There's always those kinds of things and it

gives you a gut feeling.

The E55 versus the XFR are the perfect flip

end of the coin on buying a car.

Turn up the E55 late.

Wrong parts as listed in the description,

no knowledge of stuff, didn't know where the

service history was, all that sort of stuff.

I'm gonna beat you down on price,

not because I want to, but because there are

so many question marks over this car,

for it to be interesting for me,

I need to be at this price.

If it doesn't work for you, fine.

Completely, if you don't want to take the

money, I completely get it, that's up to you.

Meanwhile, the XFR answered all your questions.

We turned up, the car was there,

it was cold, he said, I haven't started it today.

Any questions you have, he stood away from

the car, while we looked around it,

he wasn't trying to butt in,

we went for a drive, he said,

do you want me to go over this bump,

do you want me to check this?

Okay, we'll swap over, you drive it,

so that when we came to negotiate,

you went, I don't, as you described,

so other than this small thing,

I'll give you your money.

Yeah, even like, I really hate when you go

and look at a car and it's dirty.

I don't, that's just not, it's just not dumb.

I want to see the car in its best.

It's possible form.

Also, even if you're the seller,

if you're the seller, clean the car,

make it look presentable.

It's how you sell something.

Of course someone is already making a

judgment if you get there and the cars in a,

in a bush or a hedge or the batteries flat,

that kind of stuff.

There's lots of, I don't really think there

are, there is a long list of things,

but they all sort of, collate into one big gut feeling.

It's also, it's marketing 101,

make something appealing to someone.

Yeah.

Like when we went to go and look at my M3,

you turn up, it's under a car cover,

beautifully let you pull it off and it's

shiny under there.

Of course I want that.

Yeah.

Of course I do.

If I turn up and it is in a hedge,

I'm already going, oh, this doesn't,

I don't want to be seen in, this doesn't

appeal to me.

Yeah.

So I'm not into it.

But as on a flip side, if you're buying

questions, again, like anecdotally,

how long have you had the car?

From that you can work out, okay,

well, if you've had it two weeks,

why you follow up question, why selling it then?

Yeah.

If they've had it six years,

okay, well, clearly you quite like the car,

why are you selling it then?

I like to ask, I always like to ask,

it's one that works quite often,

I've said this before, if you were going to

keep it, what else would you do?

56:14 Forum Question and Insurance Discussion

Because then that will bring out stuff that

they're not going to mention in the end,

because they don't, you know,

they don't want to be too anal about it.

But there's probably something that they're

thinking of their head, or if I kept it,

I should probably do this, probably do this.

What other stuff, physically?

I can't say I will go that into it.

Tires, how low tires are.

And what tires?

Sometimes like, if you are going,

it

depends on what car it is, but for me,

it's most cars.

If

you're going to see a car and someone has

slapped budgets

on there.

I mean, you could buy, some people could buy

part one, Michelin's, that are just the same,

but they've at least still tried to buy

something of quality.

Whereas if you go there, four different

tires, they've got gouges out of them.

And then you can see how they've driven it.

If all the wheels occur, you can tell how

they've treated it.

Yeah.

Also, I actually quite like letting them,

I will just as happily drive first,

but when they drive first, I quite like to

see how they drive it.

Yeah.

Because especially if the car's just warming

up or it's a little bit cold and they start

ragging it around, I know how you drive.

I know who you are.

I've got your number pal.

Whereas if I've had it a few times before

when they're warming up, they started the car

and he goes, "Oh, we'll go out in a minute.

We'll just let it warm."

a little bit more.

Yeah.

Good.

I like that.

That's clean.

That's good work.

That's very nice.

But yeah, I can't think of what else.

And a part of it is in car buying stuff

you're going to make mistakes.

You're going to buy a car that you thought was great.

You're going to get it home,

spot more things.

That's normal.

Yeah, absolutely.

Even if there are cars that you'll buy that

are very, very clean, these are used cars.

And if you're paying absolutely through those

for stuff, you're going to be buying cars

that are used when you go to wash it,

when you go to do whatever to it,

take a big picture of it, take it out to the

shop, whatever.

I didn't even notice that little dent.

In the sun, I've now noticed there's a little

ding in the door.

There's little bits like that.

Normal.

Absolutely normal to miss stuff like that.

But just do as much looking as you can almost

feel rushed.

Even if the server isn't trying to rush you,

until you feel rushed, and you're like,

"Oh, I'm taking up this person's time.

I don't want to just take your time."

Have a good old look at that thing.

I always used to struggle with it going

silent while I'm looking at car,

because then I feel like, "Well,

they're just watching me do something."

So you look to then say more stuff,

and then you don't end up asking the

questions you want to ask.

Here's something I do.

I will walk around, usually on my phone.

I used to have a notebook, and I would just

write things down that were either something

I wanted to ask the seller, or just something

of note for negotiation.

Because you don't want to get to the other

side by the car and go, "I forgot to ask about that."

