0:00 Rule or Ruin: Clio 172 Engine Issues
I think I'll barrel well into the other side
of the motorway, actually.
You guys are so annoying, man.
Imagine they made a lab.
An orange.
Right here.
Okay.
What is this podcast?
Hello, and welcome back to the Cream podcast.
The Carl Rule
Everything Around Me podcast with myself,
Will, Edwin, to
my right, and then Benjamin behind the camera.
Hello.
Lovely, very, very nice.
At the beginning of every single podcast,
we ask ourselves, do Carl's Rule?
Rule or Ruin everything around us?
Edwin, would you like to kick us off?
No, I wouldn't.
No, I wouldn't like to start us off.
No.
Visual viewers will note that we're in our
other unit at the moment.
It's also quite echo-y, apologies.
That's because we've been working in here on my Clio.
It's only been a few days since we lasted the
podcast, and Ben said at the end of that
podcast, "Oh, I've got to do a podcast again
in two days.
What are we going to talk about?"
Oh, things have happened in that time.
I said, "I was so excited last podcast.
I bought a Clio 172 exclusive."
And there was just a little issue.
It wouldn't run.
It was just a fuel pump would run or
something like that.
It was cranking.
What's behind me, Will?
There is a Renault Clio 172,
phase one exclusive with no engine in it,
and the engine is coming outside of an engine
crane there and lots of bits to my right.
The engine's blown on it.
We thought, we were like, "Okay,
well, we want to make the video kind of
interesting, so we'll long it out a little bit.
We'll test if it's got a spark,
if it's got a compression."
And then we'll work out, "Okay,
it's just got no fuel.
Let's do that."
And then we put the compression tester in it.
Well, actually, I'll save a little bit for
the video, but yeah, it turned out the engine was blown.
So we've filled the engine today,
which is great, which is great,
which is great.
But I'm not deterred.
I'm buying another engine for it.
We're chucking another engine in it,
and it's going to drive.
So that's, I'm rule, ruin.
That's the one.
I think that is a solid ruin.
Yeah, it's a really tough ruin.
I'm going to say a rule mainly because
there's no reason to ruin.
But despite this, this should put anyone off.
Right.
But I've been looking at it going,
I should call her.
I've been considering messaging the old owner
of my blue car being like, well,
how can we make this deal happen?
But obviously, yellow Clio, still,
I still want a liquid yellow Ben with them or a 200.
The bet's still there.
I've got till November.
Worst bet ever.
You got offered one.
Well, I did you on the podcast a few weeks ago.
I was even considering it.
There's a chap who messaged me.
This has been going on a world and actually I
haven't responded to his most recent message yet.
So you may be hearing this for the first
time, but we're still considering it.
Now, it is an extremely dodgy one.
And that is somewhat fortunate.
Yes.
Once again, we have been sponsored by the
guys at Car Vertical with very,
very appreciative.
Shall I cover another sponsor on the podcast
helps keep the podcast
and
They have their Car Vertical score out
of 100.
It went for more damage last year,
2025.
Okay.
I think just take it away from them as owning it.
Now, if you use the logic of me buying this,
I'd go out and buy that.
Yeah, there he is.
Yeah, perfect.
He's gonna buy it.
As far as I'm aware, it runs on a bump start.
Oh, okay.
It does run on a bump start.
But it is liquid yellow.
And that's cool.
It is liquid yellow.
But, so I'm still considering that car.
I'm not gonna name the person selling it yet
unless I do buy it, but it is very,
very tempting.
So I'm hoping that will stick around.
Obviously if you guys are gonna buy a car and
you can't, maybe not a Renault,
do your research if you're gonna do this.
Because people might list that car without
mentioning anything.
You can go and look at it and you can find,
oh, it's got a little bit of a crack on the
bottom here and you get some money off there,
but you're having that information being
armed with the information that it's been
written off three times.
It's quite helpful.
Because that one, it shows me assessments.
Most other checks won't show you an assessment.
They'll show you if it's been written off,
but obviously there's plenty of times where
someone will have a crash in a car,
but if it doesn't write it off,
you don't necessarily have any paperwork on
you got a paper trail that that has had damage.
Whereas Car Vertical will say,
no, you have an assessment at this point,
then you can look at that and it will say
it's the left, it's the rear,
it's the front.
So you can look at that and say,
and see, oh, okay, the paint is different,
but now I know why.
But obviously if you guys are gonna do a
check, make sure you use our code CREAM.
You get 20% off your next check.
Use the link in our description.
Thank you very much, Car Vertical.
And shout out Creamers who are buying cars this week.
Please, don't do it.
Ben, Jimin.
This is a biggie.
Again, I just want to call back to the bit
where you said, you know, it's only two days.
What could happen in those two days?
What happened in those two days,
Ben?
Nothing, I've got no daily.
Still?
Okay.
Tomorrow's the day, where we'll find out
possibly, 'cause that's what you're doing
tomorrow, right?
Oh, that's weird.
I mean, like what happened in the week?
No, sir, two dailies were on.
No, I mean, yeah, we're on a daily or S2000.
This one?
This one?
Is it, are we telling the story?
Yeah.
Okay, great.
All right.
Please, after you.
I got home, actually, after the last podcast,
we filmed it.
Okay.
I drove home, I've been coming here every day
this week, so it's been a little bit of a
long back and forth.
And for new creamers, how many miles do you
do each way?
90.
But you're almost 200 mile round trip.
Yeah, it's quite tough.
That's nice.
People may ask, why don't you send a hotel?
I don't know that either.
But anyway, I drove home, why don't you buy the hotel?
Yep, the question.
Yeah, question.
6:26 Ben's S2000 Timing Chain Issue
Well, you know, get those checks coming.
(laughs) I was doing little maneuvers.
So the revs aren't that high,
but I kept J-turn.
I had a bit of case a Honda foot,
a little with a pom-mom as I'm doing it.
I heard this, as I came down on the revs,
I kept, you know, we're at this time at RPM,
coming down.
I heard like a little rattle from my foot.
Nah, that's a heat shield.
That'd be fine.
I went to bed and it was fine.
Did you literally hunk shoe?
You were, you were certain type of sleep.
Oh yeah, there's certain type of sleep you
have after doing a big day here.
But it didn't even end to your mind.
I just went, the kind of sleep someone with
no timing chain rattle.
We just have, we just have.
Well, I was worried about it,
but I was like, well, it's dark,
there's no street lights.
I can't involve it to look at it now.
That would be a problem.
I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow.
Next morning I get out, I drive to work at
another 90 miles, which is great.
I get to the unit and I pull up,
I'm like, that's odd.
And Edwin's outside of the unit and I start
going, can you have a look at this?
And we just start giving it a rev and Edwin's
very understanding when it comes to cars.
He tries to make me feel better.
Also, he knows what I'm like and I can tell
he's like, yeah, no, it'd be fine.
I watched him look at it and I watched him
look at it closely.
and I could see him be like,
yeah, it'd be fine.
But I knew they wasn't fine.
And he said to me the words,
take it to evolution or to work.
You just see what they think.
And I was like, okay, that's not good.
So I took it down there.
And anyway, yeah, it was chain rattle.
So tough one.
Well, you've left out a little part of it,
which is obviously we listened to the car.
We said, that does sound weird.
It sounds like it's coming from the front of
the timing area.
Let's take it to evolution or to work.
So they're Honda boys are gonna listen to it
and go, ah, that's the old speckalooza.
Matt may need that change.
And they found it.
And quickly as well.
Immediately, he said, yeah, okay,
that's a weird noise.
And Will and I, Ben left it a little bit
earlier with Patrick, the social guy,
'cause you were gonna potentially film a
video about this.
Ben asked for that for us to be deleted.
(laughing) It's most of it, we have a few shots.
And so Will and I arrived about 20 minutes
late, or 15 minutes later.
And as we pulled up, I saw the look of sadness.
Patrick looked over like, what I can imagine
if someone's pet or something got run over,
and you were running over to the scene,
and someone just looked over and went,
mate, he's not worth it.
Don't go over there.
Give him a sec.
He's not worth it, he's not worth it.
He looked at us with, not happy,
and then Ben looked over, unhappy,
and Adam from each door, they looked over
unhappy, and I said to Will it went,
uh-oh, that's not great.
Also, he's so, I won't have a,
not a rant, but he's so, you guys are so annoying,
man.
(laughing) You said to me, right,
'cause obviously we're doing other stuff,
I don't want to hide out the whole day with
my own car, but also I need to get home.
I understand.
If it's a case with my kind of design chain,
fine, okay, there you go.
(laughing)
If you do that at lunch, that'd be great.
No, I'm saying it is, I know I can't go home,
I'll leave it here.
