0:00 Introduction and Ben's New Clio

But whenever I wanted to pull you in the way...

AHA!

Sorry!

Oh, that's my belt!

The manipulator returns!

Oh, hell no!

Oh my goodness!

What do you say to Will's bet?

What's the bet?

So I'll do one mod before the first frosting.

What is the Thinking Man's meal deal?

And I'd like you to sell it to me.

Hello, and welcome back to the 93rd Cars Rule

Everything Around Me podcast.

It's getting late.

It's going up in the nearly hundreds.

With my cell phone with William to my left

and Benjamin to your yes.

Hello!

He's just there behind the camera.

At the beginning of every single podcast,

we answer the question whether cars rule or

ruin things around us this week.

Benjamin, I'm going to start with you.

It's always me first, isn't it?

Because there's been, there's news afoot.

The yellow Clio has arrived.

It's just behind us.

It's the audio listeners.

It's a bit washed out.

Yeah.

No, it was here.

We filmed a video with it today.

And yeah.

Where is it now?

It's now be aligned.

It's gone.

We did.

Yes, it's done now.

So in theory, I can drive it

home.

So you have, you got the yellow Clio.

Also, we got a call from evolutionary to

works earlier because he wasn't sure he

didn't have Ben's number.

And the moment I said, oh, it's Adam from

evolutionary to what it's calling Ben Fros.

Then went.

Yeah.

I find out.

You were very scared.

It was like a dog that said his name called me.

It looked as a bit of side eye and goes like,

he just went, in a car's fine.

It's all good.

It's ready to pick up.

So you can have a car soon, Ben.

I am.

It needs something to do with the boot

because the boot won't open.

But we have worked out a workaround and I

have a carpet coming for it.

Lovely.

And then it is actually good to use what I

can use for that.

Are they, are you going to be a shoes off

kind of guy in the car?

Yeah, I'll probably go just socks in the most.

But I dug the mirror, really.

That's what, turns out that's what he was

doing it for.

He just had new carpet spin.

Exactly.

He gets in the car and kicks his feet and

then kicks his shoes off.

I've done that.

Kicking my feet, so I get dusty.

But in it's, when it's dusty,

when it's wet.

Now when it's all dusty and you walk through

gravel or something.

You think dust is sticking to your shoe,

but not when you tap them together?

No, but you know when you...

Are you walking through chalk or talcum powder?

Out here, all the stones we have,

now it's very dry, they get all dusty.

So when...

If you just hoover the carpets in your car,

when you get in, I've got my feet a little tapped.

I put it in the carpet, it's not necessarily dusty.

You've never hooved your carpets,

you don't hoover your car.

I have fenders, nothing to cars.

I do.

I'll do something we'll get later on.

But yes, it's a rule for me because my clear

is, in theory it could go, I want to use it

for a few weeks, get to know it,

see if it's got any issues, and then I'll

start messing with it.

Because it needs to be used.

It does.

I've never said before, I can't remember how

much you mentioned it.

I didn't get to use it much,

John didn't get to use it much,

and the previous owner sold it because it kept breaking.

So I think you will lift this curse,

Ben.

I think you're going to fight for it,

you're going to do it.

Many things changed, so we should hope and

pray and cross our...

It's got a nice place.

You know how I don't like to deal with annoying cuts?

Oh, so you've bought a twice-written off...

Sorry for the rice crashed.

Renault Clio Acaba has famously caused us to

all issues many times.

Yeah, but I like them a lot.

I'm going into a positive mindset,

so it's going to blow.

It is yellow.

It is very yellow.

It's so yellow.

And it's so many yellows as well.

It's such a great car.

Yeah, I'm very excited for it.

It's liquid yellows.

Which is, yeah.

But I can't wait.

So that's my rule.

All for the week.

Hell yeah, William.

Let us, let us, you know what,

I'm just going to mix it out for a while.

Oh, I have a ruin.

Okay.

Well, actually that doesn't make sense.

3:41 Rule or Ruin: Will's Issues with His Car

Because most of all, it's been playing up.

That's odd.

Yeah,

they do that.

Yeah, no, but I have been using it every day

and the purpose has been to us to find these issues.

And a

couple have come up.

And to be fair, for the most part,

it's been fine, considering it hasn't been

driven in a long time.

I think I'm coming up on a thousand miles now

in that car in about a week or so.

a week and a half.

But just over the last four or five days,

it's been a couple of little issues,

not starting, which I've been told.

It did it once or twice when I first got it,

when it was here, where you would turn the

key and you get a click.

It's a classic bit of starter motor,

Jay Perry.

Yeah.

It could be, I was talking to my dad about

this, so it could be how you say relay,

yeah, or something.

So that I must check and rule out because

that'll be a very nice fix if it is a relay.

Not a relay, it's a starter motor.

And that's easy.

It's not easy or cheap.

Okay.

Now ideally, you take the engine out.

But I have heard of people that can do it with it.

So that's another, that will be another

reason to pull the engine.

Reason number 50.

It was kind of in my, it was in there,

but I thought, well, I'll just wait until it gets worse.

It's getting worse.

Okay.

I am driving it over the weekend,

stopped it for you.

But even this week, even this morning,

coming in to work, I went to start it four or

five turns of the key.

number clicks, couple of nothing.

So it's like the one in seven two.

Yeah, just doing that.

And then we'll do that.

And then I sort of rocked it back and forth

for a bit in gear.

And it went, no problem mate.

I'll start random misfiring.

Okay.

All right.

Just random little misfires here and there.

It was just, I was going down a hill in High

Wicom, famous hill.

And it just started popping and banging like mad.

So I just had to pull over.

Everyone else went, that's a wicked tune you

got on that.

And it's been High Wicom as well.

Bloody hell.

They were like, who tuned that?

number.

I'm popping and banging like mad.

I'll turn it on.

It's fine.

And then every now and then,

just a little engine like here and there.

I know roughly what they are.

I've got a few codes, like E.J.R.

Valve, which I don't even know where it is.

I need to find that where that is or how much

ridiculous, how much engine out that will be.

But other than that, it's great.

Do you want to talk about it?

The thing you may have bought.

Oh, my number plate.

It is.

I have bought a number plate,

but I'm not going to say what it is yet.

I'll wait till it's actually here.

I've got it is confirmed.

I have bought it because Willie's going up sale.

Sorry.

Yellow.

Yellow willy might be for sale.

Oh, might be for sale.

I will probably have to sell it with this

other number plate if I decide to keep it.

But it's a very, very cool plate.

It's quite niche.

Will is quite specific.

F1 confirmed.

I've bought Mercy.

No, it isn't that.

It's a really cool plate.

It's very specific to a yellow Mercy logo in

particular that has been on the television.

Blake Sandberg's one.

I've bought Blake Sandberg.

I have a plate made up.

We'll talk about it more, but I'm very

excited about that.

It was kind of a, I actually asked,

as a chap named Sam, who's helped us out a

few times with a DVLA related J-Pree.

Not really.

Anything number plate related.

And I said, do you know where that number plate is?

I need to find out where this number plate is.

It's not registered to a car,

and I couldn't find it for sale.

He came back five minutes later with it for

sale on the website.

But in fairness, you couldn't find it anywhere.

You couldn't Google search it,

but he had a bigger power than me.

The number plate thing is cool,

they're expensive, but overall,

kind of a ruin, because I know what's on the horizon.

There's also, we won't explain it now.

We have to wait until it comes into fruition,

but it potentially knocks it into our next

collecting cars that you'll see next month.

You've just seen the girl collecting cars

won't go out.

We haven't seen it out yet.

I can only assume there were creamers in the comments.

Oh, oh, and there's, if you haven't seen it,

go look at, there's, we feel a little,

we feel a little a reference to you guys in there.

Oh, there is.

We feel a little cream reference in there in the video.

I think I'm assuming a lot of you have

already seen it, but shout out to the

creamers for supporting us again and watching

our little moonlighting project on the side.

Mine, I'm going to say it's a rule.

Yeah, it's a rule for me.

We, on Sunday, we went, Will and I went to a

Duke of London meet.

I've never been to one before.

It was in London, the

7:50 Duke of London Meet-Up and Tuscan Discussion

outskirts of Brentford.

We invited Ben, Ben, come because obviously

he wouldn't, not being paid to be there.

No, it's in London.

I don't live in London.

We got delivered on that day.

Oh, it was available that day.

Yeah, so you could have met us and then gone,

but yeah.

Could have had a lovely day with boys,

had a look at the Clio, but could have no

money on the table.

No deal to be had.

It was in London.

No business to be made.

It was London.

Yeah.

Well, I think he's got too many business deals there.

Oh, exactly.

I just didn't want to go on the weekend.

I drive on the M force so regularly.

I'd like to just have a day off.

But so no, we went to, we went to Duke of London.

Very, very cool event.

We even, they even said, hey,

you know, you could do, you could do a live podcast here.

And we said, don't give us ideas.

Brackets, you can give us ideas.

That's pretty, sounds pretty cool.

So we may look at doing one of those semi soon.

And I took the Tuscan.

Tuscan is happy.

Tuscan absolutely covered in,

in shite of all, of all kinds.

I just, I just leave it dirty because it's

cool to me.

It's cool with it.

I love it.

And I do take care of it, but it's just cool.

It looks cooler when it's covered in dead bugs.

Looks like it's been used.

So I took that.

And also the car that I spoke about last week

is still a foot that maybe by now I might

have reached a deal.

I'm gonna be able to talk about it next week.

But I'm gonna say rule, just a small little rule.

Two rules and a ruin.

Easy little rule.

Lovely.

As always, let us know we haven't seen as

many rules or ruins in the comments recently.

Always let us know.

I think, you know what, they'll shout out to

the creamers.

Usually on a YouTube channel,

I seem to see people comment,

they're like, I did this today.

Nobody responds.

In our comments, people go, that's kind of sick.

It's community.

Someone the other day said, I'm just past my test today.

saying, yeah, good luck, enjoy.

That's cool.

Shout out to the creamers.

And then as soon as we release you onto the

internet, you turn into wild animals.

You go, this is not a friendly event.

We'll talk about that in a minute,

'cause we've seen some more social media

posts that you've all decided to go,

you know what, let's mess up this comment.

We're taking over.

Also, not every yellow bus, yellow goes,

Will.

Yes.

Please keep that in mind.

That is what I was gonna, so,

far longer posted, which I think is where my

car might have come from, or at least we

looked after by posted.

The car, it's yellow, I should all go,

and the comment, I liked it,

that's it.

Yeah.

That's what I did, I liked it.

There was people saying, I've sold my car,

that's my car, I've bought a second car,

and then there were the joking ones,

which were about Debbie Bingles,

my name is William, things related to Ben,

Barbados Ben, Ben Bing on holiday,

it being a parts car.