And then it's either too late,

or you ask them, and they go,

"Oh, yeah, no, that's bad."

"Oh, God damn it."

A big one for me, not for many people,

but if someone's pulling out service history,

I like that.

Yeah.

Because I bought a few, I bought a E38,

I bought before the seven series,

I bought, again, this was like an eBay

auction thing, I wasn't expecting much.

And there was like some service history

loosely stashed in the glove box.

Some of it as well as some old V5s were loose

in the driver's door pocket.

He was like, "Oh yeah, there's some of this."

I was like, "This is not a service."

I went through that, and there was actually

very good service history.

But just, and it's like, I had some--

There was a place through that and gone,

'cause a lot of those cars are now bought by

enthusiasts or people who understand,

if you said, "Look, there's lots of receipts here.

"There's like a rebuilt ape."

Like, stuff that would be important--

At the matters, yeah.

That wouldn't, you know, there's stuff like

that, whereas when you're buying from someone

who hasn't taken any care to do that,

it's like, "Well, do you really care much about this?"

But yeah, that's a good question.

This is a cost of things.

A good question.

And if you're someone who buys lots of cars,

stick your kind of tips in the comments as

well for people that maybe aren't,

afflicted for them to use a reference.

Start a thread.

Carpspiracy, do we have one?

Yes.

Oh, here we go.

Now, Ben, I know you're close to expiry.

I think I expired hours ago.

Let's push through for this final one.

I'm asking you, everything you just said,

I think you said forwards in my head.

I think we said quite a lot of words,

actually.

You did, but it felt like four.

All Ben heard was, air fries are a good investment.

Guys, do not modify your car,

fry your frozen chips.

Buy simply one car, no more.

Air fries are great.

They are quite good.

So true, that's why I chose to buy one over a PMS.

It's tough.

Matthew Fote, 2135, I assume,

name Matthew Fote, 1 through 2,

1 through 4 was

taken.

Very good, Ben.

Insurance companies want some right off cars,

even if they are not beyond repair,

they do this so they can get more new cars on

the road and get rid of old ones,

brackets, insurance rates are higher for new

cars, and therefore more money for them.

Interesting.

You know, I bought it.

I don't like it.

That's interesting, but at the same time,

they cost themselves more money to write off those cars.

It's true, and why would you not then,

without logic, just make an insurance company

for only young people?

That's more expensive too.

That's true.

Or insurance company for my Nan only.

It's called Ben's Nan Insurance.

Just doing that.

They pay out four times a year.

Just can't drive anymore, must you?

Big pressure.

Great.

Great.

It's a fence, I'm just trying to think.

At least late hour.

There doesn't have to be some big discussion.

It can be if we think it's plausible,

it's plausible.

I think it is, there is something,

there's probably something in it.

There's something there.

So we're saying that they are writing off.

So you crash car, right, close your eyes.

Here we go.

If I close, if I close my eyes,

I will crash my car.

There you go, perfect.

You close your eyes.

You close your eyes, and you crash car,

and you're very, very, very,

very, very upset.

Okay?

Correct.

You can insurance your car.

Which car?

Now you crashed your M3, and you crashed your M3.

You crashed your M3, you crashed your Clio.

Are you?

Quite pleased.

Okay.

Little end to that.

But they're only gonna pay you out the base

price of the car.

Not all of the rebuilds.

You crashed your M3, you're very upset.

Okay.

You're thinking, I find no worry about it.

And you think, I can just fix it for cheap.

They can pay me out 200 quid from your panel,

whatever.

They write it off.

Right.

This is gone.

They say to you, you must now buy a Lamborghini Revuelto.

I don't think they can say.

The cause, and that's what you're gonna say.

Now, I guess, I get it for most people,

for normal humans, normal functioning,

you know, run-of-the-mill humans.

They go, oh, drats, crumbs, they say,

they say, oh, blee, crumbs, and then they go

out and they take their insurance check and

they buck you car.

Meanwhile, weirdos like us, do what I'm

saying, I'm saying, that's great.

300 grand, that you've just paid me out for

my 3-1-6 BMW, no, for my mercy lago.

And I'm gonna say, I'll buy that mercy lago

back for 50,000 pounds, or whatever the price

is, it's usually at a very small percentage

of the cost of the car.

Your insurance usually gives you the chance

to buy your car back cheaper than if it went to auction.

Just to get rid of it, they pay you out your

money, have a car, go off, get your insurance

somewhere else.

How about this?

Fuck, just like that.

Perhaps more plausible, they write car off,

they give you the property.

They write your car off.

But so that you go and buy another one,

but because you've written a car off,

because you have crashed, or you have been

bumped into, your insurance goes up,

because it always does.

You've claimed, you've made a claim,

therefore your insurance has gone up.

You're no more likely, if someone's bumped

into you, why are you more likely to have

claimed, but they get more money out of you.

You're more likely to be stolen.

This is thieves and insurance working

together to steal your money for insurance

and steal your cars.