It happens, it happens, it was hadn't gone,
it was just rattling, so it's like,
it's savable at that point.
So, I was like, cool, they said,
we're gonna get lunch with all the pasta,
my favorite pasta place.
Just a shout out.
Yeah, in Woking Ham.
And then, for some reason, even after they
said, we're gonna get lunch,
they said that, they just arrived.
Out of the exact moment, they found out what was wrong.
Because we realized that Patrick wouldn't be
able to get home, if neither would you,
if there was an issue with the car,
so we went to go and pick it on.
Yeah, I wasn't gonna leave it there anyway,
I was gonna bring it back.
So, what are your people going to eat their pasta?
So, anyway.
Anyway.
Will I turn up?
And we get out, we're like, rolls happening,
and Adam says, yeah, look, there's an issue,
there is some sort of issue here.
And then while he's saying that,
he's just kind of diagnosing,
just checking things, and he checks the dipstick.
And there's nothing on the dipstick.
And he goes, and he says to Ben,
what?
There's no oil on the dipstick.
Actually, the exact ones were,
he said, it would help if you put some oil in it.
Everyone went silent for a second and went,
what?
He went, hold on, let me just double check,
clean the dipstick, put the dipstick in,
hold that out.
Clear, nothing.
Well, that was a tiny bit on the end.
No, there wasn't.
The first time there was, when he cleaned it
and he put it in again, he said,
there's nothing on this side.
It took a certain amount of oil to get it to
make a mark.
The amount of oil was Ben, Ben has asked that
we did not say the amount of oil.
Redacted.
Redacted amount of oil.
It doesn't really help you tell,
it applies a lot.
The Epstein files.
It was missing some oil.
It had some oil in it, but not enough.
I'd say it had some.
It did have some.
But it could have a lot more in it.
It should have a lot more in it.
And they said, well, we'll stop.
And then, oh, you started up and it went away?
Yeah.
Well, that's amazing.
Don't think so, I think it's easier.
The tension on the timing chain,
which they thought it could be,
'cause that's what goes on though is quite a lot.
Obviously, start working 'cause it had oil
pressure again.
Yeah.
So, I was quite happy.
Yeah, you were.
I had quite a tough day.
Now, I wanna, I would like this on record.
Yeah.
This was the same day I found out that my
engine had blown up in my car that was
freshly new to me.
And yet, Ben was like,
Yeah, but no, but it's different.
It's different.
Why is it different?
Because you are, I got no support from you.
Because you don't care.
You just don't care.
Yeah, but also, you have more cars,
you live relatively close by in comparison to
where I live.
You don't rely on it as much.
And then go on, I know it's pain,
but also you have to skill to change engine
and engine is 300 pounds.
So you, it's a five grand engine in minimum.
It's not nice, though, is it?
You know, to have your engine just die.
No, of course not.
Whereas you, you had an escape point happen first.
I mean, in the long run, in the long run,
you might have done so.
But we'll get, you know, we'll leave that for the time.
We'll find that out.
You'll sleep on that or you won't sleep at all.
But you were like, that's it.
That's it, engine gone or I'm gonna have to
do a timing chain.
I'm looking at four figures plus here,
like pocket change to Ben.
And then someone put, someone put a redacted
amount of oil into a car and it was fixed.
It was fine.
No, it was still very annoyed through it.
I actually rather it was a chain.
You should have done the lottery that evening.
What?
I'd rather the chain.
What?
Change the chain and the engine's fine.
Whereas right now, what's happened is--
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Is this a run?
I'm done, problem.
It's been--
I don't want peace.
Sorry, I don't have problems.
Obviously, a rattling chain means the chain's
loose, so it could go, right?
But I would then just wouldn't drive it and
get it done.
Whereas the issue I have now is that what's
happened to it is I possibly done damage
inside the engine I don't know about.
But that's better because you don't know.
No, I think--
That's not, Dan, that's definitely me and you.
Because for you, you're like,
no issue.
For me, I'm like, I don't know.
Exactly, you don't know.
So, here's one thing I would say you should do.
Put oil in your car.
No, no, I was actually, yeah,
well, you should do that.
I should.
That's dumb.
I'm gonna say that now, but everyone has done it.
Well, I haven't done that.
I'm going back to that in a second after your
point, but go on.
Okay.
It is kind of dumb.
No, I think you should do an oil change soon.
Yeah, like ASAP.
Worth it.
Right now.
As soon as I have a daily, I'll sort that car.
Well, what the, you know.
So next week.
Don't worry about an oil pan.
You can just use like a couple more or something.
Yeah, just put like a couple,
like two liters should do.
Why don't you do an oil change?
Because if there might have been any damage,
you might as well--
Don't worry about that.
You've got a redacted percentage mix of oil
now as well.
Plus we can cut open your oil filter and see
if there is any metal shavings or sparkles.
Well, as soon as there's a daily,
I just might as well.
I don't want to drive that car.
I don't want to drive it in the salt,
I don't want to drive the winter.
But if we do an oil change, you might feel
better about it.
If you're doing an oil change and it's all
looking clear and there isn't clumps of eggs
in your oil filter.
Never good.
Never good.
Nice.
'Cause of a, 'cause of an unnamed scenario
that happened recently with the car.
I'm quite gentle in it.
It's been here.
What, pirouette, pins?
I don't think that's what we call it.
I think we just call it "redacted gate".
Okay, fine.
Again, one of the rogers files that we've got.
No, it won't be released that one.
I'll release it, but it will just be black
squares across the entire thing,
yeah.
'Cause of that.
'Cause in black marks across the road.
That car hasn't seen 9,000 off yet,
but four weeks.
So you could be possibly four.
Now, what was the point you wanted to go back to?
My point is, right.
I'm not, I'm in the English,
or I'm not, it is my fault, it is my fault.
It is my fault.
And I have been checking the oil,
but not enough.
And what I didn't know, genuinely didn't
know, 'cause everyone said this,
they're like six people.
There was like
humiliation ritual.
Just be further, evolution was very nice,
and they put oil in it for free and stuff,
and that was very kind of them.
How much will?
I'll redact some alcohol, whether it's a free.
(laughs) Enough where I felt like I should
pay for it.
(laughs)
I thought it was an invoice,
do you hear that?
You've done the filter as well.
No, I do appreciate that, genius.
So thank you, even if it's not works.
But, for me, I was like, I didn't know.
Apparently it's a Honda thing,
but they burn oil.
And everyone is gonna go, "I always said this."
We said this.
I've been, I did, 'cause I said,
"You and me are Hondabuddies.
"We have to top off our oil every few weeks."
I thought Honda's meant to be pretty bulletproof.
They are, but they burn oil,
'cause they rev so hard.
Yeah, but like a 1.4 jazz.
might not need oil every now and then,
but not a 9,000 RPM engine in a six grand car.
So you know what?
So I've been, what I'm trying to say,
sorry, I've been checking it,
but not enough.
And I, actually, to be fair,
they asked me
15:43 Honda Oil Maintenance Discussion
when I last checked, I said,
And I thought back on the drive home,
and I did was a week ago.
I personally.
Two or three years ago.
I personally love the part of the story that,
where he told us it wasn't his fault.
Yeah, this was in the morning.
This was before Ben went to English North,
so Ben got quite shirty with Will and I,
'cause we said, 'cause it was rattling,
and Will and I were like, "Well,
we didn't say it explicitly "that it was your
fault, but we said, "You have exacerbated
this by not buying a daily."
And then said, "It's not my fault.
"Not how can any of this be my fault."
And it was after--
Well, yeah, but that's why I thought that it
was just a normal mileage tensioner thing
that happens with them.
And it took everything in me,
not to say when we were evolutionary,
it's not my fault.
No, but that's a different situation.
Yeah, it is my fault, 100%.
In that scenario, in the scenario where the
tensioner goes, it's a maintenance thing.
They go on them.
So yeah, at the start of the day when I
thought it was a tensioner, look,
God, I wish it was.
We live and we learn and maybe the bearings
learn to live without oil.
Every day's a school day.
Yeah, I hate this.
Yeah.
10, 60 years.
It's only messages and comments being like stupid.
Also, this is afterwards, might be the
closest I've seen Ben coming to actually quitting cars.
Then it was like, I'm not doing--
I actually was.
I want to do cars in a moment.
I'll win my little bet with you,
'cause you were considering selling me off.
And then you told a man who knows engines
very well today that you might.
And he said, oh, I'd be interested in that.
And then you told him this little story and
he went, I don't want that anymore.
And he's owned one before.
Yeah, he's owned one before.
Yeah, yeah.
Now, you had a, you said, I wanted to talk
about something about the podcast because of that.
What was it?