Yeah, we have possibly the most militant,

you guys know.

No, just podcast audience, just audience,

just community.

You are a militia.

And we, I think I've said this before,

I'm fully prepared for you to turn on us one

day and consume us, that's fine,

that's the name of the game.

That's how nature will take its course.

Ashes to ashes.

So turn us to the dirt.

Shall we, oh no, that's what I was gonna say,

sorry, the speaking of Barbados Ben,

Richard Porter said he famously said,

he sent us lorries.

Yeah, lorries.

And then I played that, I played that the

next day, the moment it came through,

I thought, we've got to get this on the podcast.

He said to me, I got an email from Richard

Porter that said, if you've not played this

to Will and the mayor of Barbados,

I've tweaked it a little bit and made Ben's

bit at the end better, I think.

I'll probably sling this off on my bandcamp

and the streamers next week if I've got a sec.

So A, lovely to see that Richard knows you as

your formal title.

I've been there one time.

I went there one time on holiday.

Okay, well, yeah, I mean, to purchase it.

No, no, just to go there for,

I went there for four, eight days.

I did, to be anointed.

It's a lovely place though, you should go.

Oh, it's supposed to be the case.

He's getting paid for the marketing now.

But secondly, the Richard Porter,

he made the song, sent it to us,

a joke song about our stupid little podcast,

and then went, that could be better.

I got redo that, and then redid it.

So in fact, the one that you heard on the

podcast last week will not be,

we gave you an early accent.

I was a V1, I was a sample, not a sample.

A bootleg.

That was cool.

I don't know.

What do they call it?

That's going to get copied onto nothing.

That was a demo.

Someone's going to sell it in KFC in Slough High Street.

Did you ever buy something for KFC?

I couldn't say.

Did you ever sell something?

Just buy chicken, never sold.

Okay, but bought potentially.

Any chicken?

I bet you, I put money

on it being 57.

Can you play?

I can't confirm.

No, because this will now be,

that they can go and find, whatever the

creamers can go and find is the new release.

I skimmed through it, there's not too much

difference, but there's, it's definitely,

it's evolved.

It's really the thinking man's version of lorries.

A man out there bought something at night and

put it on

vinyl.

Yeah, so he's got to follow it up.

Really?

L.P.

64 era.

I have a vision of, wow.

I have a vision of Richard Porter in a very

dark, sort of M&M style, or like Stan,

dark room, looking down at this paper going,

it's not right.

I just

13:04 Richard Porter's Song and Musical Creation Process

can't get the end of this, right?

And it'll be a story in years ago,

this took in 30 years to perfect this tune.

I would like to know, Richard,

if you are, if you fancy responding,

I'd love to know where you create these

tunes, 'cause I don't know what's funnier,

either you have a legit full setup of like

massive like studio monitors and like all the

dials and the buttons and stuff that they

have in studios, or it's just not that much.

Yeah, it's a funny place.

Is it funny as half of that?

Or is it funnier just to have like a laptop

in your kitchen that you make it on?

Or he's a massive enthusiast of that.

I know the synthesizer, so I think I would

love to know from Richard if any of the beats

or anything is made on an old school piece of equipment.

That's cool.

That would make me very happy.

I'd love to know, 'cause I don't know if it's

funnier for it to be on a laptop or if it's a

full setup, 'cause either way it's funny.

Yeah, it is good.

Either way it's funny, so.

I think it's not so major.

We don't like the meme, okay,

let's go, I think it's made like that.

That thing you tap on.

Oh, I know nothing about how you make music.

No, he's doing it on the primary school keyboard.

DJ, that's what it's on.

Also, can we get a, you know when you have an

album and they lay out, like track by track,

it's almost like a story, it brings you through it.

Of course.

It's going out beat song and what down,

I want an acoustic version.

So wait, hold on.

I wanna like, Richard Porto playing the

guitar and then it's just Laurie's.

But he's singing Laurie's.

Or we could jump in and do a verse.

Okay, a remix would be nice.

Yeah, yeah.

Or we could jump in and...

Yeah.

Like Evichey or David Getta.

Also, will the live version be different?

Will you mix it live on stage?

I will let us know all these things.

My favourite part, Richard Porto is just

gonna respond with, it's just a joke man,

stop.

The Laurie's, the bad, bad, bad,

bad, bad.

That's the best part.

That's great.

I got that and I was like, this isn't a joke anymore.

No, this is good.

This is actual music, folks.

And if you aren't aware, if you'd like to

search up, or you missed last week's episode,

so search up, ADO 88, Laurie's and you'll

find Laurie's and then also listen to

tractors at night.

Of course, you got through on the classics.

I wanna say it's got like eight,

almost 80,000 streams on Spotify.

Crazy.

That's so wild.

What are you guys doing?

Who's listening to it?

I'm listening to it.

Let's get a gold plaque tracked.

Right, what we got on anecdotes and things.

Now, let's get on to a piece of news that's old.

Bizzarene, or Bizzarene, I think is the

actual word you said.

Bizzarene is a name some of you might be

familiar with because that is what Bizzarene,

or the old Lamborghini V12 was called because

that is the man who made it Giotto,

Bizzarene.

That's great.

That's his name.

So a man who originally started out doing the

Ferrari 250 GTO, then left Ferrari,

went to Lamborghini and designed the

Bizzarene V12, which was with it from the

mirror all the way up to the Mercilago and Mercilago SV.

They were also, he was also designing cars in

the '60s and never actually got to build it

and has recently actually started a proper,

well, started actually deciding to make cars.

They're coming out with a modern-ish car,

which I think is called Giotto,

and then there is this one, which is the

5,300, which is, it looks like that,

but it's new.

Yes.

So it's an old '60s design, but it is based

on its carbon fiber, like a semi-monoclock,

I think they call it.

It does have an old Chevy V8 in it,

but still, it's all very modern stuff.

So they did manage to make some Bizzarene

GTs, so that looked like that back in the day

as race cars, but they never got to fully

realize the one that they were,

they wanted to make.

Also, essentially in charge of doing the Isso

Griffo, which is the, I think for me,

my favorite looking '60s, like,

it's not really an Italian car,

it's an American engine.

I think it's the best muscle car,

but it's Italian.

So having this back is cool.

I think it's just a cool looking thing.

It's imagine a mirror, kind of like a mirror

type beat, but with a, it's got an Italian mustache.

It's got an Italian mustache.

It's got a concoction of lots of different '60s.

I think it's Chizarro.

I think so, yeah.

The design is Chizarro, which is really cool.

It has Luigi from Cars' Mustache.

Okay.

I bet I'm gonna show it to you.

It feels like, it feels a little bit

stereotypical Italian.

Okay.

That's a GTA car.

Yeah.

That is a GTA car.

But it's a very cool looking car.

I like it a lot.

But I didn't, I hadn't heard much about it.

I watched the Harry Mack car video and I was

on it and I thought, what the hell?

This is new.

Yeah.

Basically, obviously it's using older stuff.

So it's an older, it's a Chevy small block,

the A, a Tremant gearbox and a few other

bits, but it's just a cool thing to come up with new.

I think that's rather than where they are,

they're meant to be coming out with a modern

thing, a new bits or anything.

The old one is, I think 24, they were gonna

make this something small amount.

Yeah, it's a really low numbers,

really old numbers.

But a new one would be cool.

Give me some more Italian design that's nice.

But this is what I wanna see,

I wanna see old, like that looks old.

It looks old and obviously it is an old

design, it's still using somewhat old

technology in terms of engine and whatever else.

But they're using carbon and I'm assuming

it'll have better brakes than a 60s car.

That's what I wanna see.

That's what we're campaigning for.

We, the people who will not be buying them

are campaigning for changes to be made in the

market, which does not help or benefit the

people that are buying them in any way,

shape or form.

In terms of money, we have the money,

but we can talk about it on a podcast and I

do think we're right.

I think there are more, I think there are

people with the money that wanna buy this

stuff, but I don't know, I don't know.

I don't know.

Old men shout at clouds, episode 93,

someone makes good things.

Should we say we, now we went to,

was a collection the other day.

Now this may happen, this might not come from

fruition, but we went to a collection the

other day and became quite chummy with the owner.

He didn't want to be on camera or anything,

but we got to talking and he liked our vibe,

we liked his vibe.

And he said, "I wanna build a cool old Mercur cell.

"What if I give you that car and I give you

some budget "and you just

18:50 Potential Car Build Project for YouTube

gonna build it for me?"

So we wouldn't get to keep the car,

it's not our car, it would just be building

it for him.

We're essentially becoming a backyard model

for--

Put my ride.

Put my ride.

For people with money.

But the people being pimped are paying.

Yeah, which is--

No, not being pimped.

Well, yeah.

Either way, yeah.

So I'm interested to see what the gang think

of that as a YouTube kind of approach,

'cause they won't be our cars,

we can't give them away at the end,

it will go off and we'll probably never be

seen again unless they want to bring it to an event.

But we would get to build something that we

would never usually have the funds.

And what the healthy budget?

Yeah, the funds that we would be able to build.

So I think it's a 90s Merc SL,

the one with the Giuliani engine.

the one with the basis of the Giuliani engine

that you can make sound silly.

So what pricked out is somewhat and with a

nice budget that we could make like a really cool bit.

And his only, his only stipulation was I want

it to be 80s spec cool.

So you, the juices are flowing.

My brain is going to fire in on all 12 cylinders.

Yeah, obviously we've had a million messages

from people saying, "Would you like to take

my car and modify it?"

But this one's slightly different because it's cool.

There's budget as well.

Yeah, because the trees we don't need to pay

our own money.

(laughs) But what we got next?

You've been here rather confusingly.

I, so bum, new kettle.

Ben.

Mm-hmm.

Will.

Other than cars, well you don't

really care about cars anyway.

What am I catching stress?

What's your ulterior passion,

Will?

It's watches.

I'd say watches.

Ben planes.

I'd say you're quite in the planes.

Ben, you like watches, you have a few.

I have a few watches.

I will say, I like, well, I don't know much

about watches, but I always wanted one watch.

We get a lot of people asking us to talk about them.

I actually have messages last night.

Ben, what is your favourite watch you own?

And what are you wearing right now?

I'm wearing a Timex E-line reissue.

A C-line.

It's like a, I wear this to the unit because

it's--

That's a B-Y-D, isn't it?

It's quite cool looking and I don't mind

messing it up a little bit.

That's kind of what I bought it for.

Okay.

I would like to tell a very brief watch

related story that Ben will hate.

Okay, here we go.

Gabs, who does our partnerships,

came in the other day and said,

"I've got this watch for sale,

Ben, do you want to buy it?"

And Ben just said, "Yeah, I'll buy that."

Straight off the bat.

Where is a car?

We have to submit written documentation to Ben.

Ben's like in order for him to go,

"Look, I'll read it, I'll come back tomorrow."

Ben's like the tough, in general.

He goes, "This is not correct,

go away."

I'm not watching you really,

too.

Does it tell the time?

I'll take it.

I bought one I want you to know about either.

What?

I don't know where.

When?

Where?

Last week.

How much was it?

No, I'm not telling you that.

It wasn't anything crazy.

Was it a Rolex or is it a Spingingle?

It was a watch.

My favorite.

It tells the time.

It tells the time.

It's more of a dress watch.

Okay.

Now it's a tank star watch.

I recently bought my first ever watch in a while.

That doesn't really make sense,

does it?

First watch I've had in about 15 years since

I was a child, since I had a little Casio.

Because I wanted something as a cool TDC who

did well, this is a nice thing.

But I've got a second watch.

What a fact.

I was gifted it by our friend,

Evian.

I now have a watch collection.

I've brought it with me.

What the f?

Here you go.

Look at this.

Can you--

The audio listeners, can you please tell me

what you're looking for?

So that is, I'm gonna assume,

Mark II, Clio themed watch.

What?

Official Renault watch.

Wow.

In fact, it looks, now it does look like a

Mark II, but it's actually a Mark I,

is it?

Okay.

That it looks 100% like a Mark II.

That's a Mark II.

But it's not back.

That watch came out in 1993.

But that's a Mark II.

I thought so too.

And then I started looking at it up,

and no, apparently it is.

So it is from 1993, Renault released as a

product promo for the Mark I,

Cleo, for, sorry, for the Bebop edition,

Cleo.

They released a watch with it.

It's official Renault promotional courts from

watch from 1993, late '93, early 1994.

Associated with a colorful Cleo,

Bebop special edition, hence the brushstroke

graphics, the dial carries a Mark I,

Cleo silhouette with a blue faux leather

strap and roughly a 34 millimeter case.

Oh, that's perfect size for you.

The complete, so the Bebop itself was

launched in Britain in 1994 as a colorful

limited edition based on the cheaper models.

That looks ridiculous on Will's wrist.

Could you come and put it on?

Yeah.

But so this, this is from both Will and I's

very good friend, Evian.

He saw this.

Fellow Cleo, owner.

Fellow Cleo, might he owns my old white too?

Yeah.

He saw this on Vintid, I think it was,

and he bought it and sent it to my house.

'Cause I just got, I got a message from him

saying, "What's your address?"

I was like, "What's going on?"

And then a week later, I had this package and

I had no idea what it was.

This is car people stuff.

You get a package that you don't know and you

go, "I'm gonna assume it's a car thing."

And I did it and looked at it and went,

"I don't remember this."

I'm being pranked.

I just sent a message wearing it saying,

"Was this you?"

And you're like, "Yeah, no, it was."

But how cool is that?

That is really cool.

That's my second, so that's my...

Will you wear it?

Yeah, I think I will.

I think it's, I will say, it's ever so

slightly too small for you.

It looks perfect for Ben.

It's my favourite little region.

If you or I wore it, it will look like we've

just robbed a child, although watch.

But he's a battery though.

But yeah, no, it does need a battery.

It's not.

It's not.

Even the packaging.

I'll be honest, Ben, it's been around since

1994, and it's been in the package since I've been...

It's in great condition.

So, yeah, I just wanted to flex on the Clio

Creamers a little bit, you know,

money's great, and now I've got a Clio Mark II watch.

I did look for some other examples.

There is some selling for Β£20.

Yeah, it's Β£20.

They are Β£20.

But you're talking of Renault dealer,

so you have to buy this one.

I'll have to go, and just so I can wear it in my Clio.

That's sick.

Now, I've just looked at mine.

The Mark I Clio badge was different.

That doesn't look like Mark II.

That's Mark II.

Everything I can find online says 1993 to

1994, this came out.

'Cause I looked at it, I was like,

that's a Mark II.

Either way, not very interesting for all the airport.

It's not original.

Thank you.

Our mate's investment has gone down.

I've found an identical one on eBay.

It's got, well, one day, what,

10 hours left, no bids.

38.

But it's got a buy at an hour price of Β£6.52.

Ben, you have to get one.

How about surely we all get one?

We'll cut off.

I don't have a Clio.

Until Will gets a Clio.

You know what?

Creamers.

Any creamers with a Clio, get yourself a Clio watch.

We will all wear these.

And we will synchronize our watches like some

sort of movie moment.

Even though there's actually not much you can do.

No, wait, did it move?

We are really flexing on the haters.

Oh, there's lots for sale.

There's quite a lot of them.

Β£30.

So maybe, but this one in the original

packaging in, I would say, as new condition.

Now, I am a fan of automotive related merch.

You call it a peril.

I like a 90s jacket.

A 90s car jacket.

My Land Rover jacket, I live in in the winter.

It's what I'm always in.

But a watch feels weird to me.

They are for the most part, cack.

They're sort of based on a very cheap,

Anyhow, when you go into a car dealer,

you've ever been into a dealership where

there are new cars and what such seldom seen

by people like us to be famous.

We're going to buy old Volkswagen parts.

You will normally see a clear case where

they're selling shit, branded shit,

where you can go, "Have this Volkswagen

skippers or this--"

Cuffling.

Here is some Ciac condoms or whatever it is

that you're selling.

I mean, it's mostly a bit pretty safe.

I mean, they do the same job as the big,

brands but--

Exactly.

Just to scratch off the lid and it's actually an Audi.

Anthony.

There you go.

All right, bargain.

Ben has bought one.

Lovely.

Good to see you.

Just chose, though.

How quickly is he willing to--

It was six pounds.

It was six pounds.

It's kind of cool.

That's crazy.

I want to wear it in my clear.

I'm going to consider it a cost for the car.

Can you make it a drive style where you put

the watch around the top of the steering

wheel so you can watch the seconds take place?

I want to keep it in the car.

There you go.

I think it's not, I know that's not quite

clear, but--

Some people have driving gloves,

Ben's so rich he has driving watches.

I just have a driving watch.

Specific watches for each car.

Yeah, which one goes in the reventor,

Ben?

What's your GTD watch?

Trust, trusty.

Should we find your--

We're going to need to find a Volkswagen

watch for you.

That must be awful.

I've just put a clear watch.

Well, can you get a Lamborghini watch?

I don't know if there are--

There probably is.

There are some really--

I'm never seeing ST watches,

they were dying.

Wasn't there a Lamborghini phone?

And it was horrible, like really horrible.

Yes, I think possible.

I don't like the Porsche ones.

Ben, there is a Volkswagen Golf GTI watch.

I'm just going to pull it up on eBay.

Well, it will take us some minor photo

shopping in the--

You will be--

There you go, Ben.

Oh, yeah.

The Golf GTI watch.

Yeah.

That's a tough one.

Sort of correct style, by the picture.

Can you explain that for the quality listeners?

It's sort of, I'd say at 70s inspired,

it's a sort of integrated bezel type situation.

Okay, this is Ben's so excited.

It's got--

It's got--

The on movement, it doesn't have that.

Doesn't have that a bit of court movement.

Ben said, "Shut up, I'm talking about watches."

Tom Lendthor took great pride once in telling

me about one of his Jaguar watches,

and I couldn't have cared any less.

There's something about car branded,

there's very, very few in my mind.

But you were a plastic watch.

Yeah, no.

But that's fine, because--

No, it's okay.

Ben, you've used up your five minute,

a lot of time, of watch, J.P.E.

this week.

We bought it up.

Another time.

Oh, where are my clear watch next week?

Right, clear watch is in next week.

Will, can you please acquire a automotive

themed watch for next week?

I absolutely can do that.

Okay, cool, perfect.

Will you actually do it?

Of course I bloody will.

I'll find something so cool.

And then so cool.

Next podcast, yeah?

Yeah, perfect.

Okay, watch podcast.

I'm putting it in there right now for next week.

Also, don't we have a guest next week?

No, next week.

After Jon Benson, for the next proper '94,

episode 94 is watch podcast.

Now, just one of those next thing,

Edwin, just for me, could you put on the clear watch?

I just wanna see it on your wrist.

Four mil watch.

We'll do it next week on the watch podcast,

because the audio listeners right now are

going, I'm very close to turning off.

I'm looking at my watch, guys.

Anyway, Ben, I would like to abuse you for

just five minutes.

Most of my day has been like that.

Let's do some more.

So, I have a new bet.

29:17 Bet on Ben's Future Modifications with His New Car

Yes.

For Ben.

Yeah.

And now, if you're not aware,

I made a bet with Benjamin saying that he

would not buy a car after selling his S2000

before the year was out.

Ben decided to do it from, or up to even the,

as a winter solstice or Christmas,

New Year, whatever.

Somewhere around there, some sort of medieval time.

Yeah.

That bet was, there was a parlay.

We agreed to agree on it because I sourced

your car essentially and gave it,

not gave it to you, but gifted you the

opportunity to buy his head car and you did.

So, we shook hands, like men,

and said, "That's all good.

"No L's."

No L's.

No L's.

Just a couple of minor ones,

but no major ones, no paintings,

no stained glass window.

I like another one.

And now you have the car.

I could just see it this morning.

The car pulled into this unit and we were

talking about mods.

Last week, Ben was talking about mods and

saying, "How much is that?

"I'll buy it now."

Seat and a seat sort of gear shifter.

I want them now.

I want them on my desk Monday morning.

I'll pay them the

money and I'll fit them in by midday on the sales this.

And then I was offered by our friend Ash,

a shifter at Great Value.

Fantastic value.

And I said, "Cuego Benjamin."

the shifter, "It's the one everyone buys.

"Why don't you take it?"

And he went, "In fact, can I even add to this?"

I said to before, 'cause I knew this was gonna happen.

I know young Benjamin very well,

despite in claiming that we don't know him at all.

I never claimed that.

I said, "How much would you have to spend

"for this to be interesting for you?"

And Ben gave a figure.

I said, "Okay, there's that figure."

And the figure that came in was just under that figure.

I wasn't.

Yes it was.

It was, it was, if it wasn't,

it was about the same.

It was 50 pounds less than what you said your max was.

I said, "Well, there you go."

And then went...

Nice.

What's the point of making it?

You have to have discipline here.

You can't just move the goalposts whenever it fits.

Well, so you wanted it to be more.

No, but if it's 50 pounds less.

It was 50 pounds cheap, wasn't.

It wasn't.

No, 'cause...

What was your budget?

You tell us.

I can't remember the fact.

'Cause I remember both figures.

But it's still, also, this is,

it was still a lot of money.

But you said you were comfortable with...

That amount of money.

No, I said.

Well, also, I hadn't even had the car at that point.

What I want to do with the car,

if you must know, I just want to have it.

If you must know.

I want to excuse you.