It was when he was telling you about things to do.
Yeah, so both Adam in Luciano Works and Matt
from the engine stuff we had today,
both Adam very well know in Hondas and Matt,
you know, has--
Old engines, so he said he was developing custom cams.
Yeah, fours, 2000s.
They both told me that something,
is it a valve seat or a nut or something
cracks in the AP ones?
Yeah, it's the cap that I think the spring rides on.
And just drops into the engine,
a valve drops the engine.
And they said, get that done.
And I think Matt said, he said to me,
you should do that.
And he said, do it, do it.
And he said, do it, probably 12 times.
And to the point where I started laughing
because I was like, okay, this is this man,
he wants me to do this.
Badly, I needed this.
It was almost like he was saying,
no, whatever's going on right now,
we need to drop.
We need to go and get your car,
we need to do this 'cause it needs to be done.
Yeah, he was, it's always panicking.
Okay, sorry, you sound like Michael Jackson there.
(laughing)
So anyway, that's that, I feel like I had it
and I'm embarrassed about it.
Hey Ben.
And hey, do you know what?
Let's let tens of thousands of people here.
How many times will you now check your oil?
Like how often?
I drove, I've probably done,
since we've done that, I've driven probably
180 miles and I already am nervous about
checking my oil again.
Did you check your oil before you left last night?
No, no, 'cause it was dark.
A question I think I know the answer to,
do you have spare oil in the boot?
No.
Okay.
Oh, that's Ben, that's Project Car 101.
I'll buy some oil, I need to achieve it.
God, I have oil.
I'll do a full oil change next week when I
have a daily house.
We have an oil sponsor and liters and liters
and liters of oil.
Shout out, shout out both of them.
Please, now you are my daily consultants,
please.
Yeah, we will buy you a day.
I actually bet you this week.
(laughing)
Wait, this is the K20.
Don't worry about putting oil in it.
Shall we move on to some news and anecdotes
of the week?
Well, stay on Honda.
Stay on target.
Honda logo.
There it is.
There it is.
It's not new.
This isn't new.
Speak by it, tell the folks what it's about,
but on my sense.
But it is news.
No, it's news, yeah, but go with it.
Who put this in?
Well, I put it in, but I don't
19:22 New Honda Logo Analysis
know anything about it.
Ben knows more than me.
There's a new Honda logo.
But it's not new.
But it's the old logo, right?
It's not exactly.
I was researching it, it's not exactly the
same, but it is basically the old,
the moment I saw it, I was like,
"That's the old one."
For folks listening, I'll just grab it.
Here we go.
I'm actually...
Please describe the original.
You can have, we know.
You just have to imagine a Honda logo in a scenario.
And then you're gonna make it flat.
But what does it look like?
What's a normal Honda look?
In a square.
And it's chrome.
And it's chrome.
And in its opposite of embossed,
beveled.
Nope, comes out of the screen,
not into the screen.
I thought that is beveled, isn't it?
Okay, it's 3D.
It's 3D.
Not the opposite of a concave.
Cool, Vex.
So it's convexed out of the screen.
Okay.
Imagine that, take away the square,
it's in, and then make it flat,
so it's just the H-shape, and then just
stretch it out.
And then, then pull those H-tops out.
Now, I know about this.
Okay.
Because the beginning of last year,
they announced this logo.
And I know, because my brother sent it to me,
'cause he's a graphic designer,
and he likes to send me logos.
So, I remember him telling me that.
And what it was originally was the electric,
for the new electric cars they were using
that logo, and now they're using it for everything.
I do like it.
I don't mind it.
It feels a bit, you know, I don't really
think it was it.
It's a bit necessary.
Yeah, it feels just, also, that Honda H is iconic.
I wonder how much it cost.
Yeah.
Well, they went to design, so yeah,
we've all sort of asked a million quid that is.
Couple million.
They used to raise the edge and went,
"God damn it, he's got it."
And then they probably, they went,
"Hold on, make it black, stretch it out."
And then they put it in word and went,
"Oh, that's not gonna fit properly,
yes, I know it's fine."
Yeah, it'd be fine.
It's Friday.
Yeah.
And so look, 'cause the old one fits nicely
as like a badge on a car, is that sort of gonna float.
Yeah.
Now it looks like a aftermarket,
sticker or something.
It looks less like an H to me now and like
something else.
Like what?
What other letter?
Join looks like.
Yeah, like an A.
No, like a bridge.
It does look like a bridge, yes.
That's fair.
Yeah, that's a good one.
You think it's like, you know what,
that's what the marketing firm would have said.
It's a bridge.
Yeah.
Do you know what actually is?
It's two petrol cars, an electric car.
True, they said.
And we're on the bridge, but it's one of
those folding bridges where sometimes it goes
up and lets you fall in.
No, can I, actually, when the electric one
came out, they announced what it was,
the design was.
Oh, I see.
I think what it is, is it's actually inverted
color, so that's a, one of that top one is a
gear, like a toothed
gear, and the one at the bottom is another
gear, and it's like they're meshing together,
and they said we've got no idea what we're talking about.
Enjoy.
I think they removed a little rim from the
edge, because they said they removed that,
because it was keeping Honda contained,
and we know no boundaries.
I think that's quite good.
Okay, this is a direct quote.
"This design expression, like two
outstretched hands represents Honda's
commitment to augment the, to augment."
That's the one I can't read.
"Honda's commitment to augment the
possibilities of mobility and sincerely serve
the needs of the users of Honda EVs,"
said the brand.
You know, that's even worse than we came up with.
Yeah.
Like, ours was better.
Yeah, that was right.
I read out reaching hands, and I was like,
I don't see hands, I just see a bridge.
A bridge is good.
Me when I can't find my German friends,
but I like the landscape.
But I am in San Francisco.
Okay, so yeah, Wack, New Hunger logo,
here are actually an amazing marketing team.
Yeah, so we're all millions,
I think.
Let's go.
Also, I got one for it.
Okay, looks more modern.
That's the Ben, Audi lights type B again.
But it is, but it's not that.
We want to change it because we want to make
our cars more modern.
So we've got a modern logo, done,
easy for us.
So why did you change it?
It was new, isn't it?
It's simplified.
Better in it.
It's new.
Why, when it looks better?
That's what we've got to say,
yeah.
I've got to justify it, just try to justify it,
man.
Just saying I've had a haircut,
you know, why did you have that haircut?
Well, I thought you know, I'd go for the
mohawk 'cause it sort of connects the back of
my head to my spine.
It represents the traveling from one part of
my life to the other, as you can see by the line.
Just as you'd be told, like therapy or
something, just, it doesn't need to make
sense to anyone but you, all right?
It's just what you want to think.
The people that do that, the same people that
get tattoos and explain them,
they go, "I got a clock because actually the
clock was about my nan and how she loved the time."
And also about my favorite magazine,
The Radio Time, that's what that was about.
Share.
You want to tell us what Will has no tattoo?
No, you do.
I do.
On your.
One day you'll show it at a cream meet.
I think they're on my arms to be fair that yeah.
I'll wait if you don't tell the ones that you can show.
Flash your trams then.
Wait till we get that page drunk guy,
guys.
Biggest.
Oh.
This is actually massive news.
This is microcar related news.
Don't know.
It's there.
Behind you.
It's not funny.
It's a serious motor.
There's a world record.
There is a world record.
And we need to beat it.
I think we can.
I really think we're gonna need to.
I know like timing is not really allowed on
the ring, is it?
But I think we need to shut it down.
Well, you know, technically we need to rent
out the entire Nurburgring to do to set a time lap.
Yeah.
Who needs to talk to you?
Well, that's Peter Strander from "Let's Tress".
Peter Strander.
I don't know if the Nurburgring.
He also loves that joke, doesn't he?
He really does, wasn't he?
Shut up, basically.
He just agitates himself.
He really annoys.
Well, TRS, I said, hello, Pete Strander,
owner of the Nurburgring, and I got a couple
of, I was about to say slurs,
no, they're not slurs.
It's cold, perhaps.
No, no, they were, it was profanity.
He's good with the jokes, but I don't think
he loves that one.
It's completely uncalled for and completely
random, so I can understand why you.
Also about a dream.
Yeah.
So what is this news about this ninky dog?
French manufacturer Ligiere,
which is the company.
Which is the same manufacturer as Alan Inking.
As Microco.
Horse power, JS-50 microcard to set the
official record for the slowest notebook ring nap ever.
And it was, how long?
It was 28 minutes, 25 seconds,
0.8.
It's a 959.
No, that, I mean, I think we could crack half an hour.
I want to know, I want to know what
constitutes the slowest.
Did
they imply that you have to be going at
10/10, or can I just drive around at 10 miles an hour?