I want to drive it for at least a few weeks

and just see if there's anything wrong with it first.

Because if a big bill comes in for like 500

quid a grand.

What's he up to?

Big old William comes in.

Hello.

What am I going to do?

I've just bought a shifter and that.

I need to be able to actually fix it if it happens.

I'm going to enjoy it.

But also...

But you were the one that said,

"Yeah, let's do it.

Find me one of those and I'll buy it."

Find me seats.

I don't care what the question is.

I actually didn't say find me.

And get me a Rolex while you're at it.

Would like that.

I can't afford that.

So, okay.

But then some seats also came up today.

So I want to make a new bet.

I haven't quite decided on the timeline for it.

And I'm actually willing to

let you dictate the timeline of this bet.

I think you will buy a maximum of two modifications.

That's not fair.

You can't use that.

Oh.

In the meantime, I want to do a shifter and seats.

Okay.

So that's what I said.

But the car's already quite one.

Oh, okay.

Fine, that's easy to make.

You will do a...

(laughing)

Ben not doing things for his own enjoyment,

but instead to win bets.

Wait, no, hang on.

But what do you consider a modification?

Any change that's different from the car

right now, other than--

So I feel all of the things--

Anything, things, or liquids.

So let me tell you what to show her about.

Well, he wouldn't tell me to show her about it.

And that's not true.

But Ben tells everything to do.

I do.

Does that matter?

Yeah, no, Constable, no, no,

I did, no, I did do that, no,

please.

I've got the SD card here if you want to come

pick it up from my hand.

What is wrong with declaring the mods?

That's why it has a feature to declare them.

Carry on.

Anyway, so I don't think you will modify,

I actually don't think you'll modify at all,

not one bit.

And I got that almost confirmed to me today

when you refused to buy anything.

And then also when there was one very small

noise that cleared me today,

and I saw your face, you went white in the

face, and the blood drained out of you,

and I could see it was the return.

It was the real Benjamin Rogers.

Finally, I thought, I didn't think we'd see

this guy again.

Will the real Ben Rogers please stand back?

(laughs)

What was this?

He won't spend just a little tiny noise in the car.

And

then all of a sudden, we didn't hear over

3,000 RPM, and we drove very,

very slowly all the way through.

This has been doing my head.

I don't like to finish, no point.

No, shut your mouth for a second.

Please, the floor is the gentleman.

Oh, come on.

I will back you once you start speaking.

I saw you

running scared.

3,000, 4,000 RPM was a dream.

At this point.

I thought you're not modifying this because

you're scared of something, you'll go wrong with it.

Why would I be scared if I had the seats in

the car still talking?

(laughs)

You will do the maximum of one money,

basically.

And then, you will sell the car.

Now, and I give it, six months is from the

release of this video.

Oh, so the creamers will sort that out.

Would that be, so we'd probably be just

about, is that January Feb?

I think so.

Something like that.

That's gonna be the 30th of...

Or is that Feb, yeah, it's about January.

So right in, so by the, oh, would that be

starting with the--

I think it would be a crisp winter's morning,

if it wasn't.

Would the buds be coming through by then?

Would the earliest saplings be raising from

the ground by that point?

Maybe, maybe some of the--

I think it might be-- herbivores,

not very--

I think we'd be.

It might be 20/27's first frost.

I don't think so.

By the end of what?

By the end of what?

By the time, I do not, here we go.

There is no, I'm not setting a time,

the first time we see frost in 20/27,

it will be gone, so could be--

But you know who in that is?

I exactly, but could be Jan first,

then you could be--

It could be April 1.

I'm gonna add that, I'm gonna redline the

clear, so we get a bit more global warming,

and then there'll be no frost,

and I've won.

Redline it, that'd be nice.

Can I speak now?

Now you may speak.

The floor is yours, sir.

Right.

So what happened was, is the truth.

(laughs)

Sorry, you just have to think it up for a second.

We did a video where we, that you would have

seen by now, of me getting the clear,

looking around at that sort of thing.

We then took the car for a first drive.

Right.

Quite a short first drive.

The car was still warming up.

It didn't actually fully reach temperature,

but I didn't want to absolutely rev the bulls

off of it.

Equally, I didn't hear the noise,

but I didn't react to it at all.

Will was doing a PTC talking to the camera.

I wasn't talking, and equally,

when he's talking, I don't want to go,

if he's going, so what do you think of the car?

The car's great, and then go,

blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

in the background, 'cause it's not ringing

for audio editing.

So that's why I did it.

Also, there wasn't--

Joe, I was having to talk.

Why?

'Cause you weren't doing anything.

Well, I was like, well, I have to--

That's why you're here.

It was silent, and I was like,

well, we have to do something here,

Ben.

He miles away from the camera car.

There's a spec away from the ML.

Ben, the car of you.

So the car, it revs all the way to three.

I hadn't driven the car before.

Six years, fantastic.

No, now I'm gonna jump back in here.

I do not want to hear you were in front of me

because I kept having to stop on a 60 road

for you to catch back up for the camera.

The camera is, we have, for camera nerds,

we use a TJ Osmo as the tracking camera,

and it's got a

ridiculously wide-angle lens.

So if you wanna get any kind

of shot, you gotta be in the boot of the car in front.

And I hadn't driven my car before.

Oh, so, but that's interesting because the

point you were making was that I was slowing you down.

But now, the point you're making is that you

have to be close, so you have to be right with me.

Yes, I wasn't, I didn't wanna get up your ass.

So what I did was I hung back.

Mm, okay, interesting.

And you also, whenever I wanted to pull you

in the way.

Ah, sorry.

Oh, that's my belt.

The manipulator returns.

No, my goodness.

Now what's very interesting is that any time

that they did open up, I moved to the other

side of the road.

Yeah, that confused me too.

Oh, interesting.

Would you wanna take you?

You can, you're confused by that.

What, did it confuse you the last,

I'd say, 50 to 100 times you've done it

before when you've been driving the tracking car?

But I've never driven the star car as it goes.

Okay, interesting.

I've never driven the tracking car.

So when the rules are reversed.

Whole different world.

Well, yeah, literally, it's a different role.

Hence the rules being reversed.

I can drive a tracking car quite well,

but I can't drive a car very well.

Not like a car.

But my point is that you're saying that

you're confused by the whole situation.

But then you're indicating, I thought I meant

you're indicating like, left back into the lane.

I thought I meant there was something coming

ahead of you that'd go back in.

Well, the funny thing is, because I was out

the way of you, you can see up there,

which means you can see the car coming.

Yeah, but I didn't know.

Look at all the bends and stuff in the road.

And famously, if there's a left hand bend and

you're out to the right, you'll

be able to see around the bend on my wheel.

Physics.

This is a classic TDC argument.

Correlation does not mean causation,

William.

It was a hair raising noise.

It was the most boring driver I've been on.

We got to a junction.

And we were moments from my destination and I

thought there have to be something.

There have to be something.

We haven't seen three above 3000 RPM.

I said, Ben, I want to see a nice clean exit

from this junction.

I'm not going to bang it off a limiter.

He pulled off in a second.

I actually didn't stop.

Oh, why did you not stop it?

It's a stop sign.

There wasn't a stop sign.

It was a junction.

If there's nothing coming in this country,

you can just, I believe.

Well, I'm wrong.

But what I'm saying is, I wasn't going to do

a clutch dump out of a junction old,

but a not fully hot engine, I'm going to

7,000 RPM and send pissing two through the bonnet.

And then you go, ha, ha, ha,

ha, ha, enjoy walking home.

Now, what's interesting, as Will wasn't here,

Will was doing Vio earlier, is that Ben then

moved the car out earlier.

And he had a bit of a rev earlier after that.

It was maybe within a minute of starting to go.

Not true at all, that's not true.

But it did, that's not true,

you lied there.

Right, that's not true.

I didn't hear it.

I didn't hear the minute.

It would be idling here, in here for a bit,

and I drove it outside and you could see the

temperature gap.

I'm not gonna call it.

What about when it was?

Four minutes.

Okay, and then the 10 minute drive,

it wasn't warm.

Not fully.

And it was all outside for five to 10.

But not enough for it to get to actual proper

operating temperature.

Now, out there, I gave it a little rev,

and I was like, "Caw, you just redlined that."

It was like 3000 RPM.

Didn't say redline, I said you gave it a big

old rev there.

But it wasn't a big old rev,

it was a medium rev.

It got to 3000, which is famously half.

Three, there it is, that's why I'm saying the

limiter on that car.

Yeah, but exactly what I'm saying,

it wasn't that high.

So basically all day I've just been getting

slandered by these guys.

Is there a defamation case going on?

Basically, I just wanna see some evidence

that you can take break off a

little.

Do you think that I bought the car to the metal?

To go 30 miles an hour.

Sorry?

I will drive the car, I just haven't had

chance to drive it properly yet.

I will drive the car.

I have driven it for five minutes.

He's waiting for ideal conditions,

a bright summer's day.

Today was quite, I'm just waiting for an

autobahn to come along or the nordish life.

Let's put the arguing aside.

Sure, but 10 minutes.

What do you say to Will's bet?

I'll do one mod before the first.

Okay, what's the wager?

Sorry, between the first frost of the new year.

Berkshire will quite literally freeze over

before you do a second mod.

And I think that our reward for you doing

that or not doing it, or not doing that,

whichever way you're looking at it,

will have to be a painting again.

Okay.

That's fine.

But what do you mean, our reward for not

doing it or doing it?

You know how the bet works.

So should you not do a second mod,

a painting must serve as reward?

If we lose, I lose, whatever,

the way we look at this, we all lose.

We'll buy you the second mod.

Or buy you a third mod.

I would like to put a price cap on it though.

Well, what's that?

70 billion.

10 grand.

I think it'll be the price that you forgot.

I forgot earlier on, so I left you off to

remember that one.

What's that price?

Oh, wow.

Okay, it's still quite healthy.

Price I forgot earlier on.

The one that you give to the shifter.

You weren't that you were willing to pay it

with it then, not willing.

I should know what that price was.

Yeah.

I remember, I'll keep that in the old mod.

Yes, I agree to your terms, under what,

my one condition.

There are no conditions.

Yes, there are no conditions.

You have to add the first frost of next year.

It's a hell of a bet.

No, but what if the frost comes early?

If it's the first of January,

Ben, you're in.

Because that would be winter.

Yeah.

Okay, but then surely, what if we have a

freak hot summer?

Then, summer, that's what we're having.

Winter.

Then, winter.

Well, that's worse for me.

Yeah, exactly, so you need to be aware of that.

I don't care.

I bet I'll put good money on the fact that

there's going to be frost in England at some

point next year.

We haven't had very many crispy mornings.

I think we do have those.

Because I enjoy them.

I enjoy them so very much.

I know what Bristol's like.