Do you want to know something,
10 miles an hour?
No, you think you do.
Do you want to know something that would
clear our record when it comes to Alan Inking?
I mean, our little mistake.
It's diesel powered.
This one?
Diesel.
See, they knew it.
That's what they watched our video when we
should change it.
But hold on, would beating the record mean
that we go slower or quicker?
'Cause I like either.
No, I want to go slower.
That'd be tough.
Because if you could quit quicker than it,
we're second bottom.
You know how in, on the Sabine Schmitt's
transit video, they had a Viper giving them
clean air in front?
Yeah.
We need something giving it dirty air to slow it down.
So with a fan blowing it.
Blowing it slower.
Yeah, exactly.
It's just that on the wettest day.
As we've selected all of the corners.
You are going off.
Previously, previous slow car was set in 1960
by a trabant.
So 28 minutes.
So it's a low power.
Now, here's why I think we possibly won't be slower.
Because we've tested the top speed.
We got 69 more now?
67?
67 more.
That's the speed limit.
Yeah, it is.
Almost the speed limit.
What did they get to in those?
So the top speed of the JS50 is 28.
Oh, that's rough.
I actually don't know how much power the Nincunoc makes.
I think we'll have to test that.
Now we could put the limiter on it.
Yeah.
We could put the opposite of the McLaren F1.
It was too fast, so we just had to bring it down.
So I think Misha, someone fast,
get him in the Nincunoc.
Now, what if we, the day that we do finish,
we do do the bike engine swap in the
microcarve, which we do want to do.
It would be really fast.
It would be funny to take that to the other group.
It would be cool.
It would be whoever's in it is dead.
We would knowingly be killing Misha.
Yes.
He's got a wife of kids.
I think it'd be awesome.
But we would be killing him.
Yeah.
Well, Liz, you know, if you're listening,
if that's how you say it, we're up for anything.
We're willing to bring the heritage fleet in
the Nincunoc out.
We've got a parade lap.
It will be going for two days.
This route lap.
24 hours of Nincunoc would be fantastic.
Why look at that?
You can tell it's like a modern version of it.
You're flying, you see how it's almost,
what's it called?
I like the rear looking like a smaller vogue.
Yeah, the rear, that's what it's about.
What's it called?
When it does that, it sits sloping forward.
Oh, rake, rake, yeah, it's got a sort of rake to it.
And you see how the rear lights are really
high up the back, a bit like our Nincunoc.
It's got that sort of like, it has,
it has crossfire vibes, where it sort of
looks like it's squatting down,
like the classic dog phrase.
To me, it's a vogue vibe.
We could have just taken design limits.
Also, yeah, if you have a press car,
not sorry press car, a car that will not no
longer be used and needs to be crushed.
We could make something happen.
We could make press car because we could do a
little comparison.
Right, Ben, that's your new daily,
28 miles away.
Possibly better than my house.
(laughs)
It's diesel.
How would you know?
Eight holes fell.
Yeah, yeah.
Sad news.
Yeah.
Well, it's not sad, it is sad news.
There is, it was kind of already known that
BMW, the next generation M3,
there would be an electric version,
an all-electric version of it.
It's this Neu class thing, but they've been
28:41 BMW M3 Electric Version News
talking, they've announced it's gonna have a
real drive mode.
Oh, no way.
Oh man, exciting.
I'm sorry, I'm actually yawning.
That was unrelated, but I'll be honest,
until I read into it, I didn't know that it
was confirmed, basically there was gonna be
an all-electric M3.
No, is that a, there will be an all-electric
M3 offered, but there will also be an engine one?
That I don't know yet.
Okay, hold on, I'm gonna read my case.
If that is the case, if it's an option,
fine.
If you'd like to choose it, you may choose
it, but if it's saying the M3 is the one that
is all-electric, L.
Yeah, no, that's more like L3,
am I running?
You can't do that.
Unless they're gonna go, "Oh,
here's an M4."
I'm like, "I want my four doors."
I can get the four doors.
Four doors must be, so apparently it's gonna
have four motors, so like most cars have like
a twin motor thing, like a dual motor that
goes front and rear, but this will be four
motors, so it can do each sort of like individual wheel.
Which means it can do a full sort of real
drive type thing, but I mean,
I just don't care.
I'm so bored of hearing about it.
Yeah.
It's like, "Guys, make your car."
Also make the car then.
Just stop telling me you're gonna make it.
And just make it.
What makes it worse, sort of rubbing the
little salt in the wound, is emulated gear
shifts, and like an M, because it was at Hanzema.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Doing, sorry, an M-style soundscape to make
it feel like a petrol car.
But it's like, if you're gonna make the
electric, just make the electric one the electric one.
And my biggest issue with it is that when you
do this whole thing where it's like,
you've made the soundscape, so it sounds like
a petrol, and we've put a simulated gear.
Okay, so you know that it's boring without
it, so you're putting elements of petrol car.
It's not banned.
Yeah.
You can put a petrol car engine in.
Why are you doing this?
They have just read, so the plan is,
is there will be a petrol powered one alongside it.
So that's fine.
I'm gonna take that.
They're saying 2027.
Okay.
So we're not that far away.
We're not far.
But I just don't like the idea of there even being one.
That's bad and trying to soar in old school
and whatever, but I don't like the idea.
Why does it have to be an M3?
Yeah.
I get it, probably sell.
Also call it an E3.
Yeah.
Make a M3.
Yeah, make it, make it its own things.
It's not making things go.
An M-E.
A M-E.
(laughs)
Yeah, so electric M3.
No, thanks.
We just confirmed you've
been, like, Ben, God's hell.
Ben was gone just for a moment
there, but there will be a petrol one alongside it.
Okay.
Well, I mean, that's fine then.
Yeah.
Because no one's gonna buy that.
I think they will though, they won't.
I think they will, but not enough for them to
go, I will get rid of the petrol one.
Do you know what?
I said the same thing about the G80.
I said no one's gonna buy this fucking fish
mouth thing and get it.
That's fair, bear everywhere.
Endearing qualities to it.
The thing about that is that I think nine
people will buy it and they will all go.
No, it's amazing.
Is that a prediction?
I think very more than that.
But like, there'll be not very many in the
buy it, but the ones that do will go,
"It's so good."
And then everyone will go, "Yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah."
I think the problem will be the petrol version.
It has something to compare to.
So immediately, it would almost be worth being doubly.
I don't want them to do this.
Committing goes empty, it's now electric.
Because they compare it to the old one,
but it'll be people like us going,
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, The main thing is that people...
Okay, imagine they made in the lab an orange.
And they go on.
It's more nutritious.
Okay.
Sure.
Maybe it's better for you.
It's a more perfect looking thing.
It works better.
It's overall a better
product.
It's faster.
Imagine it's a car.
If you throw this orange, it will go quicker
than you've ever seen an orange move.
But then the orange enthusiasts come in and they go...
Okay, but you're missing the...
But it doesn't smell like an orange.
Or taste.
A synthetic one doesn't taste.
It sort of, it has an emulated orange taste.
Yeah, it tastes like a smell is gone.
It tastes like when you taste a sweet is orange.
Or do you think it's like a,
yeah, or like a.
Or a hard boiled sweet.
Like a hotel, breakfast buffet,
orange juice, where it's sort of watered down
and you can sort of terrible.
Is orange juice?
Sure.
And you know what is, that orange juice is
faster, it's more efficient.
Yep, it's all of the above.
But you're missing the point.
Exactly, you're missing the point.
The orange was there.
We were here.
It's a sweet little treat given to us by our green earth.
You know what, maybe it was the orange we
made along the way.
The orange you grew up with.
Exactly, it's the one.
What is this podcast?
Next up, it's motorbike related.
Yeah, but it's actually interesting.
Can I go home?
No, no, you can't, I'm interested.
I wanna hear this, I don't care.
This is like a concept thing from Envy
Augusta, which is a really, really cool motorbike brand.
The reason I like Envy Augusta is because it
was in test drive.
My dad had Envy Augusta and it was somewhat
looking like,
I think it is an F4, but the F4,
I don't know what F4 tambourini means,
I don't know what that means,
but I was like, well, that's amazing,
that's the car from the game.
That's amazing.
Someone made the game in real life,
that's amazing.
But they're quite good looking bikes.
Sure.
From what I've seen.
But anyway, they've sort of announced this
concept engine, which is five cylinder.
So it's not like an inline five,
it's more sort of, they've calling it a sort
of square trapezoid, the Italian name for
that, is, is, is, is, is, is,
is quadrato, quadrato.
But I'm intrigued to hear what it sounds,
because it's going to rev to 16,000 RPM.
That's interesting.