Here's what I'm gonna do then.

Quite rainy.

Every morning before I get in the car,

to adjudicate, I will check the front lawn.

And get a moisture reader.

No, no, you can just get the old handle on

the old grass.

I'll touch grass.

But where are we reading it from?

As well, that's the other thing.

This frost can be anywhere.

But that's not true, because here is much

warmer than where I live.

Well, then I will do it here first thing in

the morning when we come in.

Okay, so it's in Berkshire.

Yeah.

Within the confines of Berkshire.

Sure.

But the first frost of next year and you're

going to be the independent adjudicator.

I will.

The confirms of its frost, you're not.

Correct.

Okay, can you also walk out of some mud and

tell me if that's frozen?

'Cause for me, that's also got to be crispy.

I was also going to think about limiting to

what is a mod, 'cause you could buy an LED bulb.

No, I think that's a mod.

I think it's going to get into technicalities.

The sort of thing that a creamer,

you tell a creamer that you've done to a car

and they go, cool.

Nice.

That's a cool, so interesting.

Visuals can absolutely be odd.

What about badges?

They don't feed them past that firstly,

but I would call them, I think you should

keep them safe, don't hire a badger.

So that doesn't, is that like a--

But it's not a proper modification.

If you wanna win by doing that,

fine, but it's you that.

But we're counting things like wheel refurb,

different color.

That's not a mod though.

That is a mod though.

No, it would be changing wheels or changing

your tyres, no, but going to NS2Rs from road

tyres as a mod.

Already on train tyres.

Well, you could do your brakes then,

go for angry brakes.

Okay, I'd accept your offer.

Good, I think I can't wait for my third mod model.

Only our money, my money, whoever's money,

it may be pretty safe.

Can't wait for my third mod model.

And I can't wait to get, I'll come out my

door in the morning and I'll just see Frost

on my way.

I cannot wait to get, I cannot wait to get that painting.

Oh, that's gonna be so

nice.

But does it pay for the painting though?

Yes, that will pay for it.

No, that's a great last time.

Because I want it to be good,

I don't want it to be half-assed.

Okay, I still owe you an official L as well.

So that was a nice little bit,

a little bit of bullying, a little bit of

arguing, a little bit of manipulation going on there.

And a bet to seal it off.

That's really nice.

Really just poor working environment for everyone.

Yeah, sure, yeah.

Sort of thing that most people who work in

like officers go, "Oh my God."

Yeah, you go to H.R.

for that.

Yeah, that's that.

No, you can't do that.

Not around here, idiot.

No.

No, we haven't got H.R.E.A.M.

But at the same time, they're rewards.

Well, I mean, then.

Well, if you win, you get a reward.

Other people might not get that.

The abuse though still happens even way.

Yeah, but, you know, it's by the point.

We can't change that.

Nothing we can do to change that if we're honest.

I can't do anything about that,

I'm afraid.

Edwin, you've been here.

We're at a 550 spot.

You know what?

I felt a sign recently.

You know, I crashed into a 20 mile an hour sign.

No, so we were on the way to the collecting

car shoot, the one with unnamed collector,

through some very nice roads nearby.

And what did I see in the distance?

But there was a,

45:23 Encounter with a 550 Maranello and Road Stories

there was Imagine a Valley, right?

We're on top of a hill, I'm on top of a hill

and the distance, I can see cars coming in

the opposite direction, 60 mile an hour road,

two valleys that go dip, they dip into a,

into the bottom of the hill.

Okay.

As I came down the hill, I could see some

form of white goods being driven the other way.

But behind it, a red dot.

I was like, what's that?

What's that?

Within moments, I went, that's my guy.

There he is, a 550.

I had the window down in the M3.

And as I reached the bottom of the valley,

we crossed paths.

And it was all clear, otherwise,

no other cars.

And I had my window down.

And as we went past, he went for the overtake.

And he had some form of spicy pipe.

Well, it wasn't too loud, but there was,

I heard it.

Even with my window down, I heard it.

And I was like, that's fantastic.

There's my guy, just going, just like I hoped he would.

Cool, lovely to see.

That was it.

Maybe, what do we mean?

9 a.m.

Sorry about that.

Merci, you're a beautiful storyteller.

What a big picture that was.

Thank you so much.

That was fantastic.

I can imagine it.

I first started to feel quite happy.

I can imagine it, 'cause March,

you know, you saw it in the morning.

This is my story.

We then left a twist at six,

something like that.

Very late at the exact same place.

I'm now coming down the valley,

what's coming down the other side of the

valley, but the same red 550,

crossing at the exact same point in the dip.

And I was like, well, that, I don't believe

in much, but wow, that feels nice.

And I, and I, you're really bringing

the whole story down.

I even gave him a wave.

He didn't get it.

No, he won't go, I've done this guy twice now.

He won't, he won't.

He was a green, very serious.

But I was, I just saw, I was like,

that's, that feels nice.

That feels, and it was a, it was a beautiful

day as well.

It was lovely.

It was a real sun-trask.

Now, red Ferrari, obviously,

you know, it's red Ferraris.

And it's, it's, it's common.

But seeing green, blue, and then red

Ferraris, I felt like I was looking at a children's book.

It was also the, the, it was fealty,

the side looking like Windows XP background.

Like really, this is the whole plane.

What, a plane plane?

Like, not very much gone on.

Yeah, but it's comfortable.

But in a lovely way.

No, but I wouldn't want that.

What?

There was a bit of back rooms.

What does that, like it, there's nothing beyond that.

It's just a void, a bit hot beyond the hill.

You're thinking it.

I want like, do I want like an apple wallpaper?

Okay.

Like a really beautiful landscape.

What a cliff.

Just the Grand Canyon.

Yeah.

I'd

be curious.

I'm realistic.

Yeah.

Not really.

But either way, I like, you know,

every now and then you just see,

you see a car that makes you feel something

and just on the road, you don't even you

don't have to interact with it,

but you just go, yeah.

Yeah.

That's it.

I saw him also because I obviously you were

some cars in front of me and he came past and

I thought, that's nice.

Yeah.

I was in the mercy of August.

I

was like, I'm in the 2000s.

Hey, that's cool.

Then you went

peasant.

Doors go out.

My board barely goes up.

Your door.

Also, yeah.

Yeah.

You'll see it in a video.

What was doors were mashed up?

He thought he fixed it.

It isn't.

We spent a lot of time thinking we'd got rid

of the creaky door and then put the new strut in.

You'll see in the video.

It just made the same noise.

I'm sorry about him.

Well, how mean to gloat?

I did gloat.

I simply explained for the listeners who

don't have the context.

But it's so joyously over his misfortune.

No, that's fine.

Oh, sorry.

This little through saying that I get

enjoyment out of other people's payment.

I don't get that.

I actually want to see him do suffer.

But Ben does it.

He gets the enjoyment when he's at home.

He goes, "Oh, I'm at home in my personal relationships."

I don't know that.

But that's what he played.

But what did I was going to say?

No, OK, that's English.

There's just beside that for one moment,

let me think.

That was it.

I was given by Stuart at SBR radio,

a genuine Lamborghini-Meshalaga radio,

a Grundig no less, which I don't think he

knows is possibly worth as much as it is.

Anyway, it was a little bit rough anyway,

but he said, look, you can see it as a new car gift.

Sat on my shelf radius, you can have it.

They're very rare.

It's the proper original Lamborghini radio.

In theory, it's worse than what I had in there.

What I had in there was a slightly more

modern Sony radio, which had Bluetooth,

but it just looked a bit crap and they've

been fitted really poorly.

The new one is now in fitted poorly,

but it kind of fits in the hole now.

And I thought, we were trying to figure it

out and it wouldn't quite work.

And it said code and whatever else I think.

It's never going to work, but it looked great.

And then as I was driving at home,

I was like, let me fiddle about with it a bit more.

It also doesn't turn off when I turn the car off.

Or turn on when I turn the car on,

which is interesting.

I was pressing it.

And then finally, it read a CD and it started playing.

I actually cannot for the life of me or

anybody it was, but it was lots of mid-2000s

sort of rap and what such hip hop.

And then I rejected the CD.

And a bearing in mind, this didn't come out

of my car, this came out.

I'm assuming a customer's car or something

else, many, many moons ago at SBR.

And what was in there?

Somewhat inappropriate.

Westwood.

Tim Westwood.

Now, Ben, do you even know what that name is?

Now, stuff.

You know, do you know Pimp My Ride?

No, of it.

So he presented the UK version of Pimp My

Ride, which was interesting to say the least.

Yeah.

Nostalgic, let's say.

What was it interesting?

Imagine American Pimp My Ride and having the

budget and the flair and the ambition of an

American, you know, large American modifying

shop to do sort of stuff.

Now just put it on a trading estate in England.

Yeah.

And what did they come up with?

They just a coarser.

There was many very spiky hair in that thing.

Yeah.

Yeah.

They have some sharp hair.

There were some things I liked in there.

But again, Pimp My Ride was always a bit.

Anyway, I took that.

It was just a westward thing.

It had lots of different artists on it.

And I thought, you know what?

That feels like that CD's been in there for

the last 15 years.

That CD's just really sat in there going,

come on.

I think there was a date.

I want to say it was a date on the CD in 2008.

It was also like the second CD in it.

So it was like a CD2 or something.

So yeah.

But I can't get into my CD.

CD changer.

So I need to see it.

I want to get that to work to see if there's

anything in there.

Now what if you boot that up and that's got

CD1 of Tim Westford and then that's your

original radio that comes back.

Crazy.

And that's where Stuart gave it to me because

he said, remember him?

He knew.

This is him now.

Feel old yet.

So that's, I don't know how we got there,

but Ben, time to get your brain going.

We had a thought.

We went when we went to Duke of London.

It's in London.

Now, Ben, when you associate cars in London,

what do you put together?

Influencers.

Influencers, yes.

Now we were there and I don't even know how

we got onto this.

No, no idea.

This kind of.

I know how we got onto this,

would you like to know?

How was it?

We saw a thinking

52:16 The Thinking Man's Meal Deal Discussion

man's car.

Oh yeah.

We saw an Oxford Green 3 Series.

E46.

And what was on the passenger seat?

Tesco sandwich.

Tesco sandwich, but could not see which flavor.

The face was down and we came to a conclusion

that the thinking man who owned into the

Thinking Man's 3 Series, not on M3 because

that would be brash and brazen and silly.

Yeah, you bought whatever model that was.

I'm going to assume it'll be a 3.30.

It was a 3.30.

He said, well, I don't want anyone to know

what my sandwich is because it's thinking man's sandwich.

So I didn't go for the mad sandwich.

I went for this sandwich.

So I ask you this, Benjamin.

Yes.

And the cream as I ask you this,

what is the Thinking Man's meal deal?

And I'd like you to sell it to me.

Now, we've got one as well, which is pretty good.

It's the egg and the crests.

First thing we said.

The humble egg readily available.

Well, you add a bit of cress in there.

Become something more fancy.

Lovely.

Much like the humble 330, because you take

just a three series, a saloon.

I assume it's saloon.

It was a coup.

It was a coup.

Oh, wow.

A coupΓ©, but a simple coupΓ©.

And you add in just a peppy little M54.

And then you have the egg and the crests.

I've now become Mark of PLY.

Yeah, you really, you ship the egg and the crests.

I think egg and crests.

Egg and crests, right?

Yeah.

With a millionaire shortbread on the side.

Is that possible?

I think it will.

Yeah, if you're a co-op mill,

they have very good millionaire shortbreads.

Ben knows.

I used to work in a co-op.

He knows every combination.

He has to own it.

No, he used to work there.

That's a big investment.

Undercover boss.

Shout out like co-op.

Didn't like it.

And the drink.

Yeah.

The drink will be either, sure,

it will be either a full fat coke.

Okay.

And there'll be some like, talking about how

that's better and that sort of thing.

Or it would just be a humble fizzy water,

like a San Pellegrino.

I wouldn't call that humble.

But they'll believe it's humble.

Oh, it's all right.

The egg and crests.

It's a bit of a shock with everything stripped back.

Yeah, exactly.

But it still has the fizz though.

Yeah.

It's not water.

It's a fizzy drink.

But without all of those, without all the aids.

It's a, exactly.

When I say aids, I mean, electronic aids.

See now.

It's a talking point.

The two.

Okay.

Great water.

You walk around my little bottle of the old Pellegrino.

Those that know, know.

Exactly.

If I see you holding one of them Pellegrinos,

I'm thinking, this guy knows.

This guy knows what kind of water he's going for.

You would nod at other people with a Pellegrino.

Yeah.

He did a green bottle.

All right.

And you'd just go.

Yeah, you'd

make like a, you'd make like an Instagram

page that was like hashtag make green bottles

great again.

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah.

Or apple-tiser.

Apple-tiser, that's quite left field.

See now, what we said, my thought is you have

to start with the just ham because everyone's

out there with these club sandwiches,

with these triple sandwiches,

but we're losing touch with what,

with what makes a meal deal great.

It's the sandwich.

It's just a basic sandwich to get you through.

And then you need a bit of contrast to it.

Yeah.

So you're just going with the ready salted crisps.

You don't want to push the boat out.

You're the most boring person about you.

Then just like, what's the drink though?

Because the drink, that's where it gets zesty.

Right.

You throw in a little bit of a kombucha,

something weird.

There you go.

It's something so weird that even normal

people go, I don't like that take.

Sorry.

But there you go.

That's because I'm in the know and you're not.

I know something that you don't.

If someone thinks that's available in a fancy

color, there you go.

Now, look at it.

It's just a K11 Micro.

Very basic.

Might have been an auto, but we know.

But it is in the flip paint color.

And the thus becomes interesting.

But that, I think that's prime.

It's, because again, it's everyone go,

"No, that's boring.

That sounds really boring.

That meal deal sounds horrific."

And you go, "No, it's not actually.

It's actually really interesting."

The crux of it is that you go,

"You don't know what I know."

If someone thinks they're better than me and

they're eating a just ham sandwich,

you've got to get a grip there.

Everyone knows.

Yeah, but they'd know also, because you're

kind of getting that apart from your

converter, of course, which is probably

relatively expensive.

Most people will be familiar with the game of

you're trying to maximize the price of your meal deal.

In the age old days of a three-pound meal

deal, doesn't exist anymore.

can't believe it.

You would try and get each piece of your meal

deal to be the most amount, as long as it's

not going to taste like ass.

Whereas that is, no, I don't.

They actually want it to be less.

Yeah.

You're paying four pounds for the meal deal,

but the things on your meal deal cost two pounds.

Or is it not a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich?

Too fancy.

No, but it doesn't, it doesn't not ever go from there.

Okay.

No, I mean, elaborate, elaborate,

elaborate.

When you see them in the shop,

they've, all right, picture a meal deal aisle.

I'm in there.

How many times have you been there and they

haven't got smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches?

True.

They're always there, top shelf.

You should top left.

Yeah, top left and they're on the brown bread as well.

They are and then the fans packaging.

Yeah.

But after all, it's a bit, you know,

it's a bit of fish in a bit of bread.

Sure.

So it's not, it seems fancier than it is.

You've taken a piece of fish.

It's really an allegory for the Alpina B3.

Exactly.

It's your basic, car, it's your three series

that everyone knows and loves,

but this one, it's been made a little bit more special.

But I think it could be a smoked salmon cream

cheese

sandwich, a bottle of water,

but we're talking an Evian.

Okay.

Okay.

At the bare minimum of Evian.

It could be healthy, it's simple.

Exactly.

But it needs no glass bottle,

ideally.

So sample agrino could be there.

Do they do glass

bottles for meal deal?

I've never seen a green glass bottle.

Crazy.

Is that what they have?

I don't think that's true at all.

I don't know.

Listen, I'm a Tesco man myself.

Same.

And then your final out, your snack.

What do you like to round that up?

The snack is going to be...

Just a pepper army.

Oh, Ben's got on that one.

Let me think.

A pepper army is not good.

No.

No.

It's going to be...

This is your snack, remember.

That's going to be carrot sticks and hummus.

No, I think what you've made there is the

early 2000s continental.

You've gone posh, but you're saying it's depreciated.

No one else wants these ones.

They've already taken the...

What's the one everyone goes for?

Is it horseradish and beef, the posh one?

Everyone goes for?

I think they always seem to be gone.

But the salmon and cream cheese is always there.

No one wants these things.

I do.

These old continentals, no one wants them.

But I'm rolling around in them.

What is each section of the meal deal?

In my head, the sandwich is the car.

Your side would be your engine or power chain.

or specification and the drink would

potentially be your color.

Like your spec.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But I guess also your spec could be a

sandwich because if you've gone with a ham

sandwich, like white, beige,

brown.

What sort of pink color?

Now, if this is your first podcast,

sorry.

Yeah.

But if you're inducted into the Hall of Fame

of Creamers, you're probably about this.

So we want to hear about what you think.

What's the thinking man's meal deal?

That woman's...

Can I ask you a question?

I want a driver's...

I want a driver's...

Oh, yeah.

What's the drive?

Like meal deal.

Oh, hold on.

I think that's ham and cheese.

Ham and cheese.

Yeah.

It's a manual.

Ham and cheese.

And then...

Oh, what's that going to be?

That probably is a full fat Coke.

Actually, I wonder if the purest one isn't a

meal deal at all.

I think what you...

It's essentially stage tuning.

You're saying, what?

Someone's going to put your meal together for you.

I don't

think so.

It's what we were doing.

When we worked at a car

throttle, we would go and buy a loaf of

bread, not a loaf of bread.

We'd get very weird, fair enough.

We'd go and buy a full French stick and then

a ham, cheese and butter and like French peasants.

Just make sandwiches in the kitchen while

people were bringing their food from home.

But that is a purest.

I'm going, I made that.

That's my project sandwich.

That's a manual.

I built this.

I built this from the ground up.

That's my sandwich that's running today.

I've just done the engine swap salami cheese

at this one.

Got to get it changed.

That one was a bit powerful.

It was double salami in there.

It really spins up.

It really does.

Can I ask you something?

Yes.

That's a question.

Where's your meal deal of choice?

I don't say you change it because no one changes it.

I do.

I do.

There's always you always come home to one.

Now, okay, yeah, now that I will agree with.

It's always now they aren't that many Tesco's

around here.

So I I'm a bit of a wrong and because I like

the there's a BP.

Is it M&S?

Yeah, BP's M&S.

Simply food.

A Marmite sandwich.

It's great.

She's a Marmite.

But if we're talking Tesco, we're hitting the basics.

I'm a ham and cheese man.

I'm Dutch.

I'm Dutch.

So I'm hitting ham and cheese on such a big level.

And is it on the longer roll or is it in the sandwich?

No, no, it's in the sandwich sandwich.

I'm keeping it sandwich.

I've felt like the sub one.

Tesco's do a baguette one.

And then I'm hitting a Thai sweet chili chicken.

Is that what it's called?

The blue walkers.

Not walkers, McCoy's.

What is it?

Yeah, yeah, of course.

Blue one.

And then unfortunately, in days past,

it would be a full fat coke.

But now I can't have caffeine.

I'm goodness, it's usually a...

It's usually a fanta or something.

Sovereign yon bonk.

Well, I was having a peanut.

I'm also a ham and cheese.

If it's in the sub, better, a little bit

sauceier, a little bit longer.

Slightly zestier bread, enjoyable.

And we're not paying up any more.

Fantastic.

This is a car podcast?

Now, for crisps, that's where I'd probably

mix it up the most, if I'm honest.

And recently, I've been hitting up the discos.

Discos?

Discos?

I've never seen a discos in a bit.

Wills from 1998.

Discos or a beef hula hoop?

Discos are

good, but seldom seen.

And you can always rely on anywhere having a

beef hula hoop or a loop for some variety.

Ham and cheese, preferably sub.

Beef hula hoop, messy, smelly,

nice follow-up to ham and cheese,

'cause it's very, um, smelly.

I don't know if that was a word,

but I can't think of it.

And then it could be a water,

just to wash it all down, or perhaps cook zero.

Lovely.

I don't know.

Ben, we used to use random drinks where it's

like, "Oh, would you like this egg drink with

your meal deal?"

And no one's buying that.

Ben?

Okay, that's fair.

For me?

Run it quick time.

It's always gonna be the sort of southern

fried chicken wrap.

I think that's a classic.

That's one of the most popular surely.

It's with the mayonnaise though.

Okay.

Can you get one with the mayonnaise?

What are we doing?

Is it 'cause wraps feel like you're getting

more than sandwich?

It does.

And, you know, is it healthier?

Feels healthier, is it a wrap?

Sure.

Sandwich, don't know.

And then I'll rock.

As a snack, I always go for something like a crisps.

Okay.

As a snack?

Actually, that's my go-to.

Do you know what?

But I often times, do you know what I often go for?

No, no, hold on.

There's no changing.

Okay, if I'm going on, I'm telling you what I

have most of time there.

Yeah.

Twix Extra, sort of carry on.

Okay.

You're not a crisp man.

Not usually a milled duke.

Once I've had that salty, salty chicken and

mayonnaise, I want a little bit of sweet to

say, shape that.

Okay.

Okay.

Washed down with a can.

Has to be a can.

Because the bottle is wrong.

Of Coke Zero.

Because the bottle of Coke Zero,

what we're doing, we're wrong.

It's going to be a can.