The reason I'm interested in it,
is because I want it in the beat.
Yeah, five cylinder in the beat.
It's going to be like a modular type thing,
so they'll better put it in different levels of bikes.
So they're saying from like 850 CC up to like
1100 or so.
The only thing I don't like about this photo,
and I'm not, please, no suing me,
it looks AI.
It looks like an AI photo.
When you look closely at it,
it's all weirdly smooth.
Yeah.
And there's probably a render.
Yeah, exactly, but it's in, it feels more like AI.
It is, well, that's AI to me.
I don't know, there's much to be me.
You see, I don't know what that is,
the holes on top of it.
Do you see the metal?
Do you see the metal?
That's exactly what I was thinking.
It feels like if it went, hey,
here's a more polished version of that.
And it's sort of like you look at it and they
look a little bit off.
AI render or not, I don't care if that's a real thing.
I'm excited.
Do you want to know how much power it should make?
If it's most extreme, I did see.
Quite crazy.
How much?
240 horsepower.
That's a much, it'd be a 1.1 at that stage.
As much as your S2000.
It did make before, as well.
Did you little cylinders?
1.1 and it's got five of those bad boys to go.
Sorry to do it.
Okay, imagine that noise, 'cause I don't know
how
the sort of the, whatever it's V type thing,
how that's
going to make that sound.
Well, it's going to be five cylinders.
There should in theory.
It could be our five still has that.
The five still has a five pot noise.
So five, five's the magic number when it
comes to the noise.
That's 240 horsepower, even what's any 200
horsepower would be M your gust to start.
In engines, in cars.
In cars.
Silly buggers.
Also 16,000, did I say that?
You did, you did.
Also 16,000.
I've had 240 horsepower.
What is it?
Five
cylinders.
What is it, Revter?
16,000.
16,000.
Okay, let's start.
16,000.
Sorry, we've already talked about this,
man.
How much is it, Revter?
We've talked about this, man.
How many?
We've got to move past 10,000.
Five, five.
Revving to 16,000.
Wow.
10,000.
What have we got next?
We've got next, Ben.
We've got next, Ben.
Well, perfectly fitting, a car crash,
a new Ben.
I might as well run out of the week.
Okay.
Yes, stay.
I was going home in my daily.
It had oil in it.
Well, I think--
For a change?
Possibly not at that point.
No, it did.
Oh, it did at that point, yes,
sorry.
I think had oil.
We hope.
Sure.
36:30 Motorway Crash Traffic Incident
From where we are now, onto the dual carriageway.
Cool.
Cool.
From directly from here.
Yeah, we are.
There's a money drive.
And as I joined on there, there was lots of
traffic, standstill traffic.
Of course.
And as I moved along, creeping along,
left leg burning on the clutch.
Yeah.
Oh, of course, I mean, bad has happened here.
I saw lights.
I guess what the crash was, what was it?
The other side of the road.
Okay.
And the reason that the dual carriageway was
standstill traffic, because everyone was
stopping to look at this, what I think was a fatal crash.
Oh.
It was looked very bad.
And there were people on our side of the road
who were slowing down a dual carriageway.
Yeah.
There wasn't a box at all to look at this.
To look at this.
To standstill?
That's quite cool.
No.
Because they weren't stuck, because sometimes
they stop the other side.
If someone's been like, but sort of,
you don't know the other side.
That might be the case.
It wasn't since I was very long.
I probably got through it in a few minutes.
But the fact that it's because everyone,
have you ever seen that Japanese experiment they did?
Yes.
Where they just show how traffic can slow for no reason?
Yeah.
And it goes to Chris Chappell.
It was that.
And I was shocked.
I drove past.
the necking, but I was like,
that is crazy.
Also, what's wrong with you?
You wanna look at a possible fatal accident
and a guy led on the road.
I've said it before.
I believe the people who do this are the most
soulless, weak humans on earth because how
empty is your life that you must slow
everyone else's day down for you to get a
quick look at something?
And also, move on with your day,
get a hobby because what are you doing?
You're doing something to look at the other
side of the road.
But the thing is, you clown,
you chopper, you go.
And you put it in there, but that's why I put
it in there.
You can do nothing in that scenario because
you're not part of it.
You can't help the paramedics,
right?
All you can do is carry on going and just
not, no one wants an audience in that situation.
No.
And I don't know, it could have been
perfectly fine, it was a little bump,
but what I could see at the speed limit as I
went past it, not sticking with the steering.
Oh, you had a look.
Well, I didn't slow down.
I went past, I had a half a second glance
over my shoulder, my shoulder,
that was driving.
That would be crazy.
Well, it's 'cause you were spinning across the road.
I've never done that.
As I drove past it, I looked to my right,
but at a normal speed, and it,
'cause it looked, I wondered,
I thought there was something on our side of
the road that happened, like someone gone
through the barrier onto our side,
nothing.
Yeah.
So what, you should, never want to be able to
stay, it's rude.
And you can't do anything to help.
I'm sure, you've got nothing else to look at,
but just carry on with your data.
I haven't do you, you're not helping,
you're just, and stop staring at people in
horrible situations.
It is what, I think it is the thing that
annoys me the most, is rubber looking.
Just go, man, you're on a road,
if you're on the road, if you're in a car,
if you're inside a motor vehicle,
it means you need to go from one place to
another, you're not out there for fun,
you're not just doing laps of the M25 looking
for things to look at, go to the thing you
need to go to, stop.
Anyway.
I still maintain, I mean, I don't know the
result of that crash.
No, it's all right.
If it was fatal.
Rip, but how you crashing on a motorway,
man?
I don't know.
Why do I see crashes on a motor?
I'm like, how?
This is a straight line.
I know it's the fastest you can go,
basically.
But there are some country roads that are 60
miles an hour, some country roads,
and people just manage.
You might get a click wing mirror,
but on the motorway, we'll start to go,
well, I'll barrel roll, won't I?
I think I'll barrel roll into the other side
of the motorway, actually.
I want to be somewhere, but I don't,
I'll just smash into something.
Ben, it's just people inept at driving.
People going, I'm going to pull over here.
Oh, there was a person I didn't see.
Cool, we're both now spinning down the road.
I don't know, quick pause, whatever.
I don't know what happened.
I couldn't see, also didn't really want to,
because I don't want to see a fatal crash.
But in what scenario do you crash?
What I'm saying is I don't know.
What I'm saying is we'll come back to boat now.
I don't know, crash on my own.
I think as a morally good person,
it's kind of rude.
If, to look at that, I think you should show
them expect and just drive past it.
And not only the fact that it's encompassing
everyone else's day on the other road,
who have nothing to do with it,
but just stop staring at that.
I mean, if someone got killed,
you would just stand there and stare at them.
It's so weird, just go.
Yeah, it's a weird, what is the word,
like morbid curiosity thing,
where it's like, "Ooh, what can happen?"
"Oh, I can tell my mate when I get home about this."
You see that crash over town around.
It doesn't matter, move on with your life.
But I don't want to see that.
It's like just going to hospitals and just
looking in rooms.
"Oh, yeah, what happened here?"
"That's crazy, what happened to you?"
"In surgery?"
"Oh, man."
"Oh, bloody hell."
"Heart surgery."
"I'm just going to look at this guy."
"What's
happened to you?"
"Yeah, that's tough."
"Go away."
"Hello,
would you?"
"Let's say someone falls over in the street."
"I'm looking at that."
"If there's people with them helping,
I'm walking past."
"Although, I would carry on at the same pace."
"Unless it was like an old woman."
"We would speed up."
"They're onto me."
"If it was an old woman, I'd slow down."
"What is it like?"
"Is it a look?"
"No, it's in like, I might have to help."
"No, exactly, yeah."
"But none of the people in the road are
going, 'Oh, I better get off at the next
exit.'" "Exit, whiz back around 10 miles and
see if I can help."
"I like Ben's story from last week's Audi idea."
"He came off of a crash to the car upside
down and just looked straight ahead."
"So, not my business."
"I should not be looking."
"Man, I was like, 'Now, help."
"If you are an off-duty paramedic."
"No thanks."
"You're an off-duty paramedic and you think I
can actually help here?"
"I think someone that actually can help them
or there's no one's got there yet and you
tell them to get out of the car."
"Exactly."
"But you're on the other side of the road."
"Exactly."
"Nothing to do with you."
"If there's a crash in Swindon right now,
I'm not going to walk there."
"Look at that."
"They need me."
"Yeah, I just drive past that little look."
"No!"
"Just firing."
"Anyway, that was my rant, so I thought you'd
appreciate that."
"I was excited by that because that was the
day of the…" "What you thought I crashed my car?"
"No."
"In the car, I better messes the cream chat."