Because it's going to be a nicer.

Let's get the thinking man's milled ill and

also you'd be able to deal choices in the comments.

Well, I feel like this is going to be a a

week of comments.

And also feel free to abuse us if you don't like that.

But also.

And each other.

Don't care.

Yep.

Because it's funny.

Ben.

Hello.

You're up once again.

Here we go.

Can you please tell us your weekly shutdown?

Can you tell us this week's video guests?

Can you can you explain to people who are new?

Here's the context to everybody.

We,

1:04:20 Video Idea Guessing Game with Ben

as in Edwin and I, have a video idea that we

have had independently confirmed to be the

same video idea.

We haven't conversed.

We haven't talked about it.

We just know it's the same idea.

A man in another room said yes,

that is the same idea.

Ben doesn't know what this idea is.

He just knows that he is involved in it.

It is now his job to guess that video idea.

If he gets it right, we'll tell him if he doesn't.

Well, we won't.

Will we make it?

Yeah.

Well, it depends if it's possible.

Sticky one.

Get sticking above the day, I'd say.

So I wrote this earlier.

I was thinking it through.

You're going to both build a car,

one product each.

choose which one we keep and which one we

either scrap or this idea more blow up.

That's quite hang on.

I get to choose.

I like that idea though.

By testing each car through a series of

challenges that I determine.

Okay.

Do we know the challenges before we build the car?

No, you must build the car and I must have a

very specific set of criteria that you will

not know about.

Ben.

It's not it.

No, it's not at all.

You might close.

It couldn't be further away.

But I just want to go back to I think maybe

two to three guesses ago.

Yeah.

You said you are straying so far from the sun

and you were once close.

You were once on the cusp of greatness.

I don't know.

And you have then taken that and gone,

I think I'll just keep going for it.

Do you think if you go further away,

you might make a full loop?

Well, if anything, we're getting good ideas

out of this.

So you keep looking at your wall and then

looking at the turd in your hand and going,

turd.

I think I reckon I'm just going to sling this over there.

I keep throwing this at that wall.

So I don't understand the stick.

Now we're making the video.

Ben, that's a great section.

Thank you very much.

Because there's no payoff for the creamers.

We'll cut your mic off there.

Thank you very much.

We told you.

Also, we've just said it's a very,

very difficult video to make.

And what you've just come out with

is let's buy two cars.

I think it's bigger.

We buy seven cars each.

It's a very specific number.

Seven cars.

I'm afraid it was five.

I've covered all things that I could do.

That's not true.

I depend.

You'd make a rubbish YouTube.

You'd get three weeks in and go.

Well, I've done everything.

I feel like I have covered everything that we could.

I could be involved and it'll make sense.

There's nothing else that makes sense.

But do you understand that what you've been

told is that you've been given a great hint here.

You're in a game when you've got everything

on easy mode.

Still managing.

And the game is saying, it's just glowing.

Here's the door you need to go through.

You stupid, Bristol shrew.

Please come through the door.

It's the little caterpillar,

not caterpillar.

Dragonfly, in Spyro.

That's Steve Carell in Ancomann,

isn't it?

Anyway, yeah.

I'm sorry.

I look forward to your next guess being

equally as terrible.

And thank you very much for the ideas.

It's really great having a free think tank.

Edwin, you've been here.

What appears to be sad news?

It is that noob speed has been shot dead in Detroit.

That's it.

Unfortunately.

So we heard before that noob speed had not

didn't have a game in development at the moment.

However, they have now confirmed this is this

is just from a random article.

A year since the first rumors of Need for

Speed's demise circle, it seems that the

one's popular car racing game is dead.

Last year, car culture website Speed Hunters

was disbanded, bringing the future of Need

for Speed into question.

Now, EA, the game's publisher,

has shelved Need for Speed and confirmed that

it's been everyone being moved over to

working on Battlefield to be worked on first

person shooters.

9/11s and 4/8s and flying through canyons and

design all the graphics for that.

Next year, you're shooting each other.

Who made a car for Battlefield?

Aston Martin recently made a car for Battlefield.

What designed a car for Battlefield?

It's like a one-off thing that'll be in the game.

Anyway.

Yeah, that's crazy, but that's sad.

That's

sad to see.

Now, is anything ever really dead?

Well, yeah.

The reason that people have said that it's a

bit concrete

is that IGN interviewed someone there,

but saying whether Criterion could revive

either Need for Speed or the also EA

published Burnout series, which would be great.

Battlefield Studios Europe, the vice

president, said, "We are solely focused on

Battlefield right now."

So when asked, "Can we maybe see this in the future?"

They went, "I don't care."

We are printing money off this stuff.

We do not care.

We need some more games that are doing it

quite literally.

For the love of the game.

But that's mad that that is a,

I would say, I know Forza and stuff is big

now, but on a longer time, on the longer

timeline, I think Need for Speed is probably

the most influential car game in gaming history.

I'd say that in Gran Turismo for me.

Yeah.

Are the two games that I'd say.

Yeah.

Because Gran Turismo was always a little bit

more hardcore, if that meant you had to be

properly into cars.

Whereas Need for Speed is my cousins who had

no care of cars, had Need for Speed and liked

playing Need for Speed and that sort of stuff.

That's sad.

What is it?

What's missing?

What's missing for?

Because also Need for Speed has done so many

people remember Hot Bespoo Hoot.

All they remember the Underground series.

So it is a mix of like, oh, we're doing like

mad, you know, police chases,

all when modifying cars.

There's stuff to be done here,

but I don't know.

Maybe it's all been done to death too much.

Everything needs to be some

open world, blah, blah, blah.

But maybe we will buy Need

for Speed.

TDC Cream is intending to purchase via Ben,

the Arbaca, a rich, a rich, backer who wishes

not to be named.

Right, it's Ben Rogers.

We'll be purchasing Need for Speed and

bringing it back.

We

don't know how to make games.

We're going to be making top

down GTA one style.

We will make that the game that's got

the bubbles in it and you press it and you

have to get the

hoop over the thing.

We'll get onto it next week.

We'll talk about it next week.

But we will very briefly.

We asked what are our...

After what I realized, I was like,

"It kind of sounds bad, am I saying?

Who are our most famous followers?"

We don't care about any of the odds.

But they still don't care.

I want to know who the most famous.

We have a man with a million followers.

He makes art on a typewriter.

It's very cool.

It's got his name.

His name might be James.

Okay.

That could be right.

Again, we'll get, we'll get,

we'll collate to someone and put them all together.

But one on the subject, comfortable thing we did have.

Two, three or four of you work at Rockstar.

Shout out.

I know we know that you're not allowed to say

anything or do anything.

But do you know what?

I'd like a, whenever you're doing DLCs for

cars in the future.

I want a little, a little cream reference.

Because one of you, can I say this?

I probably can.

And one of you does something to do with the

vehicles as well.

One of them was genuinely cool to do with doing things.

I would like to just know about GT6 and you

can't serve details.

No, that's, you can just DM them to me.

I would tell no one.

That's the one thing they can't do.

I'd like to know about Midnight Club.

Yeah, I wouldn't, I would like to talk to GT.

Shut up.

I want to know about Midnight Club.

Will it ever come back?

Can it ever come back?

And if it is, how will it come back?

If it is, please, can we be in?

Like either, I'll be, I'll be the girl that,

you know, throws the flag down at the starting race.

That's Ben.

I'll do it.

Oh legit, I'll do anything.

Ben is the, he's the antagonist.

Ben's book from Midnight Club.

The jumpers make sense too.

Sorry, if you didn't play there in the club,

you don't know what we're talking about.

The Midnight Club is such an elite game and I

just want to see some, or even if it was a remaster.

Yeah, 'cause that, that's a popular,

look, I was trying to put in ideas in your head.

You guys need these ideas.

Remasters are popular, let's get that remastered.

I would be so, I'd be so very happy.

LA or Midnight Club 3, God, I'd put so much

money in that.

I walked past Rockstar and offices somewhat recently.

When did you go?

Where was it?

actually been around the time that the first

GT6 like teaser trailer dropped,

around that time.

And I walked past it.

And I just stood there for a second,

I looked at it.

I was like, the secrets that are within this place.

It's crazy.

If I only just.

Do you know what, I feel this with,

we are in an industry, we were,

when we were at Car Vertical,

where we would sometimes see things early.

And we'd be under embargo and that sort of thing.

I don't, I didn't like it.

I liked, I liked the Christmas feeling that

it finally coming out and knowing nothing about it.

And either like a game or a car,

and then reading up and being like,

oh, like the, the feeling of watching a top

gear episode and finding out about a car

first, because I hadn't deliberately hadn't

bought a magazine or that feeling,

that feeling of having that reveal to you

early, it takes away from it a little bit.

Do you know what, I want, I want to just boot

up GTA

1:13:19 GTA 6 and Midnight Club Remaster Speculations

six and just play it.

I don't look at anything.

I know that obviously people who work there

get to work like that's really cool,

but wouldn't, wouldn't, you've heard it left out?

You didn't get to, get to experience it for

the first time.

That's what I mean.

And you buy a disc for some reason and it

just has, you open the disc box and it just

has a code in it.

Yeah.

Down in it.

And you go, wow, that's amazing.

But that is the sacrifice you make for the art.

In the same way that when I went away on

holiday and you guys filmed some of that

video, when I watched that edit for the first

time, I was like, this is sick.

This is like you.

This is like watching a, this is what the

viewers get to do, where it's a video that I

have no idea what it's going to be.

I knew what the title and you what happened

to the video.

Cool.

That's cool.

That's, you don't get that when you're in it.

I do get that.

I do get that, both.

Nice.

A few clips now.

I used to love it a car throw.

And one of my favorite parts of the week was

on a Friday.

When you got to leave.

Yeah.

When the weekend came around.

Everyone had part, part, part of my job as a

social was on a Friday.

The, the main YouTube video would go out.

And me and Edwin would edit together a couple

of little teasers, a couple of little things

to Instagram.

And we usually quite late get the,

um, edit through.

I used to love it.

Cause I got to, I had to, had to watch it

through and sit down to work out what was

going on to get clips, get this and that.

I just love it.

I got to watch it a little bit early and I

got to see what they were doing that.

We had no idea.

It was like being a viewer early.

And then you'd bet on the stock market of,

as to what was going to happen in the video.

Cause you got in early.

That's how you made your billion.

That's why I buy 36s before people,

they announced they bought them for the channel.

Smart.

But that was cool.

It was a good feeling of like,

I'm part of this, but I'm not part of this like this.

It made sense.

I think you're wearing like this.

What have we got to end?

We got forum.

There is a forum from Benjamin.

This forum is from, Andrew Cook.

Hello Andrew.

I think we haven't used it before.

If we have, remind me of that.

I don't remember his name.

No.