"Now, I thought you'd come upon another crash
and you were helping another man."
"Oh, no."
"That's not so Ben.
Ben is now vigilante."
"Yeah, he also helps car crashes."
"You do one nice thing and you get roast on
the podcast, right?"
"You're a robinator."
"I'm not."
"I just drove."
"You know what Ben is?"
"Ben's the Nightcrawler."
"Ben's just going around looking for things to fill."
"He's Nightcrawler."
"You never watch Nightcrawler."
"Oh, Nightcrawler, yes."
"Yeah, that's what you are."
"Yeah."
"You're waiting, you're listening to police
radios going, 'Crashed down the road,'
right?"
"I'll be there."
"Let's go get a film."
"Very good film."
"Shout out to you, I think of that one."
"Yeah."
"Also Jake Gyllenho."
"That's the one?"
"He's not a car, he's not a."
"We'll give you a
43:14 Corvette ZR1X Performance Claims
teacher look, then."
"Yeah."
"Shout out."
"Stop talking, now we're doing this."
"Next up, we have from you, Ben."
"Oh, sure."
"You've got this one."
"Sure."
"You've got information for this one."
Corvette ZR1X.
We've seen this.
"Yes, we've seen this."
"I have."
"This is mental."
"This is mental."
"I believe it's electric power as well."
"It's a mixture of both."
"They've now tested it."
"They've done their official track time."
"I have confirmed from what I've read."
"Oh, Ben's confirmed."
"So it's probably not true."
"But I've confirmed from all my sources."
"Yeah."
"How are you doing, isn't that?"
"Well, Will has the guess."
"Road tyres."
"9.2."
"Road tyres."
"9.4."
"Okay, and not 16."
"No, fair away."
"No, seriously."
"No, seriously."
"And not 16."
"1.8."
"Okay, 1.68."
"What the shit?"
"There's no way that road tyres."
"8.67."
"8.6."
"I think it's a real check."
"I think it's 8.68 or something."
"There are fully built drag cars on slicks
that are built to go in
a straight line that aren't doing that."
"Not 60 in 1.68 seconds on the drag strip."
"8.67 seconds at 159 miles an hour."
"You can't do it, that's not legal."
"Surely not."
"It was equipped with," hold on,
I'll go over it here.
"So this car
was on a prepped surface."
"There's no one X complete the course model."
"8.6 seconds on pump gas using standard
equipment tyres and production 50 state legal
engine calibrations."
"I mean, that could be like a semi-slick."
"I don't know that."
"Yeah, I think it's on a very old."
"No, I think it's on like a budget."
"It probably got a heart one from a logo."
"Yeah, set of flavours, is it?"
"Yeah, great tyre."
"Oh, the car was equipped with the standard
air configuration.
Standard Michelin PS4S tyres."
"I mean,
again, I can't remember what I saw it
recently, but there's
a few of the huge power, like 1,400
horsepower M140s, that
four-wheel drive again.
Slicks, lightweight, and they're
just getting into the eights,
like high eights."
"Yeah, I
mean, well, America."
"Think I'll just take that down a local direction."
"No, I think this was independent."
"I think this was independent."
"I want to see…" "You don't believe it,
do
you?"
"No, I don't believe it."
"The numbers don't make
sense."
"Can you get the clip up?"
"Yes."
"In 1.9 seconds."
"No, but then Shada."
"There's electric in it."
"Yeah, but it's hybrid."
"Yeah."
"He's got a VA motor in there."
"He's like doing most of the work."
"This was it called, you know,
in the boys where you get injected with V."
"That's that."
"Yeah, you're a superhero."
"You just made this absolute monster of a thing."
"Here we go."
"This is a YouTube video from…" "A fair YouTube video."
"It is generally."
"It is generally."
"But there is, I think people have been
doing, like, outside testing and confirming it."
"But this is propaganda."
"Yes, you're fine, why not?"
"If you look at the screen, you'll see that
is an
absolutely ridiculous launch."
"Do you see the drag racing series?"
"Shut up, Kletus McFarland, he does."
"You see the full run from the outside."
"You see the full run from the inside."
"You see the full run from a fly-by."
"It's good."
"It feels correct."
"Now, Grand, you did tell me that with the
drag racing series."
"Exactly."
"But it builds tension when you do it like that."
"Yes, because also, we're not looking at you
guys launching."
"Look at that quick.
It looks quick if you cut it quickly."
"Whereas that, I want to see you start to finish."
"Also, we're possibly saying that as a
factory car, that's got more in it."
"Yo, yeah."
"Oh, yeah."
"There's more wack on a set of slicks."
"Shoop in a remap."
"Shoop in a remap."
"Yeah, but that's insane.
Could we see a Corvette that's running like a
low eight or a seven or something with very
minimal things done to it?"
"And you can just drive off and go home."
"Yeah, that should be crazy."
"Speaking of America, I've put something in there."
"Because, have you seen this?"
"There is a Mustang S.
It's a Mustang Dark Horse SC."
"So it is essentially a mini version of the
GTD, which I find really funny because in
America, GTD is like, 'Whoa,
it's pretty cool.'
Now, that's the goal for these we'll make in the UK.
That's not that impressive for the great
GTD's kind of slow-pecking order."
"At least 70 MPG."
"So, the Dark Horse that we had,
a five-litre V8 in the America X500 Raw
Power, then the GTD has a 5.2 supercharged
that I think it makes 8.15, something like
that, that's a lot.
They are now making a Dark Horse SC,
which has the same engine as the GTD without
all of the mental arrow kit stuff.
And I really like how it looks.
It has like a and it has, I can't place my
finger on it.
It's almost some sort of like BMW front bumper.
Also, look at a transformer.
Can we?
Does, yeah.
What's that?
Fitment.
The Fitment is looking rambunctious.
Now, manufacturers often get this,
well, they're always getting it wrong for
whatever reasons, regulations,
bloody bloody bad.
But the app that is a stupendous Fitment for
a manufacturer.
And I think from memory as well,
when I read it up, I will quickly pull out
Mel that there is like a normal version and a
track pack version.
And that's the track pack version.
So you've got, you can do angry track stuff,
or you can have just a kind of road car.
That with no wind would be nice.
You'd be really nice.
So let me get you up some--
49:07 Mustang Dark Horse SC Discussion
Also, USi markers, I like--
Not when you map them in in this country,
but I quite like them.
Okay, yeah.
The engine is the same found in the GTD.
We're talking 804 horsepower here.
What's going on?
I feel like we're getting towards end game,
where it's just manufacturers going.
I don't care anymore, it's a thousand,
have it.
This is the Golf GTD.
It has 900 horsepower.
And not to say, I was going to call tomorrow,
nine.
I feel like nature is healing.
Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.
Please, I redacted my statement.
They have not announced the number for that.
The GTD's number is 804, 3050.
Still, it's going to be a--
So they're thinking it's going to be around 700,
750.
Oh, it was a point.
I don't care about this.
I would--
Yeah.
I would like to speak about America as well.
Please speak about that.
We're going.
We're going.
We're going.
We're going.
We're both asking.
We've never been to Monterey Car,
we can give a good--
For our first time.
We're going to hear a speak about it again,
It's time we're going bigger and better.
No more electric cars.
And no more electric cars.
We're not going to be doing a podcast in the
failing light within a car park of a charging station.
You might.
And we're going to find Mr.
Bugger.
We're going to find him.
We're going to assault him.
We're going to find him because he didn't
respond to my message.
Mr.
Bugger, I want a photo of me in front of Mr.
Bugger.
Can we get all of us, but like--
No, the car, the car, the car,
yeah.
Like a last night out for us.
Last night out for the--
Yeah, back.
And we look already miserable,
we go sick night out of my boys,
yeah?
Mate, I love you.
Unreal, man.
Had the best time.
Look at my face, can you not take me back to Mr.
Bugger?
You didn't respond, so--
So now we have to find it.
We're taking it personally.
And then we'll camp out his car until he arrives.
No, do you remember we saw it?
I know exactly where it is.
Okay.
I know the road, I don't know the street,
I know all of it.
So we get it again.
But this time the podcast will come to you
from, I think we should aim for something.
What does that mean?
I want to get some deck chairs,
and I want to do a podcast on 17 Mar Drive.
Okay, we can do that.
Either.
You're gonna go way more spot style.
Oh hell yeah.
Shout out way though.
We're not copying anything, but we're not
gonna do that.
I heard by way, man.
Lots of seals that make noise though,
might be an issue.
No, it will just not be either of them.
I have Ben's S2000 engine right now.
Should you do it on the golf course next to it?
Yeah sure, we're not.
Right, well so we will keep Monterey talk to
a minimum until we're there.
We know you tire of it.
It's confirmed.
But it's confirmed.
So you can also, if any of you,
you lot are going, or you know anyone,
or if you know anything about anything at all
about Monterey, or you're going,
it's good, bigger and harder and better.
We'll go into the quail.
And if we don't get a ticket,
we're breaking into the quail.
If you work at the quail, or you work for a
manufacturer, or a brand or a catering
company that isn't the other quail,
we'll happily work on our--
If you've got one like a box big enough to
get us all in, we're happy to smuggle.
Three of us will go in, only one of them I come out.
Do you want these guys said to me,
they were dead, they said, oh Ben,
what if we only get two tickets?
What would you do?
And I was like, well, I'm not going,
obviously.
No, we make sure you got it.
We made sure, yeah, we dress you up in a,
like a bright shirt and say,
this is called Marissa.
All of life is confidence, you just go in.
Exactly.
You say I'm a Christian Moncone executive.
You look up, you're gonna
52:11 Forum Question: Reliable Daily Driver
have to make some changes.
Yeah, if we shaved you like,
smooth.
I'm not shaving my head for the crick foot.
You wouldn't go trying to get into the quail like that.
Do you know what, I've got a bet though.
Yeah.
Oh, no, I'm not shaving my head.
Okay.
I have a forum question, go on.
I came up the other day and I just thought I
thought it might be interesting.
forum question from Ivan Foresty,
or Ferresty.
How do you define if a car is reliable enough
to be a daily driver?
Where do you research usually?
And what are the biggest red and green flags?
Love the podcast and a proud creamer from Italy.
Okay.
That's me.
Yes, please, after you.
Well, I'm actually in the market for a
reliable day driver.
No, I've been told the basically,
every time I say it needs to be reliable,
I get laughed at.
Because apparently every car's reliable.
No, not every car's reliable.
It's more that you believe that every car is unreliable.
No.
That's not true.
You say to me, you go absolutely sorry.
It's like, what is it, N47?
Yeah.
In the 320 day, famously, the timing chains go.
Now, just let me finish, let me finish.
And that's fine.
That happens on cars.
My beef with it is that the famous thing is
that it's at the back of the engine,
against the firewall, so you have to hit the
engine out to get to it.
And I don't want to do that.
Hence, the reason I don't want that car.
Now, it might not go, I know that some of
them do 200,000 miles, 300,000 miles,
and they don't go.
But I don't want to deal with that.
If that's a possibility, I don't want to
speak and make fun of me.
Right.
You said I know some of them can do that.
No, most of them do it.
The majority of cars are fine and work.
I know that.
It's the reason that they're out there on the road.
Of course.
It's a very small minority, and you can
usually avoid the car by doing the research.
It's in a specific car that's going to be bad
by doing the research.
I know that, but my thing about it is that if
it went, "Oh, yeah, time chains are known on
those," but it's at the front of the engine,
and you can do them, and it's,
you know, it's a hundred quil,
like a normal time chain, is to change rather
than it's an engine out job,
I'd probably consider it, but I don't want to
deal with that because it's not--
Technically, not an engine out job,
it's a gearbox out job.
Is it?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, anyways, what I know is that it's a
headache, and what I'm saying is that,
I'm agree with you, I totally,
the most part of the probably five you look
after them, what I'm saying is that if there
is a possibility of a known issue,
and that that is a massive pain to do,
I don't want that.
The problem is--
You will find that with every car.
Yeah, you are going to find the problem is no
one goes on the internet or no one's going to
come up to you and say, "My car ran perfectly today."
in these cars, there are plenty of people,
and it is probably the majority of them.
Remember, we are in since the end,
we are on the internet going,
"What's wrong with my car?
"My car made this noise, what's that?"
But 90% of the people owning those kind of
cars, daily drives, golf diesels,
whatever, they just drive them,
and it works, it goes to the mechanic and
they might fix it every now and then.
Here's my question, how many times have you
heard of a Clio 182 or 172 jumping,
timing, and messing up his engine?
Not very often, I think it was.
So it's just as likely to not happen to you
as it is to happen to you.
Yeah, but what I mean is that then,
by only thing, if it's no issue,
and it's the very expensive issue to fix,
I usually just want to avoid it.
If it is a no issue, and to be fair,
for example, 320 is a no issue.
I'm not saying it's gonna go,
the class thing is if people go,
"I've done an oil change every seven
minutes," and it's fine, it's like,
"Okay, great."
You don't know that person, do you?
No, I don't, no, no, no, no.
It's worth doing the research sometimes,
so you can go.
Okay, this car's up.
50,000 mile oil service gap.
I should probably avoid this one,
but I reckon there are probably more people
who aren't, it's like the EcoBoost wet belt thing.
There is genuinely some form of issue there,
so there is stuff to avoid.
If you're buying a car that's got 150,000
miles, or 100,000 miles, and it's never had
that job done, and it hasn't had regular oil
changes, you know to avoid it.
So forums and stuff, it's useful,
but don't always let it completely put you
off, 'cause you're gonna find that everywhere.
Even things like, Toyota's, Hondas,
you do your research enough,
you'll find it in, you'll find something that
goes, oh well, the injectors die on this,
this dies on this, or this dies on this,
there are always gonna be problems,
'cause cars need maintenance,
unfortunately.
Mine, I love it.
Interesting.
Another thing that I like to do,
which is much less
analytical or proper research-y,
look at what cars you see on the road.
That's true, how many E90 320Ds you see driving around?
Quite a lot, but my millions.
'Cause I'll be looking at two-litre TDIs,
VW 'cause it's just engine, just what most of
them have, and if you look online,
it will go, injectors, and there's something
else which I've now forgotten.
Hold on, just gotta make up a lie.
I know this guy actually wants to,
hold on, let me think of it.
The classic thing you see with that,
from what the research I've done,
is it's charge-coolers that leak coolant and
injectors, but then also, if I drive home
now, I will see--
Yeah.
They're fine.
Yeah.
Which is true, and also, the other thing that
I, you're probably better off buying an
unreliable model that's been well looked
after than a very reliable--
Absolutely.
A reliable, like a Honda, for example,
that has me looked after.
My, the story I always like to use with this,
is that when I was much younger,
my dad bought a six or seven-year-old V10
Tuare, great, perfect.
And it had like 30,000 miles on it,
and I think he said it was the most he'd ever
spent on a car, 'cause it was,
he didn't usually buy a new stuff.
We moved to South Africa, we took it with us,
and we put 200,000 miles, it was at 210 K,
after five years, we'd put like 30 K a year
on it, 40 K a year on it.
It had one CV joint, one CV boot in five
years and 200,000 miles.
If you go on the internet, you'll see people
going, like, brand new, those things are
breaking down, got to take an engine out,
they're bla, they're terrible.
It's not, it's completely dependent.
There probably are people who have one that
have 4,000 miles on it, the engine blow up,
and you need to take the turbos out and swap
them, but it is horses, of course,
you know what, it's comparing apples to
oranges in a way.
What I will say though on that,
is that goes back and looked up to what I was
saying earlier about actual,
when it does go wrong doing it,
because they've taken the Taylor and Alex
Nelloff, taken the DV10 out of the Tuarek in
the reunion yesterday, and you guys were
asked to want to invite it.
And he was saying, to be fair,
they're pretty alright, when they do go
wrong, it is an issue, and that me is the big
thing, it's like, I don't want it to be
famously hard to do stuff on,
if it goes wrong.
I just like to eliminate that risk factor,
'cause I'm not that sort of person.
True, but you of all people have--
Of course.
You have a workshop in which to do things,
and people to help you.
But you know that I don't like it when things don't work.
I think for a lot of people,
and perhaps maybe even, this might be the
same for you Ben, is a lot of it is,
people expecting too much for what their budget is.
Agreed, I think.
If you've got eight pounds or let's say,
oh no, you've got 1,500 pounds to spend,
and you wanna buy something,
and you're gonna go out and buy a BMW.
Yeah, you've done.
You are already, you're already,
you're gonna have to accept that you are in
treacherous waters.
Obviously, it depends maybe what BMW you're
buying, you might be buying every simple four
cylinder, whatever it is, but you will have
to accept that that car is possibly not as
well maintained as if you go and buy one at
the higher end of the market.
Yeah.
So, not all the time, but many of the times,
you will get what you pay for in terms of
finding a good a well looked after the car.
Also, I think the mindset change,
to be fair, earlier on, Patrick,
social media Patrick, bought,
would he buy a 320, it's 320 D.
It's 320 D, like the one I just said,
I didn't want for 400 pounds.
Yeah.