Hello there, Benjamin.

Forum question for the next podcast.

Or just if you want to answer.

We know cars have changed over the years.

So Ben, do you want to answer that?

What was that?

Said if you just, if you want to answer.

I would like to answer.

Yes.

It will be in the next podcast.

We know cars have changed over the years,

brackets, for worse it seems,

with powertrain, suspension and what such,

and what such.

But I want to know what single fundamental

single thing about a car drives or feels,

about how a car drives or feels,

do you think has improved the most?

And

what niche part of the car do you think we

have lost along

the way?

Thanks for the hope of hopefully reading

this, et

cetera.

I believe, it's not like niche,

I believe we have lost comfort.

I think the base level of comfort of a car is gone.

And I think that is because of wheels.

Everyone wants big wheels now.

Because like my 36, I drive,

if you just drive a standard 36 on a standard

suspension round, it's comfy and it's wafty.

If you drive most new stuff,

it's horrible.

Even I drove it, I went in like a taxi,

a Prius, and then I went in a similar,

was it an EQS?

The ride was horrible.

I think it got work, it was bad,

and then it got better, and now it's got worse again.

But overall, I think the general level of

ride comfort in a car is now it's all just harsh.

I think interior materials, you look at like

a budget car from like, like a fiesta,

right?

Take a fiesta from 20 years ago,

versus one from, or like a up from today or something.

Similar levels, I would say,

in terms of price and market.

So you're saying this has got better or

worse?

Scratchy plastic everywhere that isn't,

I swear we used to have more,

it just felt like it was better put together.

I think most manufacturers have figured out

how to make cars not feel premium

necessarily, but they don't feel as cheap as they do.

To me it feels cheaper.

Cheap cars used to feel cheap.

Yeah.

Like the KA, the KA that we drove,

when we drove the K and C2V cars.

Yeah, it's just, it's really been plastic and

it rattles and I don't think there are as

many cars that are as basic as that.

And also in the materials, premium,

but they generally feel a little bit softer to touch.

And also I think the, for me,

the base level.

That I think soft touch stuff feels cheap to me.

But I think, I think plastic also feels cheap.

Yeah, I'd rather that, I'd rather that new

stuff than a literal gray piece of plastic

that I push and make it bends in.

Do you know how it feels like it's made?

I feel as old.

I mean, because it is, but the new stuff just

feels cheap.

It just feels like it's been,

you can look around a car and go,

I can see where you've cut costs,

looking at the steering wheel and this.

Yeah.

There's an older car, I thought you didn't get that.

I think the general, I don't know what you

actually call this, I guess it's like

options, but I don't know what you'd sort of

category you'd put this in, but basic cars

used to be.

Yeah.

Cars used to be super basic.

Yeah.

Even that K, that was a high spec one.

Yeah.

It's got heat seats and whatever.

At a clock.

And at a clock and some cars didn't have,

you couldn't have revs in a speedo or it

might not have a coolant, I don't think they

had a coolant gauge.

It was just, when it comes on,

it comes on if you've ever heated.

Because these days aren't like that,

I'm sure there are cars that are relatively basic.

But most cars will have some form of,

it's relatively easy to get a heated seat,

Android Auto, cruise control.

Like your standard Fiesta these days.

The San Baro.

It's quite everything.

The San Baro, the San Baro that we drove.

The San Baro, everything.

Had everything you'd want in it.

You'd get in the San Baro today and go,

this is what a upper mid, like mid luxury car

from the 2000s would have.

All of the things this has, you'd have to buy

a Merc or an Audi.

Yeah.

From the 2000s to get this.

I think overall what has improved is

absolutely reliability.

Yeah, I think it was fair.

Maybe I haven't owned enough new cars to know

what the difference is, but I think I would

be fairly confident in saying that the

majority of new cars are considerably more

reliable, at least I'm going to flex petrol

engine stuff anyway, or petrol diesel engine,

than an older car would have been.

Just because they've had all those years to

figure it all out and go, yeah,

no, we've got this nailed on now.

Starting that.

Yeah, what's that?

I think engines and gearboxes are the things

that are most improved, because some engines

and gearboxes are so impressive now in a

modern car, that not that they weren't in an

older car, you get some old V8s,

but they can just do everything,

and it's in your basic car.

Something that's got a B58 in it,

or some sort of turbo straight six,

like some of the Merck engines,

they can do everything, and they'll do 30

plus MPG, and they're reliable,

and you can tune them, and they'll still do

100, 200, thousand miles.

So there are a lot more engines like that

now, I think, and gearboxes look that good.

You had a manual gearbox before,

anything with an auto would be a little bit

mass, whereas the auto boxes now are also good.

1:20:12 Reliability and Modifiability of Modern Cars

I'd probably say gearboxes more than engines.

I also think this is a bit specific,

but it is barriers to entry.

In terms of modifying a car,

back in the day, if you want to modify a 2J,

you have to know what you're doing,

or you have to take someone who knows what

they're doing, and you need a host of parts

to do things properly.

There was no pipe in an email back then.

My brother, who's vaguely interested in cars,

can now know, if I just take my new car down

the road, I'll get it remapped,

and they might stick a downpipe on it,

like a hundred horsepower more,

whereas if you're into cars back then,

you have to be into cars to get any more out

of your car.

Because that's--

No one's doing it to their everyday car.

No.

And that's also why I think everyone jokes

about early 2000s like ricer mods,

but it's because that's what you could do.

You could go and buy a bumper,

get it sprayed, or stick it on without it

being sprayed and go, "Cool,

I did that myself."

You couldn't rebuild a head unless,

or fit a turbo, unless you know what you're doing.

Whereas now you can go, I just chuck a pipe

in an email on it, and off I go,

now I'm making 450 or so.

So that's improved, but what have we lost

along the way?

I sound--

That I was gonna say, that was gonna be my big thing.

I think across the board, there are some cars

that still sound incredible.

They do, but I think it's just the

regulations that stop them from being better.

If you made a Revuelto 15, 20 years ago,

it would sound even more mental than it is now.

It doesn't sound bad, but the biggest thing I

noticed that on, it's a B58,

I love that engine, when I was lucky enough

to borrow that super for a few months,

it is, from stock, it is the most dull sound.

It's just a machine doing it,

it just goes, eh, eh, it just does that over

and over, almost.

I was, I tried to think about those things,

and I don't think many old cars were like

super, I know that things

like cats and OPFs and whatever else they're

called now,

that's what I mean.

I definitely quite in cars down,

but I don't remember too many old old cars

that are actually

really, unless you go back to like,

I'm talking like maybe 60s or 70s,

even 80s maybe, but like 90s and 2000s,

they still have cats, they're still

relatively quiet, standard.

Yeah, that's what a lot of people,

they think about a, a modified version of it.

It's the same with the Revuelto thing we had

before and they'll go, well,

an event with the Gintani sounds much better.

It's like, yeah, but that's,

that's now modified.

So, yeah, I probably on the whole,

there is a, there is a lack of sound because

there's now valves and stuff.

Yeah, so valves are like muting a car down

low, but valves has been a thing for like 20,

25 years.

I think also intake noise, that's got worse a lot.

Yeah, I think.

Because there aren't many NA cars anyway now,

it's more turbo stuff anyway,

but the amount of engineering they put into

make a car not make a sound.

Yeah.

And, no, for, and yeah, the,

although that was, it got NVH.

Yeah, NVH, the way they, Ben,

that sounds for noise, vibration and ham.

There it is.

Yeah, there we go, and half mess,

half ham.

Where everything inside the cabin is that

there are so much more of it.

You've got more leather, more,

more safety stuff.

You'll now further from everything.

So they have to engineer in sound now.

So you, and that's not right.

Just, just, hearing it, even with the

Revuelto, obviously this is like an extreme

case, because it's Lamborghini,

it's not necessarily an everyday car.

But that sounded great from the inside,

but compared to something, even though the

Mercado has an aftermarket exhaust,

but the induction noise on that car is insane.

In comparison, you're never going to get that

on a modern day equivalent of that car,

and even going down to like an M3 CSL.

Oh, yeah.

You're never getting that noise from a more

modern car, probably because they're not

going to do NA, but it would like turbo noises.

They try and make that as minimal as possible.

is probably a good one.

One other thing, gear shifters,

the actual selector, I hate you.

The majority of you want some sort of twiddly.

I actually, I used to hate it,

but I've now come around to it.

The Land Rover one, the one that rises up a

little knob, I quite like that now.

I used to hate it, but no, like even a new

BMW one, I don't like that little,

it doesn't move, it just pivots.

I know that's because it's essentially just a switch.

You're just telling it electronically.

Nothing is moving anymore.

But it's whack.

I just hate it.

The only ones I really hate are button ones.

Yeah, that'll-- Some McLarens,

Aston's, and I don't know what other cars

have it, but it's normally on auto,

obviously, where they'll have like PRNDL or

not L, but you know, PRND on individual buttons.

That's not nice.

If you want to be able to freely use the--

That makes me feel like a child.

Like I'm like, okay, now press the D.

Okay, I've done it.

All right, thank you.

All right, now we'll do the driving.

At least a selector is like,

all right, to move this mechanical thing into

a gear, now go.

I think actually, here's my answer is ergonomics.

Okay, because even though we have more things

that we can do in cars, there are more

buttons to press.

We have cruise control.

What I always find, and maybe this is just

old man who doesn't know anything about,

who doesn't care about modern cars as much.

Nothing's ever where you want it to be.

Nothing ever works how you want it to be.

Well, there are things like,

I drive, got a lot of stick,

but I always thought when they got that like

second gen of I drive with the wheel,

it just kind of worked and you could do it

while you were driving and you still had all

of your controls for your air con where you

could just go, I want it to be slightly

hotter or warmer.

I'll press this button, it'll go up or down.

It all kind of worked and everything would be

where you expect it.

Obviously, some of that is getting used to a car.

Yeah.

Some of it, you'll go, well,

I've had this electric, I've had this

electric Audi for the last two years and I

know exactly where everything is,

but some cars should feel like you get in and

go, okay, well, roughly nowhere,

everything is going to be.

Whereas I think modern cars have lost that,

that part of it.

They're just trying to cram everything in and

nothing's where you expect it to be and touch

screens is the biggest part.

So I think that's pretty well rounded,

Ben, you happy with that?

Nice and round.

Okay, sure, lovely little pear shape.

Right, shall we finish up this podcast and we

will see you next week, hopefully with less,

maybe more bullshit, more watches.

We'll need to get on that time.

I'll get, remind

me, I had forgotten.

Okay, perfect.

Shall I message you later on?

Yeah.

Thank you very much for listening.

to the 93rd episode of the Cream Podcast,

slowly, rapidly,

sorry, closing in on that 100.

See you next week.

Creamers,

go check your watches.