He literally said he was like,
yeah, it might go tomorrow, it's 190,000
miles, but at the same time,
if it's 400 equivalent, it'll be 5,000 miles,
that's actually quite a good deal.
Yeah, there you go.
So, that's a good mindset to have with it.
So, yeah.
And also, I think it's less,
it's gonna be more normal,
people, less, if you're a creamer,
you're probably willing
to do this anyway, but be willing to go for
the car lower
than what you want.
If you have a 1,500 pound budget,
do
not go and look at the one series,
go and buy a little to the pole.
Yeah.
And you can get a better car down the line,
but if you spend 1,500 pound buying a car and
then spend two grand over the next six months
trying to keep it going, versus just sucking
it up and buying something cheap and easy for
a brand and never having to do anything to
it, go buy yourself something cool in a few
months time when you've got some more money
together, 'cause it's a false economy.
You will spend more keeping the shit thing going.
I did that on my Swift Sport.
Yeah.
What are you telling me?
I don't admit this.
I have managed before with that.
I bought it and I lost my money on it.
Which is fine if
you're like us.
Case and point the car behind me.
I could
have waited and got on board a good Cleo 172
exclusive, but
there was something cool to me the idea that
this one didn't
run.
It was potentially gonna be broken for spares.
There's
something nice in getting it going and
there's a story to it.
Cool, I like that.
But if you hit your daily driver,
which is supposed to be, if it's your actual
daily driver, don't do that.
Go and spend the correct money on the correct car.
Also, it gives cars a bad, it gives some cars
a really bad name.
Oh, it's lots of the words.
You'll see this in lots of manufacturers or
like owner groups and whatever else where
they have a
big following of people who are buying super
cheap ones, but you always have to remember
what that car was worth in you.
Yeah, even a three series, even if you're
going to buy a three series,
330, whatever, or even a 320,
you have to remember that was a 30,
40, 50, 60 grand car at some point.
And it gets even worse when you're getting
into Toregs and Rangeovers and Jaguars as we
all getting up towards 100,000 pounds.
It might cost £8.60 now, but the running
costs, things do get easier over time and cheaper.
Like running a Range Rover is probably
slightly cheaper than it would have been back
then, certain people figure out different
ways to fix them, easier ways to fix them,
parts get cheaper.
Yeah, that's
the perfect example.
Going by the worst 850i,
750i, M70V12 that runs like a bag of shit.
Oh, put the
correct parts on it and it works.
Yeah, no shit.
That's how it works.
If you put good parts on good cars,
they become good cars.
We've had an email from Richard Porter.
Now, we don't, we
don't converse with Richard Porter through emails.
He, we
talk about his email on the podcast and he
responds to us
1:03:15 Richard Porter's Email Response
on email.
So we still haven't responded to this one.
Sorry,
I have to find it.
Can we extend invite him as well?
Yes,
we would like to have you back on the podcast.
We'll, we'll send you a message soon.
Again, we don't send emails.
So this is how you find out.
Send this, send this in an email.
Meanwhile, we were roasting him about his
lack of speech.
So subject line.
Thanks.
Such an exclamation mark.
One quick note, he's now switched over to
email because we made fun of his handwriting.
Yes.
All right.
Yeah.
He was all went through church.
He was selling letters by Pigeon before.
He said, "Hello, Cream Meisters."
Lovely.
"I realize I never said thank you for
mentioning my book on the pod."
And you'll never have to.
Which was very rude of me.
So thank you.
Nice.
"Although I must complain in the strongest
possible terms about the riff around my
letter and in particular the suggestion that
I was giving myself a mini let's pep talk,
which was so funny, I once again almost lost
control of my car brackets this time on a
mini roundabout somewhere in Wiltshire.
It's the Scottish man and the nose farts all
over again, you bastards.
Keep up the good work.
That one was for me, but I hope you do too."
Tart Richard.
Also, he said, "P.S.
Patio furniture.
Did you have that on your name list?
We do sort of.
We have patio heater."
Yeah, I think that all comes into the same.
Not necessarily of the same family because
one of the oh heater, one of the furniture.
If there's a drop down for patio,
you sort of go in there.
I say it's similar region.
It's similar region, but it is a fresh entry technically.
patio heater would be fantastic friends with
patio furniture.
Yeah, because, well, just the namesake.
So Patrick.
Oh, I'm Patrick, too.
He's a really warm chap, a warm tack guy.
But yes, thank you very much,
Richard.
And obviously he sent us out his book.
I'll be honest, I haven't read it.
Yeah, I don't read books.
No, okay, we can't.
We can't read.
Yeah, no,
I feel like a sort of gen Z.
What audio books?
I
don't have any, I've only just started,
really.
But my
first audio book, I did start listening.
to was on that bombshell.
No, I was about to say, this sounds like a,
we are, we are, Richard Porter's marketing
agency, because that's, I listened to that
over Christmas again.
It's very good.
Although, behind the scenes of Tom,
the more marketing for Richard Porter.
We'll get into it.
See, the boring car trivia books of which I
have three, those are a nice,
easy read, because you don't need,
you don't need.
There's no ending to spoil.
It's a feature book.
It's a car.
What do you mean, there's no ending?
It's not a story, is it?
Okay.
It's just a sort of a sort of--
I wouldn't call the--
A collection.
I wouldn't call a petrol head either,
'cause it's just textured.
No, no, but what I'm saying is,
on that bombshell, you can't just go,
right, I'm gonna go in like page 400 of a pay.
Why would you do that?
Why would you do that?
We can't read that.
We can't read that.
Well, you read the end of the book first.
No, you idiot.
What I'm saying is it's not stories.
It's not like an autobiography or a biography
or a, you know, I don't need to go,
right, I have to read this from beginning to
end, whereas boring car trivia,
you open the book, you open a page and you
go,
The retention is terrible.
Well, it's, Ben's all about the retention.
I can't read.
Tune in later on for the next section.
I start, I bought the book physically and I
started to read it and I started to skip
through bits and then I realized I don't
understand what I'm reading anymore.
So I have to, I have to listen to it.
That's how you know the podcast isn't
scripted because we'll can't read it.
Will, Will, book stuff, a book at a bookstore
goes to page 300 goes, I've got no idea
what's going on in this book.
Oh, this is interesting.
You know when you read at school,
they say, right, read this book.
Yeah.
I was reading like Lord of the Rings and stuff.
I just like to skip a page.
Well, I'll just skip it and go on,
it's boring.
You might need to go get your mind checked.
Will, I've got no idea what's going on now.
But my novel is correct.
This book is awful.
This book is awful.
It's got the stories all over the place.
No, no, it's just, there'll be bits where I go on.
It is retention.
I'll read it and go on.
Will's the original point.
I need to get to the next story point.
I don't need to know what Gandalf said then.
I need to know why Gandalf said it.
No, sorry, that's very far.
Who did you say?
Gandalf said calmly.
Not correct.
But yeah, books, not for me,
but I will listen to books.
Okay.
Ben is rushing us to finish.
I think we have a few percent of the count.
I'm not rushing.
I'm just, we have one last thing and it's from Ben.
Ben has a PCN update, update us on the PCN.
What more is that?
Now, the weird thing is that I've been
informed there's been a sixth one issue and
I've never received it, so I might be going to prison.
But the fact that I have, I got,
I don't know, walks I won't then pay it.
Impressive if you do go to prison.
Anyway, it is being all canceled.
All of all of them.
I'm saying them, I don't know if they listed the podcast.
I'm saying them for saying that they,
they, they, they, they make you apply
individually to them.
I go, basically I'm saying, here's a list of
your PCNs, they're all gone.
Wow.
And I said, it doesn't matter,
I blame the engine up.
So I can't go in the zone if I wanted to.
Riddle me this, Captain.
Yeah.
Why does it, why is it only for you?
Why can't you say, right, I've got an S,
one man goes to them and says,
I've got an S2000 and it's not this.
And they go, oh, well, we've not,
we've made a mistake, but obviously we let's
update that car.
Because you can't change the type of approval
and you can't change that.
So they'll look at it.
But by then allowing you all 2001 S2000s,
I'll give the same.
No.
Why?
Because that's too much sense.
Okay, of course.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm sorry, everyone must contact individually.
All right, you're saying that's the end of the podcast.
Ben's saying that's the end of the podcast.
Well, we can change batteries,
but it's got one per se, not much more.
No, it's also half nine, let's go home.
Look, there you go.
Ben doesn't want to do the podcast anymore,
he just wants to take the money and run.
You just have to listen to my time to turn
the lights off for an hour.
So thank you very much for listening to this episode.
of the Car's Rule Everything Around Me podcast.
We'll be
back next week.
As always, goodbye, see you.
Bye now.
Have a daily.
Cut to Ben's Cam now.
